  1. It was a beautiful day when a young couple, a witch and a wizard, arrived at the wizard's childhood home, still being taken care of by his parents.
  2.
  3. "I can't believe I am actually getting nervous." Said the witch with messy brown hair that had a striking patch of copper. She laughed lightly, as if to ward off her fears of meeting her very own wizard's parents.
  4.
  5. "Everything will go well, there is nothing to be nervous about." The wizard in question said confidently, with a voice that melted away the witch's insecurities.
  6.
  7. He put his hand on her cheeks, and felt her face radiating warmth. She put her hands on top of his hands, and smiled as the two gazed in eachother's eyes for a moment that lasted an eternity, or so it felt, for him. everytime he looked her in her beautiful violet eyes, he felt time slowing down, as he drowned in all the different shades.
  8.
  9. Her eyes were magical, he had always known. Unique in all the world, only her eyes made him feel that way and he was the only one who she gazed like that.
  10.
  11. The two kissed gently before they walked trough the wooden gate and into the yard that housed many happy memories for the wizard, they stopped every now and then when the wizard had something to point out to the giggling witch he had brought with him.
  12.
  13. The two knocked on the door, his parents weren't expecting them, they hadn't told them. They wanted to surprise them.
  14.
  15. His mother opened the door, and her eyes got wider when she saw her son had returned. She had heard all the rumors that happened in Hogwarts, with vaults and curses.
  16.
  17. He only sent her a letter that said he needed time to do soul-searching, asked for her and his father's understanding. That recent events put a stress on him.
  18.
  19. But now, he was back, his mother embraced him, and saw that he brought with him a pretty girl, a brilliant witch he had written her many times about.
  20.
  21. The witch blushed as the wizard's mother doted over her, noting that she was a pretty little thing.
  22.
  23. "Come in, come in, I'll get your father, he's been worried sick about you." The young wizard's mother pulled the couple in.
  24.
  25. They walked into the living room where the wizard's father was sitting on a recliner, he immediately got up and grabbed his son's shoulders. "My goodness, boy, I am glad to see you." He then turned to look at the young witch his son had brought. "You must be Merula." He said formally.
  26.
  27. "Yes, sir..." She said shyly and looked down and at the walls where there were pictures of him, as a child. She kept her hands behind her back and rocked her shoulders back and forth.
  28.
  29. "Oh, that won't do, no need to be nervous, we've heard all about you." The older wizard said to the young witch and embraced her and his son. "Welcome, make yourselves at home."
  30.
  31. They all sat at a dining table, the parents on one side and the young wizard and his witch on the other.
  32.
  33. The father spoke first. "We got your letter and got worried, we had heard the rumours and whatever happened with Jacob... Well, we're happy you two are okay."
  34.
  35. The mother smiled warmly. "I knew you were alright... Where did you go after Hogwarts?"
  36.
  37. "We went on a journey across europe, we both knew we had to drift. School was stressful and we weren't ready for this life." The wizard said and held the witch's hand under the table. "We had to do some soul-searching, and.. Well..."
  38.
  39. The two put their hands on the table together, showing off their rings. "We found what we were looking for, our souls belong together."
  40.
  41. The mother gasped loudly and tried to stifle a scream, tears filling her eyes. And the father smiled albeit a little disappointed.
  42.
  43. "You ran off and went and got married without your parents present..." The older wizard said, but he was smiling.
  44.
  45. "I am sorry, we were in France when we decided, we already belonged to each other, but we wanted to make it official right then and there... On our escape." The young wizard smiled.
  46.
  47. "How romantic, oh we don't mind, we were never a family of traditions. I will go make us tea." his mother said.
  48.
  49. "I'll come with you, I'd love to get to know you better." The violet-eyed witch said smiling brightly.
  50.
  51. The two witches giggled in the kitchen. "He likes his tea sweet, I like to make him a cup every day." Said the new wife.
  52.
  53. "Oh, he has always been like that..." Said the mother gently. "He was ridiculed for it by his brother and his friends, so he stopped putting sugar in his tea, but I always put it in for him when I brought him a cup." The elder witch reminisced looking at a smiling picture of her son as a young boy.
  54.
  55. "He was a cute child." The young wife said, smiling at the picture.
  56.
  57. "Oh, we can look at pictures later."
  58.
  59. The two witches returned with a large pot of tea and cups as the father and son were discussing where in France the young couple got married in.
  60.
  61. "It was a small muggle town... Lovely in it's way." The wizard was explaining to his father.
  62.
  63. The young witch sat next to her husband and rested her head on his shoulder.
  64.
