  1. For Honors Beginner guide for when you already have the game*
  2. I combined mine and anons guides to make it better*
  3.
  4.
  5. >What should i do when i boot up the game first time?
  6. 1. Choose your faction:
  7. Knights - leddit tier retards that put everything on a vulcano on the map so you wont win ever unless devs rig Faction War again
  8. Vikings - they win everything because they actually put assets manually and care about the Faction War
  9. Samurai - weebs that dont care about Faction War that much so they lose too
  10. -If you just want to win shit then go to Vikings.
  11. -Faction affects the shape of your emblem.
  12. >Can i still play heroes from other factions if i pick my faction?
  13. Yes, you can play any hero regardles of your faction as long as you own them.
  14. >What if i want to change my faction?
  15. If you change your faction during a season you wont get any reward that season, change it in preseason if you dont want any penalty.
  16. >Why is Faction War even important?
  17. You get more and better rewards for winning it but every single faction gets some rewards.
  18. >Why is there no Wu Lin on the map?
  19. Devs said they will be but they are not so i dont know why.
  20.
  21. 2. After picking your faction:
  22. -Finish Apprentice and Warrior trials. Beat both on all A-Rank to get two ornaments if you want them. If you ever need to brush up on a mechanic, dont be afraid to return to these.
  23. -Story mode is in typical Ubisoft fashion, piss easy. Play the game on realistic and there are under 5 enemy/bosses in the entire campaign that should give you any modicom of trouble (all of which have some 'creative' way to get around; whether that be guaranteed damage items from much earlier in the level or just simple AI abuse - think outside of the box). Also, see the OP collectables guide beforehand for all the viewpoints and collectables-even if you want to go in blind there's an alternate varient that gives you a short list of hints. Doing this will net you 10k Steel, 10 Gear crates along with a Headpiece+Embossing (Higher quality, shadowed armour decals) for each Hero.
  24. -If you dont want to play it on realistic/its too hard then dont.
  25. -Once you finishing story mode go into Club Rewards in uPlay (if youre in game hit shift+f2) and claim a free effects, symbols and ton of other things.
  26.
  27. 3. Story mode and trials done:
  28. -Pick a hero. Base heroes are 500 steel (assuming you got at least standard (not starter) edition) but you dont need to pay the 500 to play them, its just to be able to customize them. DLC characters are either 10k or 15k.
  29. -Picking one of base heroes to start the game is a good choice but remember that characters in story mode are way different now because they didnt update them in story mode and you had no chance to play some, Berserker for example.
  30. -If you picked a hero then go into training arena and do every single of their moves at least once to get understanding of the choosen hero and what hes able to do and how it plays.
  31. -Theres 2 ways to understand the game, sticking to one hero (i personally prefer this way) and using a lot of heroes. Using a lot of heroes can confuse you but you will be able to counter them easier simply because you know what they are capable of. Picking one hero and sticking to it for a while will help you understand everything without the mishmash. I personally would pick one hero, stick to it and if i had any problems fighting some hero then i would jump into Training arena and fuck around with the hero im losing to, to be able to see all his moves and how to counter them. You can ask in the general too.
  32. -LEARN ALL OF YOUR PUNISHES BEFORE YOU GO INTO MULTIPLAYER. See Information Hub in the OP.
  33.
  34. 4. Going into multiplayer
  35. -If you already got understanding of your hero you can go into multiplayer but first get orders down. These are small quests that reward you with steel and xp. There are daily orders and contracts that are refreshed every 48 hours. You can do them vs real people, vs bots with other people in your team or completelty with bots in your team and vs bots.
  36. -Popularity goes Dominion>Breach>Duel, rest is almost dead. Ignore the Faction War for now, your assets are deployed automatically if you do not place them yourself.
  37.
  38. 5. How to not be a dead weight in game modes
  39. -Dominion - stand on one point, either your home point or enemys home point. When you boost a point (standing on it and theres no enemy champion on it) you double the points gain (from +1 to +2) and gain passive renown for unlocking feats. Defend it if someone comes, if they are ganking you (1vx x=/=1) and you are sure you will die then you can run away to the other point and boost it, dying is always bad but you can just try and fight them. Defending a point gives bonus renown.
