[01:45] Bayezid Gazi exclaims, "HEY!"
[01:45] Bayezid Gazi exclaims, "STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING!"
[01:45] Nightingale asks, "These are my chickens?"
[01:46] Bayezid Gazi exclaims, "These belong to the people of Nilhirra. You are masked. Identify yourself!"
[01:47] Nightingale says, "I am the one who built these coops and care for the chickens. At least when I can, considering I've been indisposed for a while."
[01:48] Nightingale asks, "Are you trying to tell me Fortune has taken ownership of the chickens I've been raising for years?"
[01:48] Bayezid Gazi exclaims, "Your name, and relationship to the Nilhirran people. Otherwise, I will report you to the authorities!"
[01:50] The masked one sighs before taking off the plague doctor's mask. Hard to make it seem you're dead when people won't let you care for your own farm.

"Kateto Espero. Adoptive child of Tate Briar. I have a room at the orphanage there and lived here half my life."

[01:51] Kateto Espero says, "This one is actually named after myself."
[01:56] What was once a fiercely devoted nonmagus razuka intent on defending the farm had swiftly disarmed themselves.
"Ah... I see."
Funny enough, he had nothing to actually hold his one against a magus threat.

"My apologies. There aren't many magi characters that happen across the isle any more. Recently, my clan immigrated out here, and I've found myself tasked with rebuilding what was lost with the recent Demon attack." Their posture softened up. Their razukan ears lowering to insinuate some sort of... Shame? Embarassment. That much was obvious.

"In any case, I've been tending to the farm. With Princess Ala's word, I took the time to take care of the chickens. Meaning, I have eggs I owe you. I was under the presumption you were a thief, like the Varesian that passed through here some time ago.

Again, I apologize... Perhaps, we can start over.

Kateto Espero - Adopted child of Tate Briar, I am Bayezid Gazi, Greenthumb of the Gazi Clan. Please, excuse me while I procure your belongings."

[02:02] As the cat continued to care for the chickens, feeding them seeds and tending to the newborn chicks to replace the ones which had died in the cat's absence. A smile was given to the Razuka, bowing with their hand to their heart.

"Aye, aye, I can understand that much. Didn't expect anyone to be living out here with how little Nilhirra is travelled nowadays. If you'd believe it, there was a point where some called it the unofficial capital of Fortune."

A chuckle escaped their lips, yet their eyes betrayed some nostalgic longing. Now it was practically a ghost town.

"Oh those were the days. Then again, this was before the invasion, so it'll always seem pleasant." Yet after this, at the rat's sense of shame and offer for eggs, the cat shook their head.

"No, no, you've been caring for these chickens in my absence. Thank you very much, Bayezid. Keep the eggs, I've got plenty don't worry.

I've just been somewhat...let's just say there's a reason I wear a mask everywhere now. Not a fugitive or anything like that, but I recently became free enough to tend to my farm once more. Some people might want me dead for that.

I'll go get some wood to maintain the coops as well. Seem like the elements have done a number on them."

