- [16:21] <Kilarra> ~~~Chapter 2: Children of the Void~~~
- [16:21] <Kilarra> \Part 4: Zincher's Camp/
- [16:21] <Kilarra> -Session 23-
- [16:24] <Kilarra> Zincher's camp is located around a pair of collapsed buildings southwest of the fallen star's impact crater along the main path that follows the ridge of the island. On the outskirts, Samaritha calls for the group to stop. "Alright, are you sure you just want to go to the crater on your own and not join us here?"
- [16:27] <Kilarra> The cyphermage seems eager to get itno the relative safety of Zincher's camp.
- [16:27] * Aluthyra nods. "Yes. We have other business to attend to." She frowns, looking between Samaritha and the Cyphermage. "Be careful around Zincher."
- [16:27] * Kilarra spits off to the side of the path. "No thanks. We might pop in after we check the crater to make sure you're okay, but I've got no interest in palling it up with Zincher."
- [16:28] <Kilarra> Kjell nods, "Aye, he had some vandals attempt to sabotage our ship before we could even get here."
- [16:29] <@Aluthyra> Tognik sighs. "Hopefully we'll get a chance at more skymetal, since Zincher's got most of it..."
- [16:32] * Kilarra shrugs. She could care less about the skymetal. She wanted to deal with the stardropping drow and the undead spawning beasties. She was fairly convinced one was related to or caused by the other.
- [16:34] <Kilarra> Samaritha nods, "Alright. Good luck in your mission." She cast a protective enchantment on herself and the othercypher as a precaution for the rest of the short trip just in case. Samaritha points due east, "The crater should be right that way, just be careful of the terrain."
- [16:34] * Aluthyra waves to Samaritha and turns to Kilarra and the others. "Shall we continue, then?"
- [16:35] <Kilarra> Samaritha's point indicates the vast section of scorched, flattened forest surrounding the impact site. Moving over it would be slow goign except for the most nimble of folks, which probably just meant Aluthyra.
- [16:37] * Aluthyra raises an eyebrow as she looks over the terrain. "Kilarra, do you have any spells in your repertoire that may help you and the others traverse that, or do you not?"
- [16:39] * Kilarra nods, "Let's get a move on. The drow wouldn't be out during the day, but considering this was their doing, they probably left some sign here." She looks to Aluthyra, "Afraid I didn't think to have one prepared. I was more concerned about having a contingency against those... things."
- [16:40] * Aluthyra nods and starts to move in the direction of the crater. "Understandable, just be careful."
- [16:41] <@Aluthyra> Tognik follows behind Aluthyra, taking out his curing wand. Just in case.
- [16:43] <Kilarra> Kjell looksto Aluthyra, "Since you're the most nimble, I suggest you lead the way this time so as to react more quickly to anything that comes at us."
- [16:43] * Kilarra smirks, seeing an opportunity to compliment the woman, "Not to mention the fact that your bow seems to be their greatest weakness."
- [16:46] * Aluthyra turns and gives Kilarra a small smile. "Thank you, Kilarra." Readying her bow, she takes the lead, keeping an eye out for any hostile creatures as she moves.
- [16:47] * Kilarra slips her whip out. On terrain like this, tripping would be easy.
- [16:48] <Kilarra> Kjell draws his sword and keeps his right arm limber, pulling his sleeve up a little to make his Varisian Tattoo visible.
- [16:55] <Kilarra> The only immediate signs of life near the crater are the turkey vultures circling overhead. The crater itself is a massive, blasted hole, but from their approach, the party can't seem to see any remnants of the fallen star itself.
- [16:56] <@Aluthyra> Tognik double checks for any star remnants, looking over the crater carefully.
- [16:58] * Kilarra looks around, "Alright, how long we gonna spend looking?"
- [17:00] * Aluthyra hmmms. "Perhaps around an hour? We should be thorough so that we do not miss anything."
- [17:01] * Kilarra nods, "Alright, let's get to it."
- [17:03] <Kilarra> In their search of the crater, the party doesn't manage to find even a scrap of skymetal remaining. Aluthyra however, finds a pair of drow corpses. Like the bodies back in Witchlight, their bottom jaws are missing. As well, their dark skin looks a bit blotchy; even filtered sunlight had been bad for their flesh.
