The school shootings have been on my mind lately. I wanted to give my opinion on it. To clarify, I think that this atrocious. It is a problem, but not with guns, but people. My problem is that gun control does not stop violence. It doesn't stop murder. In fact, it increases violent crime. In Australia after the ban on almost all guns mass shootings ended, correct. However, violent crime went up by 48%. Gun control does not stop shootings. Good people with guns do. The Maryland shooting from 3 days ago (21/3/18) was stopped by a citizen. Lets go over the gun control that didn't stop the shooting; the assault weapon ban (it was a handgun), the 10+ round magazine ban,  universal background check, the exhaustive application process to get a permit to buy a handgun,  the requirement of registration of handguns, licensing of handgun owners, ban of possession of gun for people under 21 (he was 17), laws against carrying with out a permit, gun free zones, laws against discharge of weapons in public, and against attempted murder. What did stop the shooting was a citizen with a gun, on scene, that responded in less than a minute.
Official FBI statistics state that at least 8 times as many crimes are stopped or prevented by guns than guns are used to commit violent crime.
A fact is that the US is the 3rd in the world for homicide. However, if we remove Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, and New Orleans, its 4th from the bottom. It should also be mentioned that these 4 cities have the toughest gun control laws in the nation.
I am scared of the tyranny of government. The UK is quickly become a totalitarian government. The people can do nothing to defend themselves. A man was arrested and put in prison for uploading a YouTube video where he taught his pug to salute in the same way as Hitler. (This is a very crude and low brow joke, but it shouldn't be a crime). You can't purchase a plastic butter knife without an ID proving you are older than 21, a plastic butter knife! People are being arrested and fined for posting their opinions online criticizing immigrant rape gangs because it's labeled as hate speech. The government has posters encouraging people to report other for owning a knife, giving their name and address. The government is encouraging women to give birth to disabled babies to harvest their organs! Many people can't criticize the government out of fear. And that is just the UK. Russia and China are so much worse.
Gun control isn't the answer. Not only does it not work, if we give up our guns, we give up not only our right to defend ourselves from others, but also from the tyranny of the government.
