- Hetzner servers any good?
- We are looking to move our website onto a VPS or root server and are considering the Vserver MC40 from Hetzner's Managed Servers.

- Can someone recommend Hetzner and/or has a better alternative? Should we want root access? Right now we just have one wordpress site and will be adding a few more but it will not have massive traffic for the time being. We just want to set ourselves up for not having to switch around again soon and need a dedicated IP address.
- Ideally, cPanel should be included too to not have to pay the license fee for that. That's also why I considered "Launch" from Godaddy's Business Web Hosting.
- Thank you kindly,
- N
- Make sure if you go that package, to have your own remote backup since it has no raid configuration.
- Also, make sure you have 2 dedicated cores since WP is hungry on CPU.
- You also need to know how it is being optimized or secured since it is managed.
- So, good luck

- Yes, Hetzner offers excellent value for money.
- Please keep in mind that they do not use cPanel. When you migrate your account(s) to another host in the future, it will take a LOT of manual effort. Put it simply; you will be tied to their platform unless you want to take the hassle of doing a manual migration in the future.
- The plan you mentioned does not offer guaranteed bandwidth too.
- Make sure to buy their "Storage Box" too for backups.

- Hi @ndecker, @LinuxFox is correct here. We use our own in-house platform. It's not possible for to use cPanel with our managed servers, and the model that you picked does not include guaranteed bandwidth. We also do not offer any migration services (either to us or to another provider).
- Some of our managed server customers do indeed use storage boxes. The model you picked also includes automated daily backups that you have access to for 7 days.

- I didn't have a good experience with Hetzner - they weren't able to help at all with filtering a mild DDoS attack and because the hypervisor wasn't a "bare metal" type (e.g. KVM or Xen) I couldn't use ipset to block the attack myself. I moved to TransIP and they've been OK.

- Not a hosting company, but I fix hosting problems
- thanks for the input everyone. We decided to go with a managed VPS from Godaddy in the end. I'll report back how that does for us once we have used it for some time.
- Thanks for letting us know - I hate it when people just disappear, leaving people still answering questions they're no longer interested in the answers to!
- I've just helped someone set up a Godaddy server and one problem you might encounter is they charge a fortune for SSL certificates that should be free. Just warning you because the SSL certificate is not usually the first thing you set up, and you might put a lot of effort into the website before you discover this.

- Hi @Phil, I was just waiting to see if anyone else still had suggestions. This was super helpful and although I'm certainly not a forum-pro, I think a certain level of gratitude for free advise should be the default.
- Regarding the SSLs - got it, thank you. We do not get them through Godaddy and I'm aware of open source options. I'll update this once the migration is complete and we have the first experiences with GD. The one thing I already like about them is that their support is outstanding. Stay tuned :-)
- Just wanted to finish up this thread to everyone that's interested. We have been super happy with Godaddy so far. We didn't have the problem with the SSL cert that Phil mentioned but perhaps we just had a different setup. << snipped >>
