  1. My father was an Eagle Scout, and his father was an Eagle Scout, so regardless of whether or not I enjoyed scouting, it was going to be a part of my childhood. Luckily, I loved it every bit as much as they did. I loved the annual summer trips to Resica Falls Scout Reservation, the two week hiking trek at Philmont Scout Ranch, and that Boy Scouts taught me how to survive in the wild. But more importantly, I appreciated that Boy Scouts is not just about developing outdoor skills, it is about developing people. It is about giving back to the community through Eagle Scout projects. It is about, as we were reminded each meeting, keeping ourselves physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. Every week I interacted with dozens of people who led their lives by these principles. And Boy Scouts taught me to live by them, too.
