cue kid running through the streets, chased by a fierce wyvern

kid: shit shit fuck fuck no no no NO PLEASE
*gets taken by wyvern*
*wyvern flies off into the distance*

people:
people: well he's probably dead

close in to wyvern and kid flying over mountains
kid still screaming

wyvern lands just above the base of a mountain
wyvern: hey.
wyvern: child.
wyvern: child, please don't run away, okay? i'm not going to kill you. i'm not going to eat you or grind up your bones or whatever you think i do.
wyvern: you've suffered enough, haven't you?

kid:
kid: ...
kid: i... why... why??
wyvern: i'm so sorry for scaring you like that. but it was necessary.
wyvern: people like to believe that i come down to their towns to eat their unwanted children. but i don't. i fly to places to take children away from terrible places, towns that don't want them, and i do my best to care for those children.
kid: ...
wyvern: i won't hurt you.
wyvern: ah!
opal: i forgot to introduce myself. my name is Opaline, but you can call me Opal if you want.
opal: and... your name is...?
kid: i-i... uh...
opal: it doesn't have to be a name your parents gave you, if you're worried about that. it is YOUR name, after all.

(another kid comes running from the darkness and hugs the kid)

adeline: wh-
kid: it's you!
opal: that's their name?
kid: yes!! you don't remember? i told you all about her!
opal: oh! what a stroke of luck! adeline, your friend joy is here.
adeline: JOY?? i thought you were-
joy: so did i! but opal's been a really great mom to me, adeline.
joy: you'll love her.
