  1. Complaints and Problems with Chemistry Lectures, Labs and Tutorials.
  2. Before I talk about other crap; how about students shut the hell up when the Lecturer is lecturing. If you want to talk leave the lecture. You not only disrespect the Lecturer, but also other students who are there to listen to the Lecturer, not you and your alcoholic weekend.
  3.
  4. Lectures are exactly what to expect, a lecture on content.
  5.
  6. I had my first lab today, a makeup lab, and I did not get my Log Book till the last 15 minutes of entire 3 hour session. I was then expected to write up EVERYTHING from the last 3 hours in a 15 minute window into the Logbook. Even though I took initiative in the 2 hours and 45 minutes of writing into my own notepad, I was not allowed to cut and paste these notes into my now received Logbook in the last 15 minute window of Lab Session.
  7.
  8. I was infuriated that some of these demonstrators expected me to fill out entire 3 hour and 45 minutes worth of information into a 15 minute window when they were aware the blame laid with them not giving me a Logbook at the very start of the Lab Session that I nearly quit this epic fail university on this alone today.
  9. This was not my fault for not receiving a Logbook from the start.
  10.
  11. Tutorials ARE NOT tutorials. These are slimmed down versions of Lectures. Rarely are there actual worked solutions and explanations in tutorials for all units of study.
  12. The tutorials are just mandatory monitored homework, and nothing more.
  13. What good is it to have the rare worked solution to a problem explained in a few seconds with some mad hatter talking fast with little theory of mind, no consideration?
  14.
  15. Many of the so-called lecturers, professors, tutors do not want to actually teach. They want money, an income, but hate teaching.
  16.
  17. Let us put it into perspective; to be a teacher in NSW, outside of universities, all teachers must now have a minimum Bachelor of Education, an actual qualification to teach. They learn some psychology, and address importance of theory of mind. Yet, most university lecturers, professors and tutors do not have a a Bachelor of Education nor passion to teach and explain.
  18.
  19. Explaining indirectly means not to repeat yourself the same as before. Irritates me when I ask some to explain and they just repeat the same statement. Incompetent at teaching.
  20.
  21. Labs are sweatshop prisons with mad Demonstrators dictating a negative demeanor setting the entire lab session on course for an unpleasant environment.
  22. I do not want to be a worker in a lab for someone else. I am only wanting the qualification to then run my own lab. It will not be how they run it on this campus.
  23.
  24. Then there is the discussion forums, with my words taken out of context. This already happened once, and hence I now typically avoid these forums.
  25.
  26. I am not observing the value of service I am paying for with most of the units of study.
  27.
  28. Most of you younger students do not care for debt of value for money. I do care.
  29. If you pay a movie ticket and yet the cinema did not put on the movie you will not believe in getting value for money. Well, this principle is what I conclude for most units of study I am enrolled in.
  30.
  31. I do not go to Math lectures or tutorials anymore, since they are a waste of my time. Better off using FREE online tutorials and other uni lectures.
  32.
  33. Though I like the Chemistry Lecture, which is one of a few units of study where lectures are actually enjoyable and easy to follow along, I do not like the tutorials nor the lab sessions (based on my first and only lab session at the moment).
  34.
  35. Problems exacerbate when I am refused to drop out down from 24 credit points to 18 credit points due to progression rules of double degree (one engineering). Even though offered part time.
  36.
  37. As with most older mature age students, we prefer quality and customer service over all else.
  38. Overall, I am disappointed with lack of quality service so far at this university.
  39. I receive an annual $6000 scholarship, and this is not enough to persuade me to stay here.
  40.
  41. I made sacrifices coming to this university.
  42.
  43. Lastly, some of the dirty filthy looks and attitudes of professors and researchers on this campus is disturbing. There were times when I was still finding my way around this campus where I asked some of the front desk or random person walking by for direction and received narcissitic replies.
  44.
  45. Example, that happened last week in engineering block:
  46.
  47. Me, "hello, do you know where the lift is in this building?"
  48. Random mature male, "sorry, I do not understand you".
  49. Me, I then continue walking on around corner, since the person clearly does not understand me. Turns out where I was walking was a dead end, and hence had to come back the way I came. I then observe this random male person giving me filthy looks from afar, the exact same stance and spot he had when I departed from him earlier. He was just none stop starring at me with sheer intimidation and filth, as if to imply I had no right to talk to him nor was I welcome in this building.
  50. I then asked him, "why are you giving me filthy looks and still starring at me, considering you made it clear earlier you did not understand me?"
  51.
  52. Random mature male, "I am a work here. I am a doctor".
  53. Me, "that is a logical fallacy. You are insinuating that since you are a doctor this gives you right to mistreat others, as you are clearly not treating me how you want to be treated with those intimidating stares".
  54. Random mature age male, "I work here."
  55. Me, "that is even worse, since you have more to lose by not treating others how you want to be treated."
  56. Random mature male, "I just want to help".
  57. Me, "In what way can you help if you do not understand me?"
  58. Random mature male, "Look, I am too busy".
  59. Me, "Yet, you had spare time to stand in the same spot and constantly give intimidating stares at me".
  60. Random mature male, "*sniggers and smirks* Ptfff, well, look..."
  61. Me, "I am not interested in anything else you have to say. What is your name and position on this campus, as I will put in a complaint about you".
  62. Random mature male, "Doctor of such n such, research of such n such"
  63. Me, "Another example why the federal government wants every public and private school in Australia to have a second mandatory subject, 'how to socialize and interact with other human beings'".
  64.
  65. I would say, about one in three staff and workers at this university are rude, narcissistic and condescending.
  66. It does not matter what your qualifications or spent years gets you, this never gives you right to mistreat others.
  67. I do not care for your bad day, this does not give you right to go out of your way to try and make my day bad.
  68. Oh, you had a bad day. Woopy doo. Oh, you lost your mother to an illness. No right to mistreat others. Oh, your girlfriend or husband cheated on you. I do not care, do not take it out on me. Oh, you could not meet your quota to raise more funds for your research patent in super fluids. Do not take it out on me.
  69.
  70. If you are unable to treat others how you want to be treated, then stay at home and lock yourself up.
  71.
  72. My sentiment and disgust is common with EVERY SINGLE MATURE AGE STUDENT I HAVE MET ON THIS CAMPUS SO FAR.
  73. I had one friend who has glowing academic background dropping out of all but one unit of study, because he did not observe the service he was paying for. Just like myself, not observing the service.
  74.
  75. Self teaching myself IS NOT A SERVICE I PAY FOR. I do this regardless. Paying over $9000 per year, regardless if scholarship, to self teach myself and then be tested on this knowledge is not value.
  76.
  77. I only ask, as with other mature age students, we get "teaching". This means, explanations, worked examples, that is equal or more than what to expect for assignments and exams. Lecturing and reading out of a textbook is not teaching, that I can do myself.
  78.
  79. Most tutors are far worse than others, as most are just wanting pocket money. They sit on their a$$ and do little. No explanations. No worked examples. Hand you a piece of paper and then say, "do the questions". They then ask and seemed shocked, "oh why are you not doing anything?"
  80.
  81. Want to know why I do the chemistry tutorials? Because much of the content I already know, and is just a refresher for me. However, if I did not have already acquired knowledge I would had dropped Chemistry by now, simply because the tutorials are NOT tutorials. More like a reading room.
