Instead, Azure greatly appreciated American jazz bands and Broadway theater. Her family wasn't the richest, but they were financially stable. Therefore, Azure and her parents often charmed their way into making many friends in their close community so they would be generously granted access to dancing and singing lessons—though Azure would mostly teach herself languages, instruments, and even acting (though she took a drama course in school). When she was fifteen, she and her family temporarily moved to Daegu, South Korea, to stay with her father's family. By then, she felt encouraged by her friends to audition, she being so versatile. She auditioned at S.M. Entertainment, failing to become a trainee, before stumbling upon Jellyfish/Pledis. She auditioned, and they accepted her.
