- Read the student lounge paragraph at the bottom of p. 116. Is this a good description?
- How many times does the writer use the word “nice”?
- Add details and descriptive words to make the paragraph better.
- During last month’s college tour, I was very impressed with the student lounge at the dorm. The lounge was pretty big. In the center, there were some nice couches. To the left, there was a pool table. The lounge had a nice kitchen. There was a TV and a nice study area. The student lounge was really nice.
- (boring - it doesn’t give me a good idea of what it looks like if I can’t also see the picture)
- During last month’s college tour, I was very impressed with the student lounge at the dorm. The lounge was quite spacious. It was very easy to move around and many students can use it without being too crowded. In the center, there were some comfortable couches. They looked luxurious and modern and were arranged around a table. To the left, there was a pool table. It was bright and clean. In the corner behind the pool table, the lounge had a convenient modern kitchen. Along the back wall, to the right of a dining table, there was a large new TV and a wide and comfortable study area. It wasn’t too bright, which makes it easier to study. The student lounge was really beautiful and I look forward to using it.

- Homework: Write a similar descriptive paragraph about a room in your house. Use details and space ordering so that someone who reads it can easily “see” the room in their mind.
- (On Monday another student will read your description and try to draw a picture of the room.)
