- TV Static. That's what it reminded her of. When you left the TV on too long and the channel went off air and it simply played static and noise for hours while you slept. This was every waking moment of her life, and every sleeping moment too. A thousand voices all combined into an impossible to translate cacophony that would be deafening were it not all in her head.
- The volume crept up louder and louder and reluctantly she opened her eyes. Two dark pools devoid of detail stared up at the ceiling of a dimly lit room. She slowly lifted her head and sat up, her eyes unblinking as her gaze passed around the spartan accomodations. Not because the hive couldn't provide but because she felt there was no point. It was all irrelevent anyway.
- One foot moved over the side of the bed to land on the floor. The static began to screech. The other leg followed. She stared at the wall now, immobile as any statue.
- Minutes passed before she finally stood up properly. The noise that suffused every waking moment had reached its peak and could threaten her no further. Hunger won out over the screams. She walked through the empty doorway and down the evershifting hallway outside, the walls were like barely contained liquid shadow roiling and bubbling. She never understood why the hive felt they needed to place defenses around her resting place. It was a futile gesture, nothing of this world could harm her in the first place.
- This was one of the many reasons she often slept the days away. There was a difference between simply being strong, and being invincible. She could never feel afraid, never feel endangered, never had to break a sweat or exert herself. Life was dreadfully boring. She had for a time amused herself with the videogames Food enjoyed, and it had proven useful to quiet the static. But she soon realized that without it she wasn't just bored, she was lonely and it was even worse.
- She approached a member of the hive, who probably added a voice to the static. Empty black pools stared a hole into his soul as she reached out and made the briefest of contact with his mind - Causing him to double over silently as he moved out of her way. She exited the safety of the dimension and entered the 'Real' world. Immediately the volume was turned down and her body became numb.
- Another body walked through the night, only noteworthy by a seeming lack of fear. Pet, Food, It didn't matter what they came across they fed all the same, leaving Food staggering drunkenly and Pets abruptly sure of who their real master was in their wake.
