  1. (The email pasted below was sent to many of the 2018 candidates for state offices in Minnesota. I struggled with the CVS file, so I didn't ge all the House reps emailed but the majority were.)

  17. Closed adoption laws that seal original birth certificates of adoptees in confidentiality, thus severing ties between family members, constitute a clear violation of widely accepted international law -- the human right to identity -- and this injustice should be corrected by the Minnesota legislature immediately.
  18.
  19.
  20. Many U.S. politicians and adoption industry pundits claim that allowing adoptees access to their original birth certificate is a controversial issue, yet the UNCRC treaty shows overwhelming consensus for the right to identity as a basic human right -- the UNCRC is the most widely ratified treaty in history.
  21.
  22.
  23. As a politician yourself, I hope you seek to make a difference. Here is that chance, a chance to stand for, or against, basic human rights.
  24.
  25.
  26. Would you please stand up for the rights of adoptees and support a bill that would overhaul closed adoption laws?
  27.

  29. Best regards,
  30.