- [17:05] * Aluthyra frowns, looking to the others. "Drow corpses. It looks as if they were also affected by the creatures..." She shakes her head, keeping her bow out as she looks around the bodies-- at a safe distance, were they to reanimate-- for tracks.
- [17:06] * Kilarra makes her way over to Aluthyra with her whip out. She would let Aluthyra search, but had every intention of dusting the two zombies as soon as was convenient.
- [17:08] <Kilarra> With the severe damage to the terrain, it's hard to tell blast points from places where parts of the meteor might have been dragged off, and no discernable footprints.
- [17:09] * Aluthyra sighs, keeping her eyes on the two corpses. "I cannot find any tracks. Can any of you see anything?"
- [17:09] <@Aluthyra> Tognik shrugs, walking over to take a look.
- [17:11] <Kilarra> Tognik fares no better
- [17:11] <Kilarra> Kjell rejoins them, not having much in the way of tracking skills but being ready to fend off the corpses if they stood up.
- [17:19] * Aluthyra aims her bow at the corpses, looking towards her companions, "I am going to let loose my arrows. You are all ready, if they are not truly dead?"
- [17:19] <@Aluthyra> Tognik nods.
- [17:19] * Kilarra nods, grasping her holy symbol and holding out her whipping arm.
- [17:19] <Kilarra> Kjell steps a bit close and raises his sword.
- [17:20] * Aluthyra fires a single arrow at each of the corpses.
- [17:21] <Kilarra> The corpses flail and shudder as they are struck, both immediately standing up.
- [17:22] * Kilarra steps forward and unleashes a burst of positive energy around herself, engulfing the two corpses
- [17:22] <Kilarra> Both of the undead disintegrate
- [17:23] * Aluthyra nods to Kilarra. "Good work."
- [17:25] * Aluthyra moves closer, examining the area around the corpses.
- [17:26] * Kilarra kicks the dust piles, "I'll say it again, i -hate- zombies."
- [17:28] <Kilarra> Kjell shrugs, "I can't think of any decent person who doesn't."
- [17:32] * Kilarra huffs and turns away from the dustpiles. "Let's just go."
- [17:34] <@Aluthyra> Tognik huffs too! Where is all the skymetal!?
- [17:34] * Aluthyra shrugs, seeing as there was nothing more to find at the crater. "And where would you suggest we go to next?"
- [17:36] * Kilarra kicks at some rubble with a hoof, "I don't know, but at least those drow corpses tell us they were here. Although it looks like those beasties weren't their doing, or at least not deliberately, considering they got attacked too."
- [17:39] <@Aluthyra> Tognik looks at the map again, looking for any landmarks of note that they have not visited.
- [17:39] <Kilarra> Aside from Zincher's camp, there's one more lighthouse at the southern-most tip of the island
- [17:41] <@Aluthyra> Tognik holds out the map for the others to see. "Unless you want to go to Zincher's next, the lighthouse is all we have on this map."
- [17:45] * Aluthyra frowns. "Then I suggest the lighthouse."
- [17:49] * Kilarra nods, "We can check in on Zincher after and make sure Sam's okay, but I got no interest in getting chummy with him."
- [17:51] * Aluthyra nods, taking a moment to glance over the map before heading in the direction of the lighthouse.
- [17:53] <@Aluthyra> Tognik chuckles, following after Aluthyra. "Maybe we can stop by Zincher's for some skymetal after."
- [17:56] <Kilarra> According to the map, they would have to head through the brush to get to the southeastern lighthouse without crossing through Zincher's camp.
- [17:57] * Aluthyra motions for the others to follow her again as she leads. "I will keep point. Be careful as we move."
- [17:57] <Kilarra> Kjell falls in behind Aluthyra
- [17:57] * Aluthyra takes another potion from her backpack before leaving, downing it.
- [17:58] * Kilarra stands beside Kjell, keeping her whip slack.
- [18:04] <Kilarra> The trip through the brush is mercifully quiet. Presumably the party's previous efforts had put a dent in the Akata population, at least for now. When almost at the southeastern lighthouse, the group comes across another small impact crater
- [18:05] <@Aluthyra> Tognik grins, immediately scanning the area for any sign of skymetal.