  65. "Oh, there was that unfortunate bit of news that came from France not long ago..." The mother said a bit concerned. "Did you hear anything while you were there?"
  66.
  67. "We did."
  68.
  69. "What was that town called..? That you got married in?" Asked the father the recenly-wed couple.
  70.
  71. "It doesn't have a name anymore." his son answered.
  72.
  73. "Anton..." Said the older witch and looked at her husband fearfully.
  74.
  75. The younger witch had closed her eyes while she was leaning on her husband's shoulder, she was smiling. "There were beautiful lights and celebration at our wedding."
  76.
  77. The older wizard turned pale, his gray beard started twitching as he was trying to make sense of the revelation. His first instinct was that this was an elaborate prank, but it would be too cruel.
  78.
  79. "What have you done?" He asked looking at his son and daughter-in-law.
  80.
  81. "The truth, you want to know then? Look deep." The wizard said and looked at his father straight in the eyes determined.
  82.
  83. The older wizard tensed up, he had been forced to read into many minds, but he never thought he would have to seriously intrude his own son's mind. He feared the answer.
  84.
  85. What he saw in his son's mind was painful.
  86.
  87. He looked at a memory, a hazy one filled with details one can't quite recall, so it all just turns gray and frightful.
  88.
  89. "Merula." called a woman "...Merula, where are you?"
  90. "I'm here, mommy." A child answered. "I'm afraid."
  91. There was a banging noise on the door and a shout, a male voice... "...Take Merula and go, they're rounding us all up, take her to Malfoy's or..."
  92. Crashing sound, the house was invaded by a squad of aurors.
  93. "Take Merula and go now! Say you were imperiused!"
  94. The girl started crying, confused as details of the memory turned more frightful and traumatic.
  95.
  96. The young girl sat on her bed, the house was full of strangers.
  97. "Interrogate the girl, see if she knows something..."
  98. "I hate doing legilimency on children..." said a familiar voice.
  99.
  100. His own voice...
  101.
  102. The father pulled back from the memories of his son, face pale as a sheet. "How do you have..." He looked at his daughter-in-law frightened. "How do you have her memories..?"
  103.
  104. "Anton, what is going on?" The mother asked terrified. "Anon, what is he talking about?"
  105.
  106. "Look again, father." The wizard said.
  107.
  108. The witch that leaned on him had opened her eyes and smiled at the terrified old man.
  109.
  110. The old legilimens instead peered into his daughter-in-law's mind, but was repelled completely.
  111.
  112. "You only saw those memories, because we let you." Said the wizard to his father. "Look into my mind again."
  113.
  114. The older man had never seen anything like this, he peered again into his son's mind, but he realized the witch was repelling his attempts to intrude.
  115.
  116. "Looks like I am better at occlumency than you, dearest." The violet-eyed witch said smiling warmly.
  117.
  118. "What is going on, what are you, what have you done...?"
  119.
  120. "Our souls are one and our minds too. We didn't come here to visit you because we wanted you to know we got married, we came here because you were powerful at legilimency."
  121.
  122. "To test our connection." The young witch said. "Oh, don't think this is about getting revenge on my parents either..."
  123.
  124. "You..." The old wizard said. "You were a child... But I had to do it because of your parent's connections."
  125.
  126. "You also used that memory you saw to convince that my parents worked out of free will." The witch said smiling. "But I don't blame you, my parents were fools."
  127.
  128. The mother was staring at her son unable to say a word, but when she heard her husband was responsible for sending her daughter-in-law's parents to Azkaban, she started babbling about it not being possible. "Anton, tell me she is lying... Anton, you didn't interrogate a child."
  129.
  130. The old man looked at the table regretfully, his greatest sin was to lie to his wife and to his son, even after he got all those letters describing his son's friendship with Merula, he welcomed the two into his house with a smile...
  131.
  132. "Don't look so glum, father." The young witch said to her father-in-law. "I already told you this wasn't about my parents, look into my mind and see that I am telling the truth." she started laughing
  133.
  134. The wizard sitting next to her started smiling an evil smile. "Thanks to you, we know that legilimency from an actual ministry interrogator can not penetrate our defenses, our connection is too strong."
  135.
  136. "Anon... Merula, please listen..." The broken old man said to them.
  137.
  138. "No, we will not." The son said and got up, he had his wand out. "She told the truth when she said this wasn't about revenge, it is her genuine feelings."
  139.
  140. The old man looked at his son. "...What?"
  141.
  142. "But I will not forgive you." The wizard said pointing his wand at his father. "Avada Kedavra..."