  40. -Breach - if you are on the attacking side then just walk with your ram and kill pikemen that come to you, walking with ram doubles its speed when theres no enemy or enemy pikemen nerby and boosting a ram when its taking down the gate makes it 15 seconds per strike instead of 45 seconds. If you are defending then run to point one, kill enemies there if its not a death sentence (ie youre 1 against 2-4 enemies) and then go to ram, you can roam between ram and points if you see your mates in need of help but staying with the ram and killing minions is great. Once ram is at the gate you can use a cauldron on the point above it to deal damage to it. 3 minutes after the game starts and 3 minutes after first gate is taken a banner will spawn (27 minute for first banner) that gives a shield either to ram or gate depending on which side delivers it, after delivering the banner first time it will spawn after each 4 minutes In phase three stay with your team and kill the Lord, you can take archer points and then kill enemy minions to distract it since it attacks your minions first, using a balista is a good way too. EQUIP THE FASTEST EXECUTION OF YOUR HERO FOR BREACH, EXPECIALLY IF YOURE A DEFENDER. It denies respawns so attackers lose a ticket.
  41. -Duel - just kill the enemy and thats it, its best of 5 so you need 3 wins to win a duel
  42. -I wont talk about other modes here because they are almost not played.
  43.
  44. 6. Classes of heroes
  45. -The following is not a Walkthrough, it's a guide. Don't bitch that "this one interaction don't work so it all dont work". All heroes can do anything and everything to a degree, this is just what you should expect going into each category. There are more detailed guides in the OP Info Hub and on Jewtube (though make sure that for the latter, it's someone who knows what the fuck they're on about)
  46.
  47. >TANK
  48. -Heavies
  49. -Usually occupy midlane and walk with the Ram
  50. -Characteristically slower, lower overall DPS but higher disruption
  51. -Some form of minion clearence with wide, spammable attacks and (mandatory) has selfheal/sustain
  52. -Generally spec into Tanky passives (Regen etc) to keep themselves alive on their own
  53.
  54. >FLANK
  55. -DPS's ('Vanguards')
  56. -Usually occupy the Side landes (A/C point) and go for the Zones before assisting the Ram
  57. -Characteristically higher damage, acccess to some disruption
  58. -Generally spec into ranged/projectiles to deal with incoming targets and help out other points
  59.
  60. >GANK
  61. -Assassins
  62. -Attack and assist on all 3 lanes where appropriate and play the side objecitves (Flags, Ballista etc)
  63. -Characterisitcally fast, dodge-y and have lower damage in exchange for bonus effects (Bleed, Hyper Armour etc)
  64. -Generally spec into actives to buff themselves up before attacking
  65.
  66. -Hybreds are all mixtures of two of the above. (this needs a bit of changing)
  67.
  68. 7. Customization & What are perks
  69. -DO NOT OPEN ANY CRATES UNTIL REPUTATION 8. THEYRE RARE AS FUCK AND YOULL BE WASTING THEM. Use them to get rolls as you go for the final perk combo/s of your choice.
  70. -Do not fucking touch the armour customisation system if youve just started (change your colour/abilities all you want, sure, just leave the armour itself)
  71. -Perks are essentially mini-feats.
  72. -You need 600 points in a perk to activate it. Anything more wont do anything, anything less and it wont activate.
  73. -You can have up to 3 perks active at the same time but it depends on their combination.
  74. -To understand more about perks refer to Perks Guide in OP.
  75. -Executions are important because they deny respawns. Make sure to have your 'fast' execution bound to your instinctual button/key of the two and your 'style' execution bound to the latter. If you don't understand, refer to the Exection guide in the OP for in-depth data on death, true death, heal and utility values/timings for all executions.
  76. -Effects, executions, outfits, ornaments etc. are up to you, if you like it - buy it.
