- Far off, miles beyond the outer borders of the Mushroom Kingdom lies one of the Mushroom World's best-kept secrets; the Paleta Kingdom. Paleta is really just a "Kingdom" in name only, however. Once ruled entirely by Princess Parsley, it's since been divided into multiple sectors, each with its own would-be ruler. While things have been mostly peaceful among the colorful divisions of the region, the leaders have gotten increasingly overzealous as of late, which could turn this peaceful pallette into a color catastrophe with the introduction of the "Dark Stars."
- Yes, the Dark Stars. Nobody is sure where they came from, or what created them, but they were banished away by the Star Spirits long ago for good reason. By exploiting the darkness in one's heart, they can bring out ample amounts of awesome power, but at a price. It was foretold by the spirits that if the Dark Stars were ever to be released, the Mushroom Planet would be swallowed whole by countless years of unending darkness. Thankfully, that'll probably never happen...right? Right?
- You, the players, find yourself down on your luck, and are tasked with travelling a very long way to the Parsley Kingdom to safely deliver a shipment of cargo to the princess, a job that'll help you pay off a nearly absurd debt you now owe due to an ambiguous noodle incident. All she's left you with is a note, telling you to drop it off by her Royal Fountain by 6 PM.
- Paleta is a lot like the Mushroom Kingdom, but with some key differences. Humans (or at least, creatures who look like humans) are slightly more prominent here, and some very obscure species unseen anywhere else freely prance along the lands.
- The Paleta Kingdom is divided into 6 regions-

- Crosstown: A single long stretch of a town, it extends from the shores of the Paleta beaches to the dead center of the region. It's a very common stopping point for ships and international trade, making it the main economic hotspot for all the surrounding kingdoms. It's incredibly well-guarded, thanks to the efforts of the military task force known as Cross Keepers. The Cross Keepers are a mostly independent power born from the councils of all sides of the region, with the single goal of enforcing peace and justice to the beating heart of Paleta, and to keep Crosstown a completely neutral ground. To say they're valuable to the prosperity of the mostly divided region is an understatement.

- The Parsley Kingdom: Formerly the main capital of Paleta, it's ruled over by its namesake, Princess Parsley. The original kingdom is inhabited by a well-integrated community of humans, Bob-ombs, Koopas, Toads, and various other creatures. It's home to a well-established magic school, one of the best in the world, so it attracts magicians from all around the world. It's not quite the power it once was though, due to the complete splitting of the Paleta Kingdom.
- Parsley herself is known for being a kind ruler, though not a very strong-willed one, meaning she's easily pushed around. This has earned her the deragatory title of "Pushover Parsley" by many. For a princess, she's surprisingly old, rumored to be around her late 30s, early 40s.

- S'cream Hills: Located on the very north end of Paleta, it's easily the biggest kingdom in the lands, which would be nice if most of it wasn't such a desolate winter blunderland. While traversing through it is quite dangerous, there are still plenty of settlements around, mostly consisting of penguinfolk and other creatures adapted to the cold. Long ago, it was once the home of a powerful aristocratic human family, from their lavish palace at the top of the highest mountain. But one day, out of nowhere, the family completely disappeared for unknown reasons. 50 years later, the hills were taken over by the totalitarian tyrannosaurus Rucktor Rex. Formerly a monarch for a far-off desert kingdom, he was overthrown for his corruption, and now seeks to not only rule over the S'cream hills with an iron claw, but to uncover the secrets left by the long-forgotten human aristocratic family. And by "secrets" I really just mean treasure.

- Stone River Kingdom: Formerly just known as the River Forest, it was once a lush place populated by punies and plants as far as the eye could see. But times change, and now it houses the location of the Stone River Kingdom, a massive collection of cities made entirely of pure rock. Stone buildings, stone statues, you're doomed to be stuck between a rock and a hard place as soon as you step in. This sudden expansion of stone is thanks to the new ruler of the region, Princess Rockna. Not much is known about her apart from the fact that she's a total spoiled brat, being the human successor to an expansive family of Whomps and Thwomps. Her royal guard is known for being one of the toughest in the lands, and has come under constant clashes with the forest-dwelling side of the kingdom. Lately the punies have found clever ways to drive off Rockna's expansion, but that won't stop her anytime soon...

- Weeping Way: You know you're on the way to the 'Way once the sky goes dark, your blood starts to shiver, and you feel an overwhelming desire to call your mommy. It's said the weeping way was home to a disasterous event hundreds of years ago, and it's been a popular gathering place for spooks and creeps ever since. Lying in the heart of the shivering forests and haunted hills is the ever infamous Phantasmansion. While the outside of this creepy house may look big enough, on the inside it's nearly the size of an entire city! It houses an extensive colony of upper class undead, among other shadowy creeps. But perhaps the shadiest indvividual involved is Penn Numbra, the ringleader of the Ills 'n' Chills circus. For a troupe of circus freaks, they seem to have quite the stronghold on the spectral people. Who knows what they plot in the middle of their carnival of darkness?

- Bubblini Canyon: The remains of a long-since sumberged ancient city, its legacy is carried on by the water-breathing denizens of the Paleta Kingdom. Being an entirely underwater town, it takes quite a bit of specialization for a land-dweller to even hope taking in its neo-oriental sights. Its deemed ruler, the wise sage and founder of Fugu-Fu, Sashi Miwa, recently passed away of old age and is due to be replaced by a supposed relative of his. His successor, Gunkan Miwa, seems to be a relatively nice fish on the outside, but other say he's a poisonous blowhard on the inside.
