	↠ nan-nan + much like the nickname 'jen' zhennan also has the nickname 'nan-nan' given to him by GOD'S GIFT. it is used almost as a bribe to convince zhennan to forgive and forget or to just stop being such a drama queen ( or king ). this nickname is not used very often as to keep it's effect on zhennan high.

BACKGROUND |
	↠ zhennan was born in france to a foreign diplomat and a programmer. he was looked after by a nanny until he was old enough for pre-school, the moment he was old enough he was enrolled. he didn't enjoy preschool. zhennan didn't want to talk to the other kids, he wanted to be at home with his own toys where he didn't have to share or talk to the other kids, but still, he had to go. when he was about to turn 3 the family moved to london, england because his father got re-stationed to the embassy there.
	↠ shortly after their arrival in london zhennan's pre-school burned down. he had been in the building at the time and received 2nd degree burns to his arms and 3rd degree burns arms, which he had used to protect his face from the flames. he spent a couple of weeks in the hospital, they had to graft some of the burns, but thankfully they didn't get infected and healed well. however, even grafts and burns that heal well leave scars and he covers those scars still to this day. the memory of the fire is one of the earliest memories zhennan has.
	↠ instead of pulling him from preschool to let little zhennan deal with the trauma of the fire, his parents sent him right back to a different preschool. he was very stressed at the preschool and would sit as close to the door and as far away from the other kids as possible. thankfully he was about to start actual school.
	↠ zhennan loved school, he loved learning, and reading, and tests and because of his love for learning, his teachers loved him. he excelled in his classes and learnt quickly, learning was a good escape. sadly, in 2010 the family moved from london and zhennan had to say goodbye to his teachers and classmates. the huang's moved to kuwait where they would stay for six years.
	↠ zhennan loved kuwait. he loved the food, the environment, the culture, the language, everything. his friends parents would take them to markets and food stalls or up the high rise buildings to look over the city at night for fun. he loved it. school was different but he enjoyed it just the same, history became on of his favorite subjects. kuwait had such an interesting history curriculum, all about the middle east and northern africa, ancient egypt and the silk road.
	↠ it really broke zhennan's heart to leave kuwait, he had really put down roots there but at the same time he was excited to move on to the next chapter, next country and culture. the family moved to seoul, south korea and once again, he adapted. Seoul was a shock, for the first time in his life his thick dark hair and his honey toned skin didn't make him a minority, he was surrounded by people who looked something like him. zhennan never fully got used to this, he had lived 13 years of his life in the minority, suddenly being the majority was odd and strangely unsettling. beyond this he loved korea and he picked up the culture and language surprisingly quickly, adapting faster than ever before.
	↠ in 2019 zhennan was sent to the Demon Weapon Meister Academy to meet his meister and his twin pistol.

PERSONALITY |

	⇥ serious + sensible ⇤
		↳ zhennan is a rather serious person. he can laugh at a joke and enjoy some mindless fun, but he understands that there is a time for play and a time for work. some may argue that his definition of 'time for work' is far to broad and that his definition or 'time for play' is far too narrow but it is they way he likes things. serious 90% of the time fun 10% of it. beyond his seriousness, zhennan is also quite sensible and mature for his age. he is realistic ( see 'observant + quiet' for more ) and astute, able to accurately asses a situation and turn it in his favor. zhennan has impeccable manners most of the time, slightly undercut by his sarcasm and pedantic nature. he takes responsibility seriously and always delivers on his promises. zhennan is the level-head in a stressful situation and the first person to clobber you over the head when you are being stupid, except when it comes to NOTE TO SELF, zhennan stupidly goes along with everything they say.

	⇥ intelligent + pedantic ⇤
		↳ Zhennan is a well-read and intelligent person. He has a keen interest in philosophy and loves learning. Most nights he stays up thinking about the nature of the universe and asking existential questions. Despite his general intelligence he can be a very dumb person. He makes stupid mistakes and asks stupid questions, like forgetting to add water when boiling spaghetti or asking is coconut milk is dairy free. With all his knowledge and intelligence comes a downside, Zhennan is pedantic. He cares excessively about the little things and minor details of life. It also makes him very adherent to the law and any set of rules. He doesn’t skip class and is almost comically rule abiding. If you say something wrong, even if everyone can get the meaning of what you said, Zhennan will correct you. He doesn’t mean to be rude or condescending but it can come off that way. He bites his tongue when he thinks about it, often leading to him not saying much at all, but sometimes these automatic corrections slip his mind.

	⇥ observant + quiet ⇤
		↳ Unlike what most people assume, Zhennan is not quiet because he is shy or insecure, he is just quiet because he doesn’t really have anything he wants to say. Zhennan finds watching others and learning about them from what they do and say more interesting than most conversation - small talk bores him to no end. When he has something important to add to a discussion he will say it with no qualms and then return to his observations and attentive listening. Zhennan loves debating and deep conversations though, and can talk for hours if you get him going. The most sure-fire way to get him talking is to ask him about a topic that he knows a lot about or has an interest in like philosophy. Zhennan has always been an odd mix of realism and idealism, seeing all the possibilities in everything and realizing that most of them are unattainable - a reason why he loves philosophy and debate so much. This contradiction of seeing the possibilities and the reality feeds into his harsher side ( as seen in 'sarcastic + harsh' ).