[02:04] Bayezid Gazi says, "Ah, thank you. I'll do my best with what I have. While you're away -- if I manage to procure the resources, perhaps I can maintain the coops as well. It's a nightmare dealing with resparking the economy here at least."
[02:04] Bayezid Gazi asks, "Perhaps, you can give me an idea with an critique on my efforts thus far at the marketplace?"
[02:05] Kateto Espero says, "Ah, no worries. You can shift your focus on resparking the economy here, since I'm back to being able to tend to here."
[02:05] Kateto Espero says, "I'm not an economist though, but I'll try."
[02:05] Bayezid Gazi says, "It looked like it was entirely abandoned..."
[02:06] Bayezid Gazi says, "So, I figured I'd start up, after a strongly worded letter concerning the taxes to the official appointed over the isle."
[02:06] Bayezid Gazi says, "So, I sell cheap ale, and the weeds I clean up around the isle."
[02:06] Kateto Espero says, "It essentially was abandoned. Much of Fortune has seen better days, and slowly people have emigrated to the mainland for either practical or political reasoning."
[02:07] Bayezid Gazi says, "Occasionally, my brothers bring in fae powder... I personally have my own secret on -producing- the stuff. So, I'm able to get away with selling it cheap."
[02:07] Bayezid Gazi says, "Maybe that'll bring in the alchemic crowd, or traders."
[02:08] Kateto Espero says, "The main problem isn't what you're selling, but rather the fact no one knows where it is."
[02:08] Bayezid Gazi says, "Perhaps... Though, it only gives me more time to build up supply."
[02:08] Bayezid Gazi says, "I plan on having a huge festival in time..."
[02:08] Kateto Espero says, "I think many people might not even know Nilhirra exists in the first place. Let alone that there are people active on it."
[02:08] Kateto Espero exclaims, "Now THAT is a good idea!"
[02:08] Bayezid Gazi says, "A means to comemorate the fallen, and declare to the world that the Gazi clan has taken refuge here..."
[02:08] Kateto Espero says, "Events like that are bound to get people curious."
[02:08] Bayezid Gazi says, "A... 'Great Gazi Festival' of sorts..."
[02:08] Bayezid Gazi says, "Maybe some... Mana ball, or card games..."
[02:08] Kateto Espero says, "Aye, what people need to want to live somewhere is a good community and a purpose."
[02:09] Kateto Espero says, "Or the opposite in the case of hermits like me."
[02:09] Bayezid Gazi says, "Ah. I'll admit. I don't know what most magi find purpose in... Usually, they all seem like battle-thirsty wanderers..."
[02:09] Bayezid Gazi says, "No offense."
[02:09] Kateto Espero says, "They find purpose in being blood-thirsty wanderers. Trust me, there's a reason I live in the middle of the woods."
[02:10] Kateto Espero says, "Got a bit more of a purpose recently, and luckily it's not a bloodthirsty one."
[02:10] Bayezid Gazi says, "Hm? Do tell. I'm curious."
[02:12] The cat lifts up their half-cloak embroidered with the sigils of Mementos.

"Got some proper work to help people. And on topics I myself love to study. Honestly the threat of death didn't even have to be utilized to get me to agree to this."

[02:17] Bayezid... Did not recognize the sigils of Momentos beyond the name alone. Thus, he only rose a brow, presuming it only to be a rogue guild of magi abroad Meranthean mainland.

"Huh, I-uh... am not confident as to what that is, nor what it represents, but I suppose if it drives you forward... Despite threatening your life… Then, whatever 'floats your boat'." The razuka offered a smile, as awkward as it felt.

"I've been working on breaking the magus veil for some time now. I've done it once, before consuming a 'Rebirth Potion' and starting all over again. Figured, if I could accomplish it once by accident, then with practice and effort, I could realize a theory of mine. Being a magi yourself, perhaps I could ask you some questions to build on that theory.

Would you happen to have some time to spare?" He paused for a moment, but not long enough for an actual answer to that question. Instead, he simply pressed on with the first of his fielded questions.

"Is it safe to presume, that you -- a magi, tend to rely on... One, maaaaybe two casting styles? Then, on top of that, can it safely be presumed that your primary casting style would be... Symbolic Casting?" He dotted a finger in their direction, before pressing onward.

"--and if another, then perhaps... It'd be runecasting. You seem like you could be the runecasting type. As to the methodology, I'm uncertain."

[02:25] A sigh of realization set upon the feline when they realized just how vague they were about their affiliations.

"It was not Mementos who threatened my life, but in the situation I was in, it was either this or death. Evidently, I chose the option where I could both live on, and work towards the goals of those who are caring for me now. Luckily those goals align with my own." They had garnered a fairly bad habit of being vague as all Hel under the guise of Nightingale. It was fun on a theatric level, but on a practical level quite inefficient.

"Ah, I suppose not everyone is lucky enough to have that awaken naturally. I was merely a street cat for much of my life before my magic awoke. And even then, having to work at it to improve both myself and my circuitry was a difficult task."

