Summary writing, paraphrasing and argumentative essay were included in the contents that were covered in my last few ENG101 classes and I've got a good grasp of them with my dedicated and hardworking instructor deserving all the credits. With the help of her, I've learnt how to extract the gist of a text by summary writing. Next, paraphrasing was taught which assists me to restate an article by my own words actively engaging me with the text and getting better understanding of it. Finally, she discussed techniques of argumentative essay enhancing not only my research and writing skills, but also my arguments by teaching how to think and write logically and coherently. For these reasons, I believe this learning would definitely help me in my future endeavors such as in my job or higher Studies.

  6. Being a computer science and engineering undergraduate student, in order to get my bachelor's degree I must write an thesis paper containing extensive research in my field of study. And all of the skills mentioned above can be applicable in the paper in a multitude of ways such as extracting main ideas, get a better understanding of a text and creating effective logical arguments free from fallacies. For example, lets start with summarizing: A thesis paper starts off with an abstract containing shortened version of the thesis itself; and in order to do so, what I would need is knowing how to write an effective summary of my thesis. Not only this, I would have to read a lot of texts to get all the information I need for my paper and what's a better way to fish out the important details other than summarizing them? Next up is paraphrasing. Paraphrasing is a vital part of summarizing so the same methods can be applied too. Furthermore, for research in my desired field, I would need a good understanding of them and paraphrasing itself checks that. In addition, it also gives me the freedom to write ideas in my own style with my own words giving my paper a sense of originality and creating flexibility in my writing. Argumentative essay comes in the last and in my opinion, it's probably the most useful skill for a thesis paper. To start off, writing any argumentative essay comes with the responsibility of knowing the topic thoroughly which itself requires extensive research in that particular matter. Coupled with that, one would need to examine huge piles of statistics or compile data to strengthen arguments for their essay. As a result, this will help me to master research skills such as finding authentic sources, summarizing relevant research and synthesizing data. Besides, I would also need to add counter arguments in my thesis paper and refute them, same as my argumentative essay. Since, they are needed for thesis paper as well, I can apply the skill there too. Hence argumentative essay writing is the most important skill to write my thesis paper and would greatly assist me in other papers as well. Given these points, I can say without any doubt that summary writing, paraphrasing and argumentative essay would let me write a quality paper; be it my undergraduate thesis paper, journal publications or even my PhD. paper as they contain relevant skills such as writing the summarized abstract, extracting main ideas, building up logical arguments and refuting counter arguments.

For my future career, these skills would help me to get into a better position as summary writing makes me to be concise and clear-cut, paraphrase aids my understanding of various tasks and lastly, argumentative essay lets me create strong and effective logical arguments to win over any conflict or dispute. To start with, I can use summarizing to organize main ideas and convey them effectively over a short time frame. I can also open and close any conversation with summarizing the key points of the discussion which would lead me to successful communications with my clients, co-workers and bosses. Communicating effectively is a must for a good career since it lets one to explain their thoughts in a easy to understand manner and it can land me promotions faster than others. Secondly, paraphrasing is a necessary skill for my job as it is not only an effective communication tool but also a powerful device as it allows me to get further understanding of others. gaining clarity of others' speech and at the last, encourages further dialogue leading to a better and natural flowing conversation. As a whole, these two skills would also let me excel in various parts of my job such as giving presentations, writing quotations and proposals etc. Thirdly, various conflicts can rise during my career; be it including me or between some of my co-workers and argumentative skills are a must to resolve these issues. Since it lets one to create strong and effective logical arguments, present them coherently and refute others' counter arguments, I can use it to resolve those conflicts and maintain a friendly atmosphere in my workplace. Furthermore, if I ever I need a salary raise I can use it to argue with my boss and when I become one myself, I can use this same very skill to refute my worker's claim of a raise. To conclude, all these topics covered in my last few ENG101 classes certainly have their usage in both my future academic and job endeavors by enhancing my writing skills and letting me communicate effectively during the span of my academic and job career.