	⇥ self-assured + open ( to new experiences ) ⇤
		↳ Despite how quiet he his Zhennan is very self-assured. He trusts in his abilities and is sure he can get himself out of any situation. ALthough he doesn’t talk much when he does it is with conviction and confidence. Growing up mostly on his own Zhennan learned to trust in himself and his abilities to do things, no one else was going to do them for him. Whilst this has led to some difficulties delegating and trusting others (see ‘weaknesses’) it also made him rather self-assured. another way his background shaped him, was by making him rather adventurous, moving around a lot as a kid, skipping from country to country, teaches you to adapt quickly and make the most of opportunities. this constant change has made him very open to new experiences and the idea of change.

	⇥ sarcastic + harsh ⇤
		↳ His natural language is sarcasm and even things that he intends to be sincere can end up dripping in sarcasm. He uses sarcasm in all his conversations, whether with friends or a teacher - thankfully, due to his good grades his teachers let this slide most of the time. about 50% of what his says is probably sarcastic. Because of his observant nature Zhennan tends to notice people’s flaws and mistakes and he is not afraid to point them out. This rubs a lot of people the wrong way. He never intends to be rude but it can come off that way. Zhennan doesn’t have a strong grasp on his emotions and can sometimes let them get the better of him, when that does happen he tends to lash out and be pretty harsh.


LIKES |
	↠ cats - since he was a young boy zhennan has adored cats. they're independent and self-absorbed, something that makes it all the more exciting when they curl up next to you or let you pet them. he has two pet cats, bagheera and t'challa.
	↠ novelty - having moved around a lot as a child zhennan has gone fond of new things. of change. when things stay the same for too long he gets antsy, waiting for the other shoe to drop and everything to be shaken up again.
	↠ reading - as an only child who was often ignored by his parents he found ways to entertain himself, none brought him quite as much joy as reading. he loves being transported to a new fantastic world with every book he reads.
	↠ quiet - zhennan likes the quiet, he can focus better in silence, it's relaxing. he enjoys sitting down in a near silent room and reading a book.
	↠ fried chicken - zhennan adores fried chicken, it is his favorite food. he would eat it at every meal if he could, sadly his parents would never allow that.
	↠ succulents - zhennan has a disturbingly large collection of succulents that he is worryingly attached to. he likes giving them punny nicknames like sir pokes-a-lot, free hugs, mr. snuggles, cactus everdeen, spikey mcspikeface, mc hammer etc.
	↠ the cold - the cold calms zhennan down, if he is feeling stressed out or likes he is losing control of himself he steps outside, if it is cold out, if it is not cold then he splashes his face with cold water or takes a cold shower.

DISLIKES |
	↠ nail biting - this gets under zhennan skin like nothing else. he finds nail biting very gross and will stop anyone around him who is biting their nails.
	↠ fruit flavored candies - zhennan isn't the biggest fan of candies as a whole, unless they are the sour ones, but he hates fruit flavored candies especially. they are so artificial and far too sweet in his opinion. why ruin a good thing in fruit by turning it into those monstrosities.
	↠ shellfish - shellfish, especially oysters, make zhennan gag at the simplest mention of them. he hates the smell, texture and taste. he especially hates the fact that they are often served whole, so you can easily tell they used to be a living animal. he doesn't want to be reminded that a living thing was killed for his meal.
	↠ horoscopes - bollocks, complete bollocks. zhennan does not believe in horoscopes at all and is on a stupid one person mission to stop anyone from using them. he gets absurdly upset over them, but that's just the way he is.
	↠ willful ignorance - he understands that people can't know and understand everything, it is simply not possible. but the idea of people willfully ignoring good evidence or a helpful explanation someone is trying to give them annoys him to no end.
	↠ unwavering positivity - he doesn't necessarily dislike unwavering positivity, it is more that he is unsettled by it. he doesn't trust anyone that positive all time, something has to be seriously wrong with them or it has to be an act.

TRIVIA |
	↠ zhennan always wears gloves, no matter the weather, to cover his scars; he is very self conscious about them and hides them away.
	↠ despite what most believe zhennan actually enjoys skinship, he would never initiate it himself, he doesn't have the social confidence for that, but he enjoys it. his family wasn't very outwardly affectionate so he is still rather new to physical affection but he really enjoys it.
	↠ he doesn't react very easily but when he does he seems like a completely different person, his laugh is more of a giggle and he has a very soft smile.
	↠ he wears a lot of dark colors and monochromatic outfits although he sometimes breaks out a pastel sweater and shocks everyone to their core. despite his preference for the darker clothing zhennan always wears bright and or graphic socks. his favorite pair are a horrible neon green with a bunch of little half-peeled-banana graphics on them. they are objectively horrible to look at but he loves them.
	↠ his family has two black cats, one called bagheera and the other t'challa.
	↠ he loves learning weird and useless facts and then sharing them with everyone whether they want to know about random laws in switzerland or not.
	↠ when he is sick zhennan will curl up with a mug of hot chocolate and watch barbie movies - don't tell anyone though, he will never hear the end of it.
	↠ the huang family has a long history of paring with other demon weapons outside of the family. his grandmother was a half of a demon colt duo.