  77. -If you unlock an effect for Idle you wont be able to use it anywhere else (execution, emote, combat emote). If you buy an outfit that unlocks an effect for every category than it will unlock the effect for every option. (There are usually 15-25k of steel, not including any sale)
  78.
  79. 8. Feats
  80. -Try to keep active feats on when needed. For example, using a Smoke Bomb or Fire Flask to assist in clearing a minion wave is a perfectly fine tactic. If you've got it, use it. Ideally you want feats to be charging up more than not charging at all.
  81. -Many buff values are not given and can be deceivingly high or low. One good example of this is the difference betweem the miniscule Deadly (118% for 3s after a hit) or the game swinging Morale Booster (teamwide 150% for 30s) - both are simply labelled as attacks dealing more damage. Check feat values and your heroes general meta setups beforehand to avoid making such mistakes (check Feats Guide in OP).
  82. -Many feats have secondary, equally potent uses. Arrow/Spear Storm deals considerable damage to the Ram on breach; Healing Banner can heal the Commander too. Ranged feats (Crossbow, Long Bow, Throwing Axe etc) can not only be used to catch low health enemies; but can maintain pressure while out of stamina. Think outside of the box, and don't in any way think you're wasting them.
  83.
  84. 9. Jewbisoft is trying to sell me shit, what do?
  85. -Buying Steel is a scam.
  86. -Year Pass is a scam, but the least scammy scam compared to the above. If you're gonna get it, wait for a sale, though it's value inherantly decreases every day so take that into account yourself.
  87. -Marching Fire exapansion is questionable. It unlocks the 4 Chinese heroes for you (saving you 40k steel) and is the ONLY way to unlock the Arcade, which you'll either love or hate. The Arcade itself is a bonus mode which computer-generates stuff for you to do, and can net you a few things such as effects (be aware that the Arcade is not forgiving. It is a *challenge* mode by the definition of the word). If you're gonna get it, don't buy any of the Wu Lin beforehand and either wait for a sale or just buy it upfront.
  88. -Year 3 bundle is also questionable, it will unlock 4 new heroes (as of time of writting this Black Prior is already out) saving you 60k of steel and grant you access to any new hero of that bundle a week before others, give you new effect that can be unlocked only by buying the bundle and grant you 30 days of Champion Status and 5 Scavenger Crates.
  89. -CHAMPION STATUS DOESNT GIVE YOU ANY STEEL GAIN BONUS. Champion Status is of negligable value. If you plan on spending the next three days grinding out some For Honor multiplayer, you can make back your some reasonable gain for that payment (you won't make that much Steel, but provided you get all your Orders done you'll roughly break even and get the bonus EXP/loot on top). Otherwise it's a scam. Saving up your loot is a good idea beforehand, since you get increased breakdown rates while it's active.
  90.
  91. 10. Settings
  92. -UI customisation is mostly to your own tastes, but setting Fight to Minimal and turnng off the Quick Chat Button is a nice way to trim fat. Another choice to make is the minimap-it takes up a disproportionate part of the screen, for the ability to see most enemies coming behind you. If you don't use it, turn it off-if you find your anus sore from suprise buttsecks, keep it on and try to utilise it for its' cost.
  93. -Rotate the circle in fight controls a bit if you're using a controller. Your hands won't be perpendicular to the stick, it'll feel more natural. Alter everything else to your tastes.
  94. -Another tip for controller players is to try to ensure all your active buttons are reachable without moving your hands. Setting Left bumper to guard break, Left Stick button to dodge and Right Stick button to sprint is one way to do this-though you should always map a layout that you personally feel comfortable with.
  95. -If you play on keyboard+mouse bind Zone Attack and Guard Break to mouse buttons if possible.
  96.
  97. 11. Fighting
  98. -Stop rolling around like it's Dark Souls.
  99. -Guard Breaks arent fucking op, learn every single basic mechanic. (The ones from trials)
  100. -Your attacks still disrupt and hurt your own team. Don't fucking spam your zone attacks near them, it's annoying.
  101. -DO NOT INTERRUPT TEAMMATES PUNISHES. If you, for example, see a Centurion get a Guard Break into wallsplat dont just fucking light attack the enemy, you will be able to deal damage at the end of your mates punish.