- [18:07] <Kilarra> Tog doesn't find anything
- [18:09] <@Aluthyra> Tognik throws up his arms in exasperation as he looks to his companions. "Do any of you see anything?"
- [18:09] * Aluthyra looks around upon the request.
- [18:10] <Kilarra> Aluthyra can't find anything either
- [18:10] * Aluthyra shakes her head. "I cannot. I apologize Tognik."
- [18:11] * Kilarra taps a hoof impatiently, not really caring about the skymetal.
- [18:12] <@Aluthyra> Tognik sighs and motions for Aluthyra to continue
- [18:13] * Aluthyra smirks at Kilarra and continues towards the lighthouse. "Patience."
- [18:13] * Kilarra doesn't have any and huffs as she moves on.
- [18:15] <Kilarra> Once the group is south of Zincher's camp, they can hop back onto the path and continue to the Lighthouse a bit quicker. However, several hours have passed in their trek through the wilderness. It's mid-afternoon by the time they reach the LIghthouse.
- [18:17] * Aluthyra looks around towards the lighthouse for anything that may note whether it is in use or not as she approaches.
- [18:20] <Kilarra> Looking around the base of the tower, Aluthrya can spot a skeleton tangled in the undergrowth on the southern side of the tower. The cliffside has eroded dangerously, but the body has not fallen, and there's something glowing faintly.
- [18:20] * Kilarra keeps close to Aluthyra for support if needed
- [18:20] <Kilarra> Kjell stays close to the Lighthouse entrance in case anything was going to come from inside.
- [18:21] * Aluthyra approaches the body slowly and carefully, getting a closer look at the glowing object.
- [18:21] <@Aluthyra> Tognik stays near Kjell to support him if needed.
- [18:23] <Kilarra> Aluthyra could probably cartwheel along the cliff edge with how dexterous she was, but walking normal is sufficient for her to reach the body, which has a sword clutched in its hand, the source of the glow. The body is dressed in rusted chainmail, and has a small pouch on one side of his belt.
- [18:25] <Kilarra> the pouch is rotten, and Aluthya may have to cup it from below to prevent it from spilling
- [18:25] * Aluthyra has dealt with quite a few undead in the past days, and as such, keeps her bow out as she reaches to collect the sword and pouch.
- [18:26] <Kilarra> The skeleton remains motionless
- [18:27] * Aluthyra takes the sword, slinging her bow back over her shoulder as she reaches out to cup the pouch with her other hand. After, she returns to the others, carefully walking back.
- [18:28] <Kilarra> Kjell eyes the sword curiously as ALuthyra returns, "What have we here?" He casts detect magic on it.
- [18:28] * Aluthyra holds out the sword for Kjell to examine.
- [18:28] * Kilarra glances at the pouch, "Anything left in it?"
- [18:28] <Kilarra> The pouch contains 34 Gold pieces, 13 Platinum Pieces, and a single Garnet.
- [18:29] * Aluthyra nods, handing the pouch over to Kilarra.
- [18:29] * Kilarra flicks through the coins, "I've got plenty of coin left, either of you short?" She looks at the gem and offers it to Tognik, "Maybe you can figure how much this is worth."
- [18:31] <Kilarra> Kjell smiles, "Very nice. This sword is composed of Cold Iron, and has a minor magical enhancement on it." He glances to his sword, "No I'm not thinking about replacing you, but having a supplement that's effective against demons would be useful." ... "Alright, I'll buy you some silversheen oil next time we're in town then."
- [18:31] <@Aluthyra> Tognik nods, taking the gem and looking at it to estimate its worth.
- [18:31] <Kilarra> Tognik figures a garnet that size could go for 250 gold pieces.
- [18:32] * Aluthyra smiles as he pockets the garnet. "About 250 gold. We can divide it up once we return to town."
- [18:32] <Kilarra> Kjell holds out a hand, "That blade is of the same make as Bane here, so I should be more than capable of wielding it against those who are vulnerable to it."
- [18:33] * Aluthyra hands the blade to Kjell. "I have no use of it myself."
- [18:34] <Kilarra> Kjell nods and slips the blade into his belt, making a note to get a new sheath for it upon their return to Riddleport. The slight glow would be much more noticeable at night, but may also be useful in dark places.
