  1. Various powers of relevance
  2.
  3. -Aurilie
  4. Formal name: The Kingdom of Aurilie
  5. -Capital: Orfreme
  6. The westernmost of the great powers and the most knightly (if you ask an Aurilian for as much as that is worth.) Nevertheless, Aurilie began life as the personal domain of a barbarian king who settled in the area after the collapse of the Isidorian empire before transforming into the prototype of the stereotypical feudal kingdom. Aurilie has a proud and powerful nobility that jealously guards their possessions and privileges against both each other and their King, although in recent years this has been a losing battle thanks to the wily politics of the Aurilian Kings, who seem determined to tighten their grasp over the country with every new generation.

  8. -Tautenland
  9. Formal name: The Empire of Tautenland
  10. Capital: Officially none; the current Imperial dynasty does permanently reside in Sternheim.

  12. The Empire of Tautenland is unique among its peers in that it carries imperial dignity in the West, much to the chagrin of the Mithradians, with whom they have had a long rivalry ever since. Initially, the Tauten tribes lived in this area since the time of the Isidorian empire and were neighbours, raiders, traders, and mercenaries for them. After the fall, the Tauten tribes slowly fell under the influence of the Auril Kingdom. The last time Aurilie and Tautenland were united was before the permanent partition. The massive size of the realm has proved a headache for the Kaisers time and time again. And they often have to strike a precious balance between themselves and the imperial princes. Tautenland has no capital; the imperial court is supposed to travel between its various holdings to oversee one region at a time. But, with the increasing urbanisation and revival of bureaucratic practice, the current Weiblingen family has in practice used its capital to rule. Thanks to its decentralised nature, Tautenland is perhaps the most urbanised country outside of the lands of Castana, with its northern coasts and rivers dotted with free cities.

  14. -Mithras
  15. Formal name: The exiled realm of Isidor in the Mithradian Archipelago.
  16. -Capital: Elisonikon
  17. The empire of Mithras considers itself to be the sole heir of the former Isidorian empire, and for good reason. Unlike the feudal-tribal structures that have taken over the rest of the continent, Mithras retained its bureaucratic hierarchy, army, and navy. It has long been considered the main link between East and West as far as trade relations are concerned. It is said that Elisonikon is the greatest and wealthiest city in the West. Unfortunately, years of peaceful isolation have made the noble families of the empire spend more time outwitting each other at court rather than remaining vigilant on the shores. It began with the sinking of a sizable portion of the imperial fleet by a coalition of Castanian republics. Which led to an invasion by the infidels from the Orient, eager to knock them down a peg. Nevertheless, Mithras maintains a complicated relationship with the West, seeing in them both barbarians and allies to hold back the infidels.
