  1. 1. Ice3peak - Я целую твой труп
  2. Submitted by: Yen
  3. Comment: Since I am so bad with write-ups and making cohesive sentences, Imma try to explain why this song.
  4. I didn't listen to a lot of 2020 releases, if at all, (if I did, I'll find the most of 2020 releases in the night when I can't sleep and when this playlist passes or I expand myinterests and tastes) but witch house and soviet post punk have been the discoveries of 2020 for me. Of all Ic3peak songs, this one has been the most in random plays (thanks spotify). I don't particularly like it (too whiny) but I guess it (in actuality the whole album has) made its impact of reminding me of 2018 with family drama and inability to hold a job down and resulting depression combo. To not expand this needlessly further, it's been a lot of corpses to kiss.

  16. Comment: Does this make me look like a stan? I dunno what to tell you guys. I thought it was the best song of the year. Maybe I am a stan, who knows?

  26. 5. Dool - Sulphur & Starlight
  27. Submitted by: TripToTheDentist
  28. Comment: My song from the TOTY playlist was also my top song from 2020 buuuut I don't mind since I would have had a hard time choosing between some of favs of 2020 anyway.
  29.
  30. Dool, from the lovely Netherlands, released their second album "Summerland" last year with whom they really found their sound IMO. Sulphur & Starlight is my favourite on it and an absolute earworm. :relieved:
  31. And I wanna include my scrobble count anyway :madfluffer: I listened to Sulphur & Starlight 115 times in 2020. :flushedtunes:
  32.
  33. Ryanne van Dorst (singer, guitarist, songwriter) about the song:
  34. *“Sulphur & Starlight” is a song about dualism. The reflection and the reflected, two sides of the same mirror. What is left of one Self in the eye of the Other and vice versa? It is the opening track of “Summerland” and makes a great starting point for the journey through the album’s theme.’ *
  35.
  36. On a side note (probably more for the :kaas:-gang) their singer seems to be appear occasionally on Dutch TV? Maybe more known as Elle Bandita. Idk, I'm just repeating what I've read here: <https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryanne_van_Dorst>
  37. At the moment she seems to be driving through Dutch territory at night talking to people. <https://www.npo3.nl/nachtdieren/BV_101390941>
  38. So, if any of you depressed souls feelis like wandering at night..
  39. She seems like a cool & interesting person.

  44. 6. IC3PEAK - мкАД
  45. Submitted by: stefan
  46. Comment: This is only my 6th most scrobbled song of 2020, but the top 5 all weren't 2020 releases. (Well, technically, "People" by the 1975 and "Lilac" by Porridge Radio, which were my #2 and #3, were on 2020 albums, but both of them were singles released in 2019). IC3PEAK are probably one of my biggest discoveries in 2020, and they are my 4th most scrobbled artist of 2020. This is the song that got me into them, and even if I don't think it's their best track, it's still the one I end up coming back to most often, hence the plays.

  50. 7. Loathe - Screaming
  51. Submitted by: Pingaloo
  52. Comment: Let's be honest here, my SOTY is Sunmi - pporappippam.
  53.
  54. ...but you've heard it last week.
  55. So Imma please the gekko and submit Loathe, even though I've already put this server through the whole album. And tbh I wasn't sure which of the 5 songs I like the most from the album I should submit, so I went with the longest one, live with it :kek:
  56.
  57. Anyway, while I'd like to give the song a proper write up I also kinda don't. I already have for the album listening and don't really wanna unbury that stuff from last year atm.
  58.

  61. 8. Dreamcatcher - Scream
  62. Submitted by: Bargot
  63. Comment: so uh, this song is kinda tied with "la di da" by everglow as SOTY for me, but since la di da already got subbed once to a monthly playlist I figured I'd just sub this instead. Song is a big banger and one of the songs which got me more into kpop when I was just a rookie listener, and dreamcatcher is always a win.

  66.
  67. 9. Gezan - EXTACY
  68. Submitted by: halo
  69. Comment: EXTACY is my 16th most scrobbled song of 2020 but the second non-john-jagos track LMAO. I discovered Gezan in the summer while working through my backlog; I can't remember how they got on my list but I'm SO glad they did. Nothing else really quite hit like the weird noise rock of KLUE for me this year, and behind Brothertiger Paradise Lost (like... 2000 scrobbles behind Paradise Lost LOLL) it was my most played 2020 album. I got hooked on their sound and their aesthetic... we stan kings of fashion and WATER!! https://imgur.com/7AiSIOF
  70.
  71. You can read the lyrics to this track, as well as all the others on their bandcamp <https://jusangatsu.bandcamp.com/track/extacy>. I also highly suggest watching them perform live, it's really nutty and carlos ozaki on the didgeridoo has got to be my favourite live moment from a year I did not get to go to one concert... <https://youtu.be/cFfLkgJohrY>
  72.
  73. Also if anyone is good at finding downloads of hard to find albums I've been looking for Gezan - 凸-DECO- (2014) for like half the year with no luck 😭
  74.
  75. Some runners-up in case that interests you:
  76.
  77. Midwife - S.W.I.M.
  78. Choir Boy - Happy To Be Bad
  79. Hyukoh - New Born
  80. Young Jesus - (un)knowing
  81. Perfume Genius - Some Dream
  82. ... and, well, I could go on. just listen to KLUE please omg

