  11. Horikiya asking 50% about his new circle of friends - Volume 7
  12.
  13. >"Well then let's change the topic. Are you still meeting up with that group?"
  14.
  15. >"That group? You mean Keisei and them? Something wrong with that?"
  16.
  17. >"I can't think of any benefit meeting up with them. It was originally a study group made since Hasebe and Miyake's poor subjects aligned am I right? It isn't necessary anymore since we don't have any upcoming exams."
  18.
  19. >"Whether it's beneficial or not isn't important. It's just comfortable, to be with them."
  20.
  21. >It's because whenever I'm with you, the conversations only moves towards aiming for class A.
  22.

  24. Horikita and Sudo subplot since the beginning of the series summary
  25.
  26. >To be fair, nothing is official until someone accepts a confession. But if we look at the amount of development Horikita and Sudou has together it's possible to see the lines from V1 where she tried to help him study and survive at school, the hearing with C-class in V2, him realising how he feels about her in V3, him trying to impress her in V4.5, then in V5 where they both get stumped by Ryuuen and bonds with each other to cover each others' weaknesses and she finally see that he has some merit. In V6 they are partners in the paper shuffle test and in V7 he tries his best to shield her from Ryuuen, afraid she gets injured when picking up glass shards.
  27.
  28. >Though it's not official, there is a subplot about them from the very beginning.
  29.
  30. >I have a feeling she knows about him liking her, he said this to her during their bonding scene:
  31. 「…… 入学して早々、おまえは俺を救ってくれただろ。だからだからお前とはちゃんとした恋……いや、まずは友達に なりてーと思ってる。そのためのステップ ってヤツだ」
  32.
  33. >No translation bias, just the raw statement from him to her.
  34.
  35. >Mind you, I think Sudou is a good guy, he has improved tremendously, is willing to risk his getting expelled to help Katsuragi, from class A, to get his present to his ill sister. He is getting better along with everyone and is the first to raise his voice whenever his class is in danger. How is that not a good guy?

  39. Horikita and 50% scene - Showing Emotions - Volume 7
  40.
  41. >"Your smiling face grosses me out."
  42.
  43. >"Whose?"
  44.
  45. >"Yours. You should at least be aware of that yourself without me telling you."
  46.
  47. >"If there is something I'm sure of, that is the fact that I was not smiling."
  48.
  49. >I don't have any memories of the corners of my mouth moving at all.
  50.
  51. >"You must be either too honest or just slow...... I am talking about your inner self."
  52.
  53. >It seems she must have realized I was happy getting a text from my friends.
  54.

  56. Kouenji vs Ryuuen Summary - Volume 7
  57.
  58. >After class Ryuuen and his henchmen visit class C and tries to find Kouenji. Sudou starts yelling at them to get out followed by several of the other guys. Kouenji goes out of the classroom and Ryuuen follows. Horikita, Sudou goes ahead after them. Ayanokouji, Yukimura and Miyake comes a bit later after convincing Hirata to stay in case other people come to their class.
  59.
  60. >During Ryuuen's interrogation, Kouenji does his hair, styling himself, without a care in the world. Kouenji makes Ryuuen hold a hand mirror so Koenji can use to get more beautiful. Ryuuen smashes it on the ground, Horikita starts to pick up the pieces, but Sudou stops her and does it instead.
  61.
  62. >Ryuuen uses this interrogation to ask questions, while he is checking whether Kouenji is the same type of person as him. Dragon Boy is born. Kouenji hates the name.
  63.
  64. >Arisu and her group comes later and provokes him. Ryuuen also wants to strike back at Kouenji for his play at the Zodiac Exam. When Kouenji is about to give the name of the one who is likely to be X, Arisu stops him, questioning Ryuuen whether Xis just a ruse and the truth is Ryuuen is just failing. The contract between A and C is revealed.
  65.
  66. >Kouenji is getting uninterested and begins to leave. Ryuuen tries to make him say the name, but Kouenji doesn't want to let Ryuuen's chance of having fun end like this. They begin fighting stance. Arisu calls Ryuuen Dragon Boy and he really tries to kick her but is blocked by one of her henchmen. Kouenji calls Arisu Little Girl, since she looks like an elementary student, which she is clearly disliking. They all leave after Kouenji leaves.
  67.
  68. >Ryuuen now knows that Kouenji is not X. Move to next plan.
  69.