Yet as the rat asked if they have time to spare, Kateto hesitated for a moment, thinking upon the letter they just recieved before nodding towards the rat.

"I may need to respond to this letter, but I have time." They spoke, already beginning to write upon a piece of paper from the courier crow which had delivered their letter before. Handing more shinies to the bird as it happily cawed.

"You are quite right, yes. An observant one you are I will say." They spoke with a chuckle. There was potential in this one. "I cast via the Heart and Mind. Symbolic casting and Runecasting. Whilst the former comes naturally to many magi, the latter does have a methodology which may be quite understandable to one who seems more scholarly minded."

[02:27] Kateto Espero says, "Alright, that should be good. I can answer whatever questions you have."
[02:28] Bayezid Gazi says, "Ah, well -- Given that symbollic is simply you taking upon your mana and Willing it to your bidding..."
[02:28] Bayezid Gazi asks, "Can you demonstrate the casting of a spell through your runecasting?"
[02:29] Kateto Espero says, "Aye, aye, I'll explain the process as well, since you seem rather well read upon the subject of magic already."
[02:29] Bayezid Gazi says, "I've been practicing but I believe I need more work... And would like to see if perhaps, I could have some assistance in my own studies."
[02:30] Kateto Espero says, "I've merely worked with runes most my life, so it came naturally to me, but it is fairly easy to study once you understand it."
[02:42] As the felinae spoke, they closed their eyes for a moment as lines of azure runes would appear before them. Hands moving on their own as they pulled specific symbols and placed them into a system before them. Like placing building blocks together, or more accurately, formulating a sentence.

They were of Gobbish origin, strangely enough. Unusual for one who wasn't a goblin themself, yet evidently they've held experience with the culture enough to know this runic language.

"The crux of Runecasting is not only knowing how to will your mana to your bidding, but also why it works. What steps are taken in each spell before it is cast. With that understanding comes not only power, but versatility."

The system finally came together. A circle of runes formed like a set of instructions. Their movements were somewhat slow, as if they could do this faster, but wished to slow down so the rat could understand.

And with a singular tap, the runes shined as mana course through them one step at a time. Yet, the entire process happening in less than half a second. And from that system, the cat's dainty hands pulled a Sinka from the center. Twirling it in their hands as the runes faded.

"Symbolic magic holds limitations. There is only so much you can do with a subconscious understanding of your own mana. With Runecasting, you can emulate the effects of other magics, however, due to the fact you can break down how those spells work and recreate them with the aid of runes."

[02:55] Kateto Espero says, "Need to bring my letterbook around more..."
[03:09] Bayezid looked on with avid curiosity -- another runecaster before him. They took the time to explain how it worked, to which Bayezid eagerly piped up:
"Ah, yes. I recall in Christopher Garijn's writings, that one had to understand the fundamentals of the 'big eight'. Then, knowing each step. I did not know there was an aspect as to -why- it worked however, simply that you had to know every step. Unless... Those concepts are... One and the same?" He wasn't totally sure on this matter.

The end-result was not unlike his own attempts -- a mana disc with runic symbols inscribed upon it.
His eyes squinted, attempting to ascertain to himself that he recognized the characters.

"Nature Magic... Creating... Huh, I don't think I've seen these symbols before." He claimed, referring to the last three. They weren't in his beginner's book. Surely, this was a master-at-work? Or hehad taken it upon himself to discover different characters in this esoteric, divine language.

What did catch Bayezid entirely by surprise was... The conjuration of raw sinka. Surely, this was beyond what he had read and observed thus far. Could only dare to test the very laws of reality through raw creation using runecasting? Had it truly bore no limits?

"I read that it's offering your own mana into a language to program into the world itself. I've hardly had the opportunity to see it demonstrated so effectively many times... Perhaps, I can try!"

Surely, they were soon to busy themselves. But, Bayezid was determined to put in the effort regardless. Hands cast out, fingers splayed and a total emulation of the felinae's efforts played out.