FEARS/DISORDERS/TRIGGERS |
	↠ fire - as a young boy zhennan's preschool burned down, he has some mild scarring on his arms and some pretty bad scarring on his hands.
	↠ being abandoned - zhennan's parents weren't around much when he was a child, they were very busy with work. this lack of support in his younger years has led to him seeking out that sort of support as a teen and latching on to people who provide him with it and then being terrified they will let him go.

OTHER FACTS |
	↠ when he is stressed he tugs at the wrist of his gloves and also scratches at the burns on his arms
	↠ he runs his hands through his hair constantly
	↠ he gets upset relatively easily, he is a rather sensitive person at heart, and when he gets upset he ignores everyone, that is where his nicknames and their 'special powers' over him come in.
	↠ even though he tries to hide it, zhennan really cares about his meister and his twin weapon. he respects them and would never want to see harm come to either of them, he would sooner die.
	↠ despite his harsher, pedantic side he is oddly supportive of NOTE TO SELF and hypes him up no matter how stupid his plans are or how silly he is being.
	↠ he can speak five languages with varying degrees of fluency
			↠ mandarin + fluent + 100% - he speaks mandarin at home, it is his mother tongue.
			↠ english + semi-fluent + 75% - he has lived in english speaking countries for a couple of years so his english is pretty good. and, unlike with french and arabic, he keeps studying english at school so he hasn't lost much of what he learned and has, in fact, learned more.
			↠ arabic + semi-fluent + 70% - zhennan lived for the longest time in kuwait where he spoke arabic. his arabic is still pretty good although he has gotten a bit rusty and needs to take some time to translate in his head and figure out the grammar before speaking.
			↠ korean + conversational + 40% - he lived most recently in korea so the language is the freshest, excluding mandarin. he only lived there for about three years and went to an international school so his only time for learning was out in the city of seoul.
			↠ french + semi-conversational + 25% - french was the language zhennan learnt alongside mandarin. he was in france from the age of 0 to the age of three. he learnt some of the language in this time but was unable to communicate fluently and as he moved away so young he hasn't really retained the language. if he were to study it now he would probably pick it up very quickly but he couldn't really speak much of it now.

STRENGTHS |
	↠ intelligence and wit - zhennan is smart and he has a quick wit. this aides him in both his studies and in fights, verbal ones at least. he
	↠ resilience - because he grew up in such an unstable environment he has learned how to build himself back up and how to flourish wherever he is. he much like a flower growing through a crack in the concrete.
	↠ focus - he has this weird ability to zone completely in one something, ignoring everything around him - in all honesty is both a blessing and a curse as it means he is rather unaware of what is going on outside his little bubble of concentration. this doesn't happen that often, he has to be really interested or worried about something for this 'tunnel vision' to set it but when it does it is hard for him to get out of his focused state without completing the task or calming his anxieties.

WEAKNESSES |
	↠ social graces and skills - for all his general intelligence and book smarts zhennan is not very emotionally intelligent or socially aware. he struggles with social interactions and often just let's GOD'S GIFT take the speaking role in any conversations.
	↠ working in teams - he works well with GOD'S GIFT and NOTE TO SELF but his teamwork skills aren't great. in any other teams he fails. he struggles to listen to others ideas and, being such a unique character, he is quite the acquired taste. people who do not know him well, or like him already will often end up disliking or resenting him at the end of working together. thankfully, this is not the case with his meister and weapon pair.
	↠ untrusting - zhennan has trouble trusting people. he hasn't had any massive let down or back-stab that would lead to this, it is just the accumulation of all the little lies his parents told him - "i'll be back by 10, promise", "of course we'll come to your recital", "don't worry about that, mom will take care of it". this constant stream of falsehoods has made promises next to worthless to zhennan, he can't take anyone a their word. because of this he holds his own promises to a high standard and would never break one unless absolutely necessary, as in it is physically impossible to complete the promise.

THOUGHTS ON YOUR MEISTER/DEMON WEAPON |
	↳ i think at first zhennan would have struggled with them but after a little while he would come to really like them. he would keep up his front of indifference for a while, but they would be able to see through it as he is not the best liar. he begrudgingly comes to love and respect them.

LOVE INTEREST |
	↳ as he is one of the last characters to be filled i will just go with anyone who has chosen him. if no one has then either ( or both if possible ) NOTE TO SELF or GOD'S GIFT :)

	↳ hello! thank you for being so nice when i asked my questions <3 i hope you like zhennan and that he fits with how you imagined the character. i am not very familiar with Soul Eater although i did do some research to make sure i wasn't going too far outside of its lore with this character. let me know if you would like to change anything! as i mentioned in my pm/dm i thought it would be nice to go for a character who is the opposite of GOD'S GIFT, really make NOTE TO SELF's life harder with two opposing yet somehow harmonious weapons. zhennan is basically just a edgy emo boi who needs love and is kind of in denial of his true form as an emo boi. please take care of him <3