  71. Satou asking 50% on a date - Volume 7
  72.
  73. >1 hour after the class ended most of the students had already left the school grounds.
  74.
  75. >"We're talking about going to Keyaki Mall after this, what'll you do?" the one who asked me that was Yukimura who was approaching me.
  76.
  77. >"Sure. I don't have anything particular planned for today anyways" I replied to him. "After I finish packing I'll come" I told him.
  78.
  79. >"Then I'll be waiting in the hallway" he replies.
  80.
  81. Just in case, I should bring some of the textbooks with me since there's still the possibility I might be needing them later.
  82.
  83. >"Umm...could it be that you're not free right now?". The one who called out with that apologetic voice was none other than Satou.
  84.
  85. >"Yeah, I'm planning on hanging out with Yukimura and the others" I tell her.
  86.
  87. >"I...I see" Satou's shoulders droop in disappointment. I wonder if she was planning on asking me out again like last time? If so.
  88.
  89. >"Today might be problematic, but would the winter holidays be ok with you?" I ask Satou.
  90.
  91. >"Eeeh?". "I mean, it seemed bad for me to refuse you twice in a row so..." I replied to her.
  92.
  93. >"R-really?" she asked in excitement.
  94.
  95. >"Yeah". Satou then excitedly pressed her body against me.
  96.
  97. >"I-It's a promise then!" she says with a red face while jumping around joyfully. I wonder why exactly she's this interested in me.
  98.
  99. Of course I have nothing against this but since there were still people left in the classroom I felt slightly embarrassed.
  100.
  101. >"In any case, from tomorrow onwards is fine I'll send you the details via mail" I tell her.
  102.
  103. >"Understood!" she says. "Then see you later Ayanokouji-kun!" she says while leaving the class with Shinohara while having a joyful face.
  104.

  106. Hasebe & Sakura reaction summary on 50% and Satou - Volume 7
  107.
  108. The same day as he got a message from Ryuuen and Karuizawa about what would happen that day (last day of the semester before winter break), he talks with Ayanokouji group about going to the mall.
  109. Satou comes and asks if he had other plans. She is disheartened that he can't come today so she asks if he was free during the break. She is obviously stunned for a moment before saying it felt bad declining her twice so he agrees. He wonder why she is so interested in him. It didn't feel bad, but since there there still were people in the classroom he felt a bit embarrassed.
  110.
  111. He rejoins with his group. Haruka has a suspicious smile while Sakura has a cloudy expression. They admonish him saying Horikita, Satou, he has no integrity. Since he thought they would just go out and play he see no faults, but the others knows she was asking him for a date. Sakura wonders if Satou is interested in him with these: !?
  112.
  113. His common sense is failing him.