A subtle ooze of translucent sapphire sheathed his silhouette, and from the discharge he rubbed at imaginary surfaces before him -- an effort to 'paint' a canvas of his mana upon the air itself.
All of which, before his fingers glided upon it, each one seemingly independent from the other. He had been practicing this for a while now, intent on performing the -one- magus spell he had started to master under his belt:
[Ether] [Shield] [Hand] [Deflect]
The very conjurations levitating before his fingertips now shined sapphire -- a variant of the Energy Shield spell, contained to only his hands for a pair of hand-shields.
"Ah, I see - I see! I've been trying to make sure I had it figured out. The real challenge comes with attempting to push from dualcasting, to tricasting, and then my theorized quadracasting technique.

I believe that a single casting technique only manifests a spell at a meager portion of its potential profiency. So, I deduce if I could runecast and symbolically cast the same spell, I should be able to cast it twicefold upon itself, greatly amplifying its effectiveness despite lacking the initial power behind it. Something like... Multiplying a spell.

Have you ever tried 'dualcasting' before?" He asked, still dual-wielding his hand-shield technique at-the-ready.

[03:30] A gentle smile came from the feline, nodding along to the rat's understanding.

"Chris is my father, funnily enough. Much of my runecasting comes from what I've seen from him, however, my runecasting differs in theory. The steps are all that is required, however I prefer an understanding as to why. Know the structure and how the mana programs the world, because those very same processes can be applied to a broader variety of spells."

They were not exactly one and the same exactly, but the cat merely aspired for a deeper understanding of the processes of the spells which they cast. The presets were a product of this. Loading in a variety of variables from a spot within their mind to garner utmost precision from a premade blueprint.

Another nod was given alongside a chuckle. Relaxing their body as the runic symbols around them would fade from the world once their Runecasting was finished.

"They're of Gobbish origin. Not many understand them given the obscurity of the language, but they're something I've worked in a bit." The sinka in their hand was dropped to the floor. The crimson flower disintegrating into dust once mana was no longer there to sustain it.

There were limitations to creation, yet it merely required more effort to make such a thing last, rather than the mere party trick Kateto had used as an example. To create something stable with mana alone wasn't entirely impossible, but often it was more used to congeal materials into a suitable item.

"That is the gist, in a way. These languages can affect the world one mana is offered, yet you have to understand both the language and your spells well enough to not be limited to written sigils like enchanters can be."

Watching on at the Gazi's attempt, the cat made sure to be there to aid if it was required. The emulation was quite endearing, yet it seemed the rat did learn quite well from example. A high-pitched whistle escaped their lips as they clapped at the rat's achievement.

"My! That's a proper good job you've done there. Improvements are possible to gather it proper, of course, but honestly I think it's only a matter of time before you get the hang of it." Floating forward, a curious tilt of the head was given towards the hand shields. Those lilac hues reflecting the raw energy's light.

"Aye, aye! Actually putting theory to use is quite difficult, that is true. I've been trying to learn Order magic myself for quite some time, but utilizing it is difficult."

At the mention of dualcasting, the cat's head tilted once more. The lavender hair, braided quite meticulously and cared for evidently, swinging back and forth for a moment.

"I haven't tried that before. Admittedly I'm not very much of a combat magi, but rather one of crafts and medicine. Yet theoretically it could be possible. Splitting your attention like that, however, can be difficult to manage. You'd have to separate each casting style to cast on its own so that they don't take the easy route of supporting the other casting styles.

Essentially giving specific instructions to all four aspects of your casting at the same time. At least the focus required for such a feat can be acquired. Even if I feel it may not be attainable via training alone once you get to tri and quadra-casting."

[03:59] There was some pause after hearing what Kateto had to say on the matter.
There was a lot here... Especially considering that the man that offered him a book, and even taught him some of the basics had a child -- one, that floated before him now.

