  1. MY LITTLE JOJO: STANDS ARE MAGIC
  2. CHAPTER 16: THAT NIGHT, UNDER A STARLIT SKY PART 1
  3. OPEN THE GAME!
  4.
  5. >Well, this is stupid
  6. >Stuck in the clink with some dumbass who won't stop whining like a bitch
  7. >And his brother who's not even trying to stop the unending tide of bitching
  8. "Wouldja quit bein' such a baby? Gettin' thrown in jail ain't the end o' the world, ya know."
  9. >F -"Says you! I've never been in jail! Who knows what sort of horrors my brother and I might face?!"
  10. "Ugh, we ain't in some maximum security prison, just some holding cells! You think the bad shit happens HERE?"
  11. >F -"And how would YOU know that?"
  12. >*CLANG*
  13. >"Keep it down in there!"
  14. >A hush falls over you three as the guardpony seated in a chair near the cell whacks the bars with her nightstick
  15. >Well, at least his babblin' stopped
  16. >You try your best to get comfortable on your bench in the cell
  17. >The silence that follows is heaven compared to just a few minutes before
  18. >F -"You're trying to sleep? Here?"
  19. >*sigh* It was fun while it lasted
  20. "Better out here than in the cold."
  21. >A few minutes pass with more of that sweet, sweet nothing before-
  22. >F -"Welp, I'm done being stuck in here. We're breaking out."
  23. "We?"
  24. >F -"Yes, we. Would you rather be stuck in here?"
  25. >You turn to face him
  26. "Yeah. A roof to sleep under, three square meals a day while we're here? Better than outside, trying to scavenge what ya can."
  27. >F -"You sound like you know what you're talking about."
  28. "Well, ain't you a Perceptive Perry?"
  29. >He backs off from questioning further, rubbing his arm like you hit it
  30. >Oh, NOW yer feeling remorseful
  31. >...
  32. >...
  33. >'Kay, now the silence is more awkward than heavenly
  34. "So, uh... who are you two?"
  35. >F -"Excuse me?"
  36. "I asked WHO ARE YOU TWO?"
  37. >He reels
  38. >F -"Eesh, no need to yell."
  39. >He clears his throat
  40. >F -"We are Toccata and Fugue Mignore, son of the late Father Diatoni Mignore of the Manehattan Church and Choir of Luna."
  41. >Wait...
  42. >Church?
  43. "She has a church?"
  44. >He gives a sigh like he's heard that line a thousand times and then some
  45. >F -"Yes. Though you might be one of the only ponies who knows it's a church. At this point it's basically just a choir service."
  46. >T -"No one ever comes to pray, considering how... unpopular she became after her banishment."
  47. >F -"So at this point, it's basically just a choir service. And the only thing left of our father's legacy."
  48. >T -"We've been trying to keep it together but..."
  49. >F -"No one really needs a choir service. And this was... basically the only shot to really keep the thing going."
  50. >So they were willing to kill a pony to keep their dad's church going?
  51. "Seems like an odd way to get money. How desperate were you? Couldn't you just get a normal job?"
  52. >F -"You think we didn't? It was a drain."
  53. >Things went quiet for a few seconds before he spoke back up
  54. >F -"What about you?"
  55. "Huh?"
  56. >F -"You. Who are you?"
  57. "Not much to tell. Lived on the streets most of my life. Figured it'd be a good way to get some quick bits."
  58. >F -"And YOU couldn't just get a normal job?"
  59. "Shut up."
  60. >It's not that you couldn't
  61. >You could totally get a job
  62. >It's just...
  63. >Shut up
  64. >F -"So, rather than take the opportunity of killing the ponies we've been contracted to kill and getting the money, you'd rather just bum around again?"
  65. >...
  66. "Good point."
  67. >You summon your Stand, slinking over to the nearby guard and grabbing a key ring from her back pocket
  68. >After testing each key, you find the right one and unlock the cell door
  69. >Just as you step out-
  70. >F -"*whisper* What? You're just going to step out and leave?"
  71. "You think this place has any actual security?"
  72. >F -"I'm pretty sure they'd increase security for Stand Users."
  73. >He's not wrong
  74. "So what do we do?"
  75. >A podium of white roots pops up from the ground, and he touches your foreleg, leaving an odd mark on it
  76. "What in tartarus? What's this?"
  77. >F -"It's a part of my Stand. With it, I'll be able to see things from your perspective, maybe help you point out things you miss."
  78. >Oooookay, whatever
  79. >Stepping as lightly as possible, you sneak your way through the building
  80. >If you remember correctly, this entire building is circular, and the holding cells are near the back, furthest from the entrance
  81. >YOU could easily sneak your way out, but...
  82. >What about the other two?
  83. >Hmmm...
  84. >You look around for any sort of thing you could use to cover more than one pony
  85. >Each of the nearby rooms are all different offices, none of which hold what you need
  86. >The next room you enter is some sort of office supply closet
  87. >Markers, staplers, a corkboard with a bunch of sticky notes and tacked on papers
  88. >"Feeling that corkboard were something that no pony could ever live without, Wooden Bit grabbed the one off the wall."
  89. >What are you ge-
  90. >Oh
  91. >Fugue, you brilliant son of a bitch!
  92. >Grabbing the board and using your Stand on it, you bring it back to the cell
  93. >With an easier way to escort another pony, you bring Toccata along (since Fugue still needs to keep watch with his Stand) and walk behind the corkboard against the wall
  94. >This makes the whole ride a lot smoother, and you both make it to the front of the building
  95. >The only things standing between you and freedom were a group of guards stationed near the front desk, talking amongst themselves
  96. >Should be easy enough to slip by
  97. >The two of you silently trudge along the wall, ensuring nopony sees you behind the corkboard
  98. >Almost there, just gotta get past the coat rack and-
  99. >*BUMP*
  100. >"What was that?"
  101. >Like lightning you grab the coat rack with your Stand
  102. >"Bah, it was probably nothing."
  103. >*Phew*
  104. >With little resistance from there on out, the two of you manage to make it out into the night, where two guards are standing at attention
  105. >After slipping behind them and leaving Toccata to hide in a nearby bush, You make your way back into the building
  106. >With a route through the building secured, you go back and lead Fugue out the same way
  107. >Toccata joins you two as you keep the board up behind you three towards the guards and gain some distance, eventually hiding yourself in a nearby alley
  108. >SUCCESS
  109. >Well, now that that's over with, it's time to finish what you started
  110. >F -"Well, that went... easier than expected."
  111. >T -"Yeah, right?"
  112. "Why wouldn't they try and maximize security around here?"
  113. >"Oh, they simply don't understand the power that Stands have..."
  114. >A deep voice sends a shudder down your spine
  115. >"...but they will."
  116. >A foreign appendage places itself onto your flank, and you quickly jump away
  117. >It's...
  118. >It's HIM!
  119. >"Good evening, Wooden Bit, Toccata, Fugue. What might you be doing up so late?"
