Mirror Loophole

The Ith figure snarled and blue-red waves of flame shot from his palm in a solid stream.

Jodah shouted and put his hands up in front of his face, clutching the mirror like a protective talisman, this time trying to catch the force of the magical blow with it. He thought of his anger at Mairsil, and his pity for Lord Ith.

The flame bounced from the mirror and looped around the room, moving like a serpent of fire. The serpent reared and struck at last at the Lord High Mage. Mairsil screamed as the flames washed over him, igniting his fine clothing, his hair, and finally his flesh.

Jodah knew at once what had happened. Mairsil Was protected against Ith’s attacks, as he had said, but not Jodah’s, and the attack had come ultimately from Jodah’s mirror.