It was quite the occurrence -- to imagine he stopped him initially under the presumption of theft.
"Yeah, I've been practicing for a while. Funny, how things turn out." He answered in reference to the majority of what they immediately responded with.

"I know it's not going to be easy with my efforts, so I figured I'd isolate my spell variety to get the technique down. It's a theory on my Concurrent Multicasting Technique:
Restraining myself to a single spell, in this case -- A Shield spell, and concentrating on a singular element, to which I took upon Ether: The most mundane of magical influences.

Then, I started practicing it via all methods... The first, was runecasting, as I presumed finding a teacher would prove the most difficult. That, and I had not the slightest clue as to how I'd theorize it, out of the other three.

Then, I worked out Visionary Casting the spell, which proved rather difficult -- but it was easiest to envision similar to the theorems on Empyrean versus Abyssal manifestations of Barrier and Death magic alike. I selected something mundane, and attempted to cast an aegis around it. Barrier magic suggests that exclusively holy magic can work to 'protect' others...

Whilst Death magic suggests that potent displays of the occult would imbibe a soul-shattering curse when encompassing a target. But raw Ether straddles the line between these domains, devoid of Empyrean and Abyssal influence, per the Principia Magicae. Thus, a barrier devoid of either focused on an entity outside of myself could be constructed -- as difficult as it was.

Symbolic casting came next -- given it was powered by the heart and one's soul? I simply had to Will it above all else. It is immensely strenuous when applied on top of the other two, but do-able. I think, between Visionary Casting and Symbolic Casting -- they are the hardest combinations to get right.

Finally, I tried wordcasting… On its own? I can do it to limited effect. I've never been able to successfully speak an aegis into existence with extensive effectiveness. Then again, I've never quite worked on myself in that regard, so it is no wonder that when I start to cast through this method, my concentration breaks." A symptom of self-doubt... A part of him simply didn't believe himself capable -- with a principle of Charisma and Confidence lying behind the successful invocation of wordcasting? Such proved to be a ruthless casting block.

"So, I feel it's reliably within reason to quadra-cast... For me at least. As difficult as it is, it should allow me to push a spell fourfold. That, and the body should also be within this realm of influence. I have no idea how it would function. So, until I see success... It's all theory.

Talking to you, and many others has led me to realize that no one has really tried it before. Which is... Odd. I'd figure someone would've tried it before me."

Their eyes fall upon the area where the Sinka had fallen, dissipated to naught... And the mind got to thinking. About what exactly? It was not made known.

[04:24] A chuckle sounded from the cat as they listened to the rat's words. Getting lost in events within their mind as they thought upon it.

"The world has a weird way of working out. Months ago, I thought myself dead, yet it was something which would breathe new life into my goals."

Evidently, Kateto enjoyed interacting with the rat. Having a scholarly discussion was quite a pleasant surprise given they were stopped because of the presumption they were a thief rather than a local.

"I can get that. My method requires quite a bit of study to apply to a wide variety of spells. Yet focusing yourself on formulating this theory is good before you apply it to other manners of spellcasting. Slow and steady as you experiment with this hypothesis into a theory, and then perhaps a law one day."

The scientific method was quite important to Kateto. There was quite a bit of approval in the methodology which the Gazi took in their studies because of it. Working well in their analytical mind.

"The Principle Magicae is quite a useful book, that is true. However it is important to understand what the Abyssal and Empyrean is. Aspects of creation, as you must know, so there are some times where their rules differ from that of normal magic.

I've utilized the Occult to protect and heal, yet on a moment's notice, Holy is evidently more suited for protection. A barrier can be crafted of anything with enough effort, however a magic suited to such holds more compatibility, which is why Death and Barrier magic are two ends of the spectrum when it comes to Ether." They also held the book which Lirael created. Finding it somewhat humorous that her work has come up again, given their own assignment.

A nod and smile of approval was given to Bayezid as his story about his experimentation came to a close. The cold winter air biting at the cat's face now that they were long without wearingthat mask.