  117. 50% vs Papa 50% - Volume 7
  118.
  119. >«How about you sit down. I’m using up my time to meet you after all.»
  120.
  121. >It’s been one ye-, no……one and a half years since I heard this man’s voice.
  122. >His way of speaking and tone hasn’t changed at all.
  123. >Not that I specifically wanted him to anyway.
  124.
  125. >«I’m not planning on holding a long conversation that requires me to sit down, I have planned on meeting some friends later.»
  126.
  127. >«Friends? Don’t make me laugh. You aren’t capable of such things.»
  128.
  129. >He hasn’t even seen how I live, yet still judges his statement to be true.
  130. >Believing he is absolutely right, that’s typical of him.
  131.
  132. >«Whether we talk now or not will amount to nothing hereon.»
  133.
  134. >«So I can assume I got a favourable answer? If that’s so, there’s no need to talk anymore. I’m also busy and got some time in between to come after all.»
  135.
  136. >He didn’t pay me any attention while arriving at his conclusion.
  137.
  138. >«I don’t know what the answer you want is.»
  139.
  140. >«I have prepared the papers for you to drop out. I was talking about it with the headmaster earlier. You just have to say «yes», then we can be done it with.»
  141.
  142. >He saw my intention to mislead him and went directly to the main topic.
  143.
  144. >«I see no reason why I should.»
  145.
  146. >«That may be so for you, but I do have some of my own.»
  147.
  148. >He looked at me for the first time.
  149.
  150. >That sharp glance hasn’t withered, in fact, it has seemingly increased with his age.
  151. >Pupils like sharpened blade edges, like he could see thorough into the core. Many people have probably felt being assaulted by them. I took them right on.
  152.
  153. >«You mean a parent, for now, plans on twisting the child’s wishes on his own accord?»
  154.
  155. >«Parent you say? You have never recognised me as a parent.»
  156.
  157. >«Indeed.»
  158.
  159. >It’s suspicious whether this man has ever considered me his own child in the first place. It’s likely we only recognised ourselves as father and son on paper only. Doesn’t matter whether there is a blood relation or not.
  160.
  161. >«The point is, you were acting on your own accord. I ordered you to remain on standby.»
  162.
  163. >He threw out, forgetting his earlier order for me to sit. Then he continued.
  164.
  165. >«You defied my orders and entered this school. I’m ordering you to drop out immediately as a matter of fact.»
  166.
  167. >«Your orders were only valid inside the White Room. Right now, I don’t need to listen to them anymore.»
  168.
  169. >It was simple logic. But of course he wouldn’t be satisfied with that.
  170.
  171. >«You have become quite talkative since last time I saw you. Influenced by this worthless school I see.»
  172.
  173. >Resting his cheek on his hand, the man looked at me like watching excrements.
  174.
  175. >«Anyway, let me hear your answer to my last question.»
  176.
  177. >«The meaningless one about you not requiring to listen to me anymore? You are my property. The owner has every right to use it as he fits. I don’t need to tell you this. Whether you live or die is for me to decide.»
  178.
  179. >To honestly being able say that in this country in which law rule prevails, what a wicked person.
  180.
  181. >«No matter how much you are stuck on it, I don’t plan on leaving this school.»
  182.
  183. >Doesn’t matter what I say, we are just going in circles.
  184.
  185. >He hates wasting time on useless talk so he should know this. Then what is next? Of course he will strike his next card.
  186.
  187. >«Aren’t you curious what became of Matsuo who told you about this school and gave you the idea to enroll?»
  188.
  189. >«Not really.»
  190.
  191. >That’s a name I remember, his face pops up in my mind.
  192.
  193. >«He was managing you as a butler for a year. In the end, he went against his employer’s orders.»
  194.
  195. >He was talking non-stop, then suddenly stopped. By doing this, he could carve the contents and make the listener conscious of the grave matter this conversation contained. Using a heavy tone and a deep glance, the listener would assume the conversation was about to go in a negative direction, wondering how bad it may have went.
  196.
  197. >«Teach you how flee from me, about this school’s existence, and then ignoring me, your real parent’s intentions by sending the papers for your enrolment. Truly a foolish thing to do.»
  198.
  199. >He picked up the teacup the school prepared for him and took a slurp.
  200.
  201. >«That is an inexcusable, unforgivable act. Of course he had to be punished.»
  202.
  203. >It was not a threat, he was just stating the facts without mixing in his feelings on the matter.
  204.
  205. >«You may have imagined it already. He was fired by me.»
  206.
  207. >«Since you are his employer, that’s a valid reason.»
  208.
  209. >The mat who was my butler was close to 60 years old. He was outstandingly good at looking after people, and was easy to like. A man well liked by all children. He married young, but was not blessed with children. He got his first child when he was over 40 years old, but he sadly lost his wife in exchange. His child was about the same age as me. I remember him bragging about his son all the time. I have never met his son, but Matsuo told be he was studying really hard as to repay his father. The smile he had is still burnt inside my memories.
  210.
  211. >«You must have known about him. Matsuo’s beloved son.»
  212.
  213. >He must seen me remembering about them, before he added.
  214.
  215. >«As you enrolled into this school, Matuo’s son also managed to pass the difficult entrance exam and enrolled into a famous private high school. He surely worked really hard.»
  216.
  217. >He added a pause, then continued.
  218.
  219. >«But, he has now been expelled.»
  220.
  221. >His words were simple, the meaning clear.
  222.
  223. >He was avoiding to say it directly, but he had made sure the school retracted his son’s enrolment to punish him.
  224.
  225. >Because this man had the power to do so.
  226.
  227. >«And so? Did a man such as you only end it with this? So kind you are.»
  228.
  229. >«His son is a strong child. Even after expulsion from his desired school, he didn’t falter. He began enrolment into other schools. But I played my hand with them all. I stopped all his attempt at entering high school and made him give up. Same for Matsuo. Spreading his bad reputation resulted in him not finding any new work. The result, his son lost his course and became unemployed.
  230.
  231. >It was a talk about how my acts had resulted in Matsuo and his son losing everything. A made-up story it is not, but the truth. If he only meant to report about this petty thing, it was a letdown.
  232.
  233. >«You are probably not surprised at this point. Since they went against their employer’s orders, some form of compensation must be made. But it seems he didn’t expect one to such a degree. He was responsible, kind man from the very beginning. Losing his wife early, raising his son alone, grieving over that his careless actions had led to him robbing his son of his future. He found only one way to save his son. For reparations he pleaded me to not touch his son anymore, then last month he burned himself to death.»
  234.
  235. >This was the point he wanted to say after his long speak. That my selfish actions was connected to the tragedy of others.
  236.
  237. >«His son is now working part-time without any guarantee to if he can survive to the next day. No dreams. no hope.»
  238.
  239. >«His family falling into ruins is all your fault. His son must hate you.»
  240.
  241. >«No forgiveness even after death.»
  242.
  243. >As I was about to ask «And then», the corners of his mouth curved slightly.
  244.
  245. >«The man who took care of you, the man who saved you has died and you don’t seem to be paying it any attention. Matsuo would have turned in his grave seeing your attitude. The one he bet his own life.»
  246.
  247. >True or false, the reason for Matsuo and his son’s fall to ruins lies solely with this man. There is no need to feel remorse for dead people. But this man wasn’t trying to stir my feelings of guilt. Nor did he want me to show empathy. He just wanted to state it. That he would show no mercy to those who enraged him. Nothing more than that.
  248.
  249. >«For the first, I don’t have any evidence that what you have told me is true.»
  250.
  251. >«Matsuo’s report of death has been confirmed. If necessary, I will bring you his records.»
  252.
  253. >So ask my anytime, he strongly implied.
  254.
  255. >«If he really is dead, then all the more the reason for me not to leave this school. As Matsuo helped me enroll despite knowing the consequences, I have to succeed his will.»
  256.
  257. >A joke of a reply to bullshit like this.
  258.
  259. >«You sure have changed, Kiyotaka.»
  260.