  92. 11. GOT7 - I Mean It
  93. Submitted by: Chlo
  94. Comment: I struggle with themes such as song of the year, top of the year, best of the year and the like... since I don't believe that music can ever be inherently good or bad, and just because I like it doesn't mean that it's definitely good, vice versa. I always separate like and dislike from good and bad, which, the latter is subjective anyway. (Besides, one can always hate "good" music and love "bad" music!) And then comes the issue of picking a song that I think I like most, since I like so many anyway! Not only that, I have submitted a lot of my favourite songs to other playlists too, because, well. They're my favourite after all :p
  95.
  96. So, instead of overthinking (more than I probably already am) about it, I ended up submitting a song from my favourite artist (clearly) :flushedtunes: No, it's not one of my most scrobbled tracks, even for the artist, even for the album. But I thought it's just something a little bit sweet, a little bit fun, and just chill. 2020 has been one hell of a train wreck for me, and having a small constant comfort to go back to, music that I can rely on to cheer me up even if just a little... it means a lot to me. And GOT7 has been one such comfort. As awful as the year had been, I also want to remember the good things that happened, the times where I could sit back and smile, not just the times where I'm troubled. And that's why I picked this song.
  97.
  98. *Unfortunately, GOT7 is now, uh. NOT7. After a few years of mismanagement, GOT7 decided not to renew their contract, and they're no longer together as a group. But, I'm looking forward to see what they're going to bring and continue to support them!*
  99.
  100. Enjoy this sweet GOT7 song, from their latest, *and last,* release. :notalkmeangy:

  106. 12. Psychonaut 4 - Tbilisian Tragedy
  107. Submitted by: ek8455
  108. Comment: A masterclass in Depressive Black Metal. Psychonaut 4 are going from strength to strength, and last year's "Beautyfall" album is their finest work to date.

  112. 13. Mac Miller - Woods
  113. Submitted by: sprung
  114. Comment: 2020 was alright for me with music releases. Most releases were alright and good but nothing, except this album, really stood out.
  115. Mac Miller was working on this album during 2018 but sadly passed away before he could finish it. This album was released as a post mortem album and I instantly fell in love with it. I got almost 900 plays on it alone in the last year and I see no end to it because it has so h*cking awesome.
  116. Woods is my favourite track because it's just so chill and warm :flushedtunes:
  117.
  118.
  119.
  120. 14. Uboa - Inside/Outside
  121. Submitted by: deathconscious
  122. Comment: If I wasn't able to see who is submitting what, I would not think about it much and send in Loathe - Screaming. However of course I started overthinking because I subbed my actual SOTY to another playlist we had. So what else was there except Loathe and my SOTY?
  123. Deftones released the new album in 2020, maybe something from there...
  124. Well, I listened to it again, and somehow... I don't like it that much anymore?
  125. I do like The Spell of Mathematics but it's not SOTY-worthy imho.
  126. Not thinking much I went in to listen to Loathe and maybe sub another track from this release, was thinking of "Is It Really You?".
  127. After a while, I actually realized I didn't submit my actual SOTY to either monthly/yearly playlist, so here it goes.
  128. Or maybe I did? I don't remember but I don't care anymore, I love this song. I wish I could say I relate to the lyrics but I don't. I do like it for the emotions expressed in it, for the synthwork, and how well it mixes with the noise. I absolutely love that EP.
  129.
  130. 2020 has been somewhat okay in terms of new releases, though nothing mind-blowing came out. I've been obsessed with Nicole who didn't release anything during that year, Deftones came through with a rather okay album that does not have too big of highlights (all tracks seem to hold a steady high level), Loathe was pretty good, Hatari released in January 2020 and I didn't think about it, and Uboa only released an EP. Either way that did not stop me from spamming that release which is my favourite of the year, however does not qualify for AOTY. That title would have to go to Loathe's ILII&ITE.
  131.
  132. Whatever goes, I'm looking forward to new releases in 2021, so far Suffocate For Fuck Sake announced new album "Fyra" and Nicole Dollanganger is supposed to release something new as well. That's exciting enough :hype:

  135. 15. DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ - Right Now
  136. Submitted by: mothy
  137. Comment: The album Charmed by DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ is one of my favorite discoveries & releases from 2020, y'all know I love my whinecore and depressive raps but I like some feel-good music from time to time too, and Sabrina makes some of the most pleasant & funkiest outsider house music there is.
