  3. It was fifteen years ago, back when I was staying at my mom's farmhouse. We found you in the middle of a crop circle one day, eyes like diamonds, skin like black chitin. We were good Christian folk back then. We brought you back, fixed you up. Watched as you learned to walk, learned to walk, learned to pass. When you cracked your shell, my brother mended it with epoxy. When I broke my leg running around on the roof, you poured your blood on it and I was walking by the next dawn.

  5. I left home two years ago. I watched as my mother and my brothers and my sister turned into...less Christian folk. The kind of folk who'd lean into xenophobia to feel safe in a changing world. And when I challenged their newfound politics, they kicked me out. So now I'm looking for you, diamond eyes. If your blood can fix a broken leg, maybe it can fix other things that are broken.
