- Pauli Exclusion Principle - no two electrons in an atom can have the same values for all 4 of their quantum numbers
- paramagnetic - the weak magnetism of a substance whose atoms, molecules, or ions have unpaired electrons
- diamagnetic - the condition of not being capable of being attracted to a magnet
- Hund's Rule - Electrons that occupy orbitals of equal energy are distributed with unpaired spins as much as possible among all such orbitals
- Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle - It is impossible to know both velocity and location of an electron
- effective nuclear charge - net positive charge an outer electron experiences as a result of partial screening of the full nuclear charge by core electrons
- ionization energy - the energy needed to remove an electron from an isolated gaseous atom, ion, or molecule
- electron affinity - energy change that occurs when an electron adds to an isolated gaseous atom or ion
