  1. (When a train arrives at a subway station, it brings a gust of wind because it pushes the
  2. air. I have to use that as a sign.)
  3. This was not a definite answer.
  4. If he was wrong and messed up his timing, he could fall down in front of the train.
  5. In fact, he was not sure he would be fine even if he did land perfectly on the roof of the
  6. train.
  7. He had no choice but to entrust his life in something he knew almost nothing about. The
  8. overwhelming pressure of that fact made him want to roll over and give up right then and
  9. there. He had no safer plan and the situation would only grow worse as he tried to search
  10. for one.
  11. He heard a low rumbling.
  12. His throat grew dry.
  13. He waited one, two, three seconds.
  14. And then it came in an instant.
  15. Something filled his vision. A clunking roar struck his ears a moment later. He was too
  16. late. And by the time he realized that, the five-car train had already disappeared into the
  17. other tunnel. If he had dropped down that time, his body would have slammed into the
  18. track.
  19. An unpleasant sweat spread across his entire back.
  20. He could tell his breathing was gradually growing erratic.
  21. “…”
  22. (I know the timing now. To a certain extent. It comes five seconds after hearing the wind.
  23. After five seconds, the train passes by. If I throw myself down with that timing, I should
  24. land on the train’s roof.)
  25. Fortunately, there was not a long gap between trains.
  26. After a few minutes, the next train came.
  27. He waited.
  28. And this time…
  29. Just as the train arrived, Kamijou Touma forcefully jumped down from the duct.
  30. A metallic thud exploded out.
  31. Kamijou had safely fallen on the roof, but a tremendous force caused his body to spin like
  32. a top the instant his body touched it. Finally, his hip struck a protrusion similar to an
  33. external air conditioner. He cried out as intense pain ran up his spine and he reached out
  34. to grab onto the protrusions of the train’s roof in a desperate attempt to not slide off.
  35. The five-car train instantly entered the tunnel.
  36. “Gh… Pant pant!!”
  37. He caught his breath and somehow put up with the pain as he lay on his back.