  102. -A 2v1 doesn't guarantee a kill. In many cases, trying to gang up on someone will just build their Revenge meter for free and make the whole situation worse as you fuck with your teammates timings and give your enemy a buff. Let them both fight and only watch for openings to punish.
  103. -With the exception of parries, every action in the game has a delay/windup. Switching stances, starting attacks, dodging and more - you can't rely on reaction times all the time. You'll need a slight amount of prediction on top of that.
  104.
  105. 12. Gamesense
  106. -Dying a lot? Buddy up with a teammate - as long as you know your boundaries it should keep you alive longer.
  107. -Enemy has formed an unstoppable 4-man ball of death? Is your current preferred objective occupied by said Deathball? Feel free to take uncontested objectives (whatever it may be) and backcap points even if you wouldn't usually gopher them. Even if your entire team keeps trickling into the grinder, as long as the entire enemy team is distracted it just means that you can take their objectives for nigh free.
  108. -On the other hand, don't just walk into your death. Ganktraps and general deathball rotation isn't hard to predict, provided you have your brain turned on en-route to your objective.
  109. -More times than not, regrouping or rezzing teammates is more valuable and reliable than ganking a low hp target (because that gank initiate can often lead to their entire team finally showing up from their rotate and giving you a 3v1 deepdick). Rezzes are naturally more valuable too since it cuts down overall team downtime.
  110. -Likewise, it's sometimes more beneficial to wait and see the outcome of a fight before respawning. Not only does it mean you have the chance to be rezzed if your guys win, but even if they lose it means you won't trickle in as much.
  111. -Want to bait an enemy into rushing an engagement? Start rezzing a teammate or clearing minions with your back turned to them and your camera watching them. If they take the bait, you will usually get the jump on them.
  112. -Running to a zone? Check if it's accelerated/going at +2 while you're on your way. If it is, somebody is waiting for you there.
  113. -The best way to win in For Honor is to have No Honor. Playing fair wont net you brownie points. The AI can be abused, cheap moves make up the meta and environmental kills are instant 100% executions. Even if you want to play fair, remember that basically everybody else isn't.
  114. -Some matches are straight up unwinnable but dont just give up when youre losing, you can do a comeback in no time.
  115.
  116. 13. I'VE PLAYED THIS GAME FOR HOURS NOW AND I STILL FEEL LIKE I'M SHIT. WHY?
  117. The usual factor to this is wider understanding and gamesense. Sure you might have figured out your favourite hero, mastered their combos and feints and worked with all their maximum punishes (which is a priority if you haven't already - keep it open in another tab/on another screen while you play) but what about everybody else? As with every other fighting game (don't forget For Honor is indeed a fighting game first and foremost) the key mastery is not just knowing your own hero, but everybody elses. The same way you can't win at Mortal Kombat by just knowing everything about Sub Zero, your opponent will guaranteed make up 50% of each 1v1.
  118.
  119. -Do you know what you should expect from a Lawbringers maximum punish off of a Guardbreak? Can you survive it, is it worth investing in the fight or backing away afterwards?
  120. -Have you got the timing down for an Orochi's Heavy mixup?
  121. -Can you parry a Highlanders back light?
  122. -What should you do and be wary of if a Nobushi is supporting your enemy in a 1v2?
  123. -What feat should you be wary of being active if the enemy has a Warden on their team?
  124. -Do you know the three perks that a Shaman will probably be running?
  125. -Do you know which lane you should expect a Jiang Jun to occupy-and if it's the same lane as you can you tell what his locked and sprinting initiates are, and from what directions they are going to be from?
  126.
  127. Again, you might know yourself-but until you know your enemy you'll struggle in most matchups. This is just a case of experience-the more you play, the more you'll learn these things. Take solace in the fact that the guy who is beating you by just lightspamming now will not be learning this, and will get a brutal shock when everybody around him starts gitting gud, while he mashed the same attack again and again-forcing him to start from scratch.
  128.
