-5 credits: With the Great Depression hitting Brazil, there are tons of young Brazilian men that are out of work. This is a great time to launch a national recruitment drive for army officers. However, as detailed below, we will be a bit selective in which applicants are accepted.

-5 credits: Secretly create an internal espionage system to improve the loyalty of officers.  An office of the military will contain files on officers that contain any information the Department of Political and Social Order, Federal Department of Public Security, and the Military Police have for each individual. Officers’ promotions and assignments will be influenced by how clean their records are.
- Also secretly change the officer recruitment process, similar to what is detailed here:
“categorically prohibited the entrance or enrollment of the sons of Jews, people of color, those of humble origins, and the sons of couples separated for any reason; the commands were authorized to cooperate with police authorities to investigate their class or nature, and naturally, their ideological character.”

This should help filter out any socialists that attempt to join the officer corp. However, as agreed upon with Flaming Bolshevik, let integralists join. Hopefully they will help dilute Tenente influence.



-5 credits: Begin reforming the officer schools themselves. Basically, the instruction at the school is flawed and officers aren't getting knowledge they need to fight effectively. These reforms should also make sure that more cadets graduate, which coupled with the pre-screening I described above, should start filling the ranks with loyalists.

For the Escola Militar do Realengo:
-Completely reform the curricula for physics, chemistry, geometry, and topography. Lessen the focus on abstract material and increase priority on their applications to military operations. This should lessen the amount of cadets who drop out. In addition, give cadets more opportunity to practice command.

For the Escola de Aperfeicoamento de Oficiasis:
-Have promising students study in French military schools for a few months.

For the General Staff School:
-Allow top graduates of the EsAO to be admitted to the school without examination and establish a preparation course for officers taking the exam.
-Lessen the difficulty of the courses offered.

-1: Based on the propaganda the PCB has put out, it is pretty clear that Smyg is trying to start a violent confrontation in Fordlandia. As he told me, "There'll be only non-violent, unarmed resistance, albeit such broadcasted to the world via a large number of foreign journalists." I'm sure he isn't lying.

To build anticipation in the communists and their journalist friends, have the military send a telegram to Fordlandia, saying that a group of soldiers will come shortly to deal with the situation and bring the American employees to safety. Send a small group of 20 or so soldiers to escort the American workers out of the camp. Order the soldiers to act friendly towards the journalists, maybe posing for photographs and sharing some cigarettes. Before the soldiers leave, deliver an open letter to the communist officials, condemning them for violating article 72, section 17 of the constitution.

Fortunately for us, Fordlandia is totally unprofitable.[1] Without Ford's constant investment, the workers will have no source of income. Subsistence farming can't support the hundreds of workers, and the jungle wood is basically worthless. [2] Given that we are in the middle of a depression, it won't take much time for the workers to move on to find other work. The journalists should leave even faster, finding only boredom in the middle of the jungle. After a few months, when the journalists and disappointed workers have left, the state government can send in troops to remove any stragglers and let Ford's company pick up the pieces.


-3 credits: For the election, order military units to increase security in cities where communist agitation is possible.