"With everything you've spoken upon, it would seem your understanding is astounding of these concepts. It is only a matter of time before you'll be able to put them to use. Keep trying at it, and your concentration and confidence will grow with it.

We're capable of far more than we initially think, Bayezid. So shoot past what you think possible, because there is a good chance you'll make it."

One last bit of encouragement for the tall Razuka from the older cat. They felt like an elderly mentor, yet they knew they were far too ignorant still to be able to play that role well. There was much to learn, and even more growth to be had.

"It is within reason, of course! Perhaps opting to become a Super-Magi and overcome the body's own limits would be something you could look into? I'm not skilled upon that matter, but it may give some more freedom to your casting, and improve your spells anyways to make it even stronger." A hand raised to their chin, tapping it a few times as they thought. Looking up at the azure sky above.

"I suppose it's because no one has ever needed it before. My runecasting works for my purposes, and compliments my medical work and crafting well. I've never really held the need to double-cast my magic, as interesting as the concept seems now.

Though, this is what trailblazers like you are for. I hold my own fields of study I pursue, but I look forward to seeing your papers upon this technique if you decide to publish them."

A small salute with two fingers would be given to the rat, however, as their conversation seemed to come to a close.

"This world is old, however, so perhaps someone has tried. People forgotten to the annals of time, as is unfortunately common.

I have to go for now, but this conversation has been fun, Bayezid. I hold high hopes for your studies, and will makesure to check in every so often if you require help. Yet I merely ask one thing." The cat spoke as they placed the plague doctor mask back upon their face.

"Don't tell other people you've associated with me. The remnants of the Fel forces may paint a target on you because of it. Once they realize I'm alive, they're going to hate me doubly so, and anyone close to me by extension."

[04:45] From one self-accomplished scholar to another... Academia was treating the razuka kindly, for one that started off in a sewer. To one's compliments, he offered a slight bow and 'thanks'. Surely, it was not something he was necessarily used to. It felt like he had fallen so rabidly behind his siblings, it was borderline maddening.

Yet, he steeled his resolve despite every realization of how vast the gap was betwixt himself and his clansmen.
"Perhaps, that's just it." He nodded his head as he listened to Kateto. I've been trying to figure out how to quadra-cast, with a mindset locked on doing it constantly... When instead, I should be trying to find a means of dua-casting instead, and only -briefly- quadra-casting at the specific point I need to amplify my efforts...

But I am not capable of going that far, or doing that much. I'm... Only a rat, after all."
There was consideration... Before, a realization! He, could not know for certain when to initiate quadra-casting... But the world around him? The environment? It was absolute. It always -was-... Ergo, to act upon it? Would not leave it uncertain as to what state it would become. It simply -did-.

Thus, perhaps the missing link was...
"Runes... Printed upon the body... To signal when particular conditions are met. That may be what I'd need to bridge the gap. To enable me to know when I'd need to quadra-cast, and only in those moments would I ever need to practice it, to reduce extensive strain.

Then, I can rely upon only two between these periods, giving the illusion of constantly inducing the concurrent castin--…" He was trailing off into a tangent. Kateto was on their departure, putting on their mask once more.
"Oh, my bad. I'll leave you to your endeavors... and I got it. I didn't see you, nor did I associate with you." There was a brief thought before he took upon a seemingly smug grin.

"You 'thief'."
At this point, it was simply a joke they could share between themselves now, as he waved him off.
"I'll be sure to have a published copy within the library here. Maybe I'll get copies sent out across the mainland. Until we meet again..."

[04:49] The mask shielded their face from sight, yet for some reason, one could tell they were smiling under it.

"You've got a good idea of how to proceed it would seem. I'm glad to have helped, even if I have just some lowly 'thief'." They spoke with a chuckle and a wave.

"Until next we see one another. I'll check the library quite a bit in the coming years though. Then I'll bring some rum to celebrate, or whatever your favorite food is. By then hopefully I'll be much more able to travel without this mask."

And with that, the doctor gave one more look, now seeming much more gentle than before despite the mythril gaze remaining the same, and set off.
