  1. 1. Install ManicTime, a free time tracking program.
  2.
  3. 2. Use the rikai/firefox HTML hooking method.
  4. If you don't know what that is, look in the guide.
  5.
  6. 3. Read a visual novel for exactly one hour with it.
  7. Copy and paste the text from your Firefox html into a newly created .txt file. Save as jsis.
  8.
  9. 4. Right like the .txt file, choose Properties and look at the size in kb.
  10. You now know how much kb per hour your reading speed is.
  11.
  12. 5. Look up the script size of the game https://tlwiki.org/?title=VN/Eroge_Script_sizes
  13. Divide the script size by the kb size you've read in an hour and that'll be approximately how long the VN will take you.
  14. For example, if you read 30kb/hour then a 1mb long VN would take you approximately 33 hours to finish.
  15. Reference back to ManicTime while reading to see how far you have progressed.
  16. If the game you're reading isn't on that script page, refer to http://egs.omaera.org/~ap2/ero/toukei_kaiseki/ for very rough length counts in hours. Rule of thumb is about 16h~ per 1mb for the average native.
