Bypass Facebook Australian News Ban with RSS news Feeds (2021-02-20)


hello and welcome if you're an

Australian user you've

no doubt are aware now that face book

has decided to go nuclear and remove new

support from its platform for Australian

users

a lot of people are concerned about this

but we actually can

read a lot of news without the need for

Facebook or google

or apple services or Microsoft services

we can use an

old um actually it's a very old format

now it's the rss format i think it's

probably

15 20 years old and a lot of news

websites

still support it and what it is it's

pretty much

like a headline it's a way of requesting

a bunch of headlines from this website

i'm using a thing called feed bro it's

an extension for firefox here

and when i go to open up the tab after

adding some websites it gives me a list

of

articles i can go read if i want to

this would uh in this case here it's

from the same newspaper there but

there's other newspapers there as well

uh the australian i didn't modern admin

on the western australians down the

bottom there

uh as for what uh newspapers support rss

feeds i'm not really sure

but look at this little a short list

over here

and these obviously these five here do

but it's a whole list of other ones on

wikipedia there that you can try out

now the way you do this i'll just jump

to

this is the age newspaper

so if i had this extension installed

feed bro install you open up the

newspaper

that you're interested in go to your

feed bro icon and hit

find feeds in tab and if there are any

feeds it gives you a list of them

let's say you're interested in i don't

know rugby league

some afl you know entertainment sorry

environment that means

technology that'll do us hit subscribe

done so what this

feed brow is going to do is it's going

to poll

this rss feed from this website

periodically

and i'll give us a list of them so we go

back to feed reader

and we can see whatever's new is in here

we can

update feed i guess we'll try that one

there

we've got eight uh eight articles in

latest news

now if i click through these headlines

here it takes me to the website

this is a conversation between your

browser and that website you're talking

to

so this is outside of the bounds of

facebook this is outside the bounds of

any google service

apple services etc which is kind of

handy because that means that they're

not

taking notice and watching what articles

you read

forming an opinion about you you know

it's pretty much an anonymous way to

to read your news not all new sites

have this support you probably find a

lot of them don't probably smaller

regional

websites don't if you're in a position

to

petition them to add support for that

yeah

they should do it a lot of those sites

offer an email update all the time

pretty much

and that's one way of doing it this way

it's in your browser

you can view it whenever you want or

just click away for it anytime you feel

like

you know back to watching a website
