  1. Story time how the wrong warp was discovered!
  2.
  3. ArneTheGreat was a TASer of the game who made both an any% and 101% TAS. He inspired me to start running/TASing the game as well and we eventually started to talk about, both being Swedes. We were doing a lot of fooling around the game for glitch hunting and to just entertain ourself.
  4.
  5. One day, around Summer 2010 I believe, we were playing Elevator Antics, level 5-3. The Invisible Barrel glitch was previously known and we a bit of fun with it. Because of the glitch's nature, it's easy to accidentally crash the game, this happens if you would load the elevator spawning zone "into the barrel". We then put up a challenge who could make it the furthest into the level without this crash occuring. I eventually won and reach the end of the stage. I then decided to throw the barrel and entered the bonus at the end and once I beat it, I was warped to the first level in the game.
  6.
  7. This stumped us both. A warp to World 1 was already known to be possible, as it can easily be done in the first bonus of Temple Tempest, 3-4, by simply running straight into the Necky with Diddy Kong, or in the second bonus of the same level by doing a frame perfect roll into the Klap Trap. Both of these happen because you take damage before the bonus hasn't fully loaded yet. Though this new warp was something new.

  9. Arne instantly went to work to understand why this happens. He looked up the values for all the entrances/exits in the game and noticed that the Invisible Barrel was able to modify it and how. Then he calculated every possible warp that could occur with this setup and made a document for all of these. The fastest was to drop-open a bonus with Donkey Kong that would then take you to Torchlight Trouble, 4-4. I instantly started working on such TAS that did this warp from the first level, to Torchlight and then beat the game. It was finished in October 10 with a time of 16:22.

  11. A couple of months later, in February 2011, I was taking a walk outside while talking to Arne on the phone. He decided to take another look at the Wrong Warps. He calculated that if it would be possible to exit the bonus with two Kongs on the same frame, using the Split Up glitch, it would give a different warp value. The problem is that we then need a bonus that has a DK barrel in it, which is quite rare. The first that came to mind was Millstone Mayhem, 2-5. The problem there is that you get the DK barrel at the top of the stage by shooting you out of a barrel and the only frame you can exit with both Kongs occurs when you break the barrel.
  12.
  13. Then I thought of Orang-utan Gang, 3-5. There it is hidden under the ground and we can then pick it up and throw and thus exit on the time frame. Though another problem: We need to reach the bonus while carrying an invisible barrel, but there is a huge gap we have to cross which can not be done while holding something. Luckily: There is an Expresso in the level and we already knew about the glitch to carry a barrel on an animal buddy. Arne tested it and it worked! The warp now took us to Manic Mincers, 6-2. It's even more convenient that the only bonus in the game where you can set up this warp, just so happens to be the level which you can warp to directly after completing the first level! Insane!
  14.
  15. I started working on a new TAS March 1st and it was finished and uploaded on April 1st 2011 at TASVideos, disguising it as a joke submission, cutting the previous run by half to a 8:13. And there you have it =).
