- So in the last video I gave you a quick review on the B-loader device, and once it can be bought from Amazon, I will of course add some links to it in the video description. Now in today’s video I will show you how to configure the B-loader adapter, how to update its firmware, and what the best setup is to connect your B-loader device to your network. Setting up your B-loader is actually quite simple, and you only have to configure the adapter once. After that, it’s a plug and play experience. The following steps can only be done through a PC though.
- But before I cover the setup steps, I will show you how to update its firmware. This is the first step you should do when receiving your B-loader device. I also recommend to regularly check the B-loader website if a more recent firmware version has been published.
- To download the new firmware, go on the official website of the B-loader company. You can find a link to it in the video description. At the top you can find the download section. Click it, and you can see all available download options. The thing is, that I have recorded this video a few days after the B-loader has launched. So the B-loader team has not released any more recent firmware update yet. Because of that, you cannot see any download options in my video. Depending on the time you watch this video though, the situation should be different. So if there is a new version available, then download it now.
- Also, you can already download the B-loader Manager at the top. We will need this software for the actual setup later.
- Once you finished the firmware download, you should find a file in your download folder named update ,dot bin.
- Next you have to get your B-loader adapter, and hold down the button on the top. Keep on pressing it, and plug the adapter into your PC. Once it’s connected to your PC, you can stop pressing the button on the B-loader adapter. This is the required procedure to activate the firmware mode of your B-loader device. If you successfully followed these steps, then your B-loader adapter will show a white light and your PC will automatically open a new folder. If it didn’t, then you can find the B-loader as a new USB hard drive on the left side of your file browser.
- In that folder you can find two files. The version file will show you what kind of firmware you are running on. I am using the one from 2021, November, the 8th. And the other file in this folder is the actual firmware. All you have to do now, is to replace the old update file in this folder, with the new one that you have downloaded. So just drag the new one into this folder, and proceed with the file replacement option. That is already it, you have successfully updated your B-loader firmware. You can now unplug your B-loader from the PC.
- Next, I will show you how to configure your B-loader adapter. The following setup steps are identical for all gaming controllers, xim products, or other devices, that you want to connect to your adapter.
- Start by connecting your B-loader adapter to the PC again. This time don’t press the button before you connect the adapter. Instead, just connect it like a normal USB stick. After its connected to the PC, you can see a blue light on the B-loader adapter. When you can see that light, press the button on the B-loader. If you followed these steps, then your B-loader will shortly show a white light, and afterwards will turn off the LED.
- Also, there should be a pop-up window on your PC again with a new folder. Just like before, you can alternatively also open this folder manually, by clicking on the B-loader hard drive. You can find it on the left side of your file browser.
- In this folder you will have two files. These two will later contain your Wifi, and Remote Play login credentials. Next you have to open the B-loader manager. You already downloaded it during the firmware update step. If you haven’t, then open the download section of the B-loader website and download it.
- Once you have opened the manager, it should look like the following. The manager will walk you through the setup process. As you can see, there are 7 different steps, and we now have to go through them one by one. The first one has already been done. The next three steps are about your PSN ID Token. Since the B-loader adapter uses a Remote Play solution, it has to extract your ID Token from the Sony website. Otherwise it cannot establish a connection to your console. To do that you have to log into your PSN account. So click on the blue text field next to step two, and your browser will open the correct Sony website. Type in your login details, and click on the login button. A new website will load, and in the top left corner, it should say redirect. All you have to do now, is to copy the URL of this new website from the top of your web browser, and paste it into step 3. If you did it correctly, the link should look like the following. At the end of the link there will be lots of numbers and letters. I will of course not show my real link, or else you could log into my console.
- After that, click the blue button on step 4, so your B-loader device can extract the PSN ID Token.
- On step 5, you have to insert your Wifi credentials. The Wifi account refers to the name of your Wifi network. It’s the Wifi name you can see when searching for your router. Let’s say I have named my Wifi "FBI Surveillance-Van" Number 420. So I will have to type this into the field now.
- The Wifi password is the one that you have to use, to register with your network. Let’s say my password is “FBI Open Up”. Make sure to not have any typing error here, or else your adapter cannot register with your network.
- The next step will be number 6. For that, launch your console, and go into its settings. Follow the path from the B-loader manager. So go to System, and go down a bit, until you can see the Remote Play option. There you can choose Link Device. This will show you a long sequence number, that will be active for 5 minutes. I will obviously blur out my numbers so no one can log into my console. Keep this screen open, and type the numbers into your B-loader manager.
- So lets go back to the manager. Let's say my login numbers go up from 1, to 8. Don’t waste too much time here, as the numbers are only valid for 5 minutes. If you take too long, then you have to redo step 6.
- Next you can press the save button on step 7. Your B-loader adapter is now fully setup. If you go back to the B-loader folder, you could now open the two files in it, and check back if all adjustments are correct. I will not do that though to not leak my PSN Token.
- At last, unplug your B-loader adapter from the PC, and plug it into your console. If 5 minutes haven’t passed yet, then your B-loader device will now establish a Remote Play connection to your console. If it doesn’t work, then check if 5 minutes are already over, and as a result, the login numbers have changed. Alternatively go through the other steps again, to check if you have a typing error.
- Once you have a working connection, your B-loader adapter will be plug and play. So you will not have to do these setup steps again. To stop the connection just unplug the adapter, or shut down your console. And to establish it again, just plug it back into your console, or a different power source.
- Next I will go over the most optimal setup for your Network. None of these suggestions are mandatory, but can result in a better performance with your B-loader. You can see this as some sort of trouble shooting guide on how to get the lowest possible delay.
- As I said in my review, the B-loader adapter has two USB connectors. The front should be plugged directly into your Playstation, or into any other USB power source. If you plug it into your console then make sure to pick the console USB port that is closer to your router.
- As for the back of the B-loader, here you connect your xim Apex, xim4, xim Nexus, or any other device you want to use. I recommend to use a short USB extension cable between the two, like this one for example. That will make sure the two devices will not cause any wireless interferences with each other. Plug the cable into the B-loader, and your gaming device into the other end.
- At last, let’s go over the most optimal setup for your console. Ideally your Playstation is connected through an ethernet cable to the router. This will result in the lowest possible B-loader delay. If an ethernet cable isn’t an option, then try to use a short USB extension cable between your console and the B-loader adapter. This will once again prevent interferences and increase the quality of the connection. If you use an ethernet cable with your console, then this step isn’t necessary, you can directly connect the B-loader device into your console. Another good alternative to an ethernet cable is the following. If your router also offers a 5ghz frequency, then you should connect your Playstation to that Wifi frequency instead. That way the B-loader adapter and your console will operate on different frequencies, which helps with interferences. Also 5ghz is usually faster than 2.4ghz.
- So guys if you enjoyed the video, hit the like button or maybe even subscribe to this channel to not miss out on any of the upcoming videos. Also, contrary to popular believe, this channel is not the official Youtube channel of the XIM Company. I run this channel in my free time to bring you guys all the latest XIM news and tricks. So if you want to support what I do, then maybe consider to join the Youtube channel membership. Channel members usually get around one to four weeks of early access to all new videos. Plus we also have a nice little Discord to discuss XIM Settings and other stuff. But that’s about it for this video guys, thanks for watching and I will maybe see you in the next one.
