  1. DCSS 0.23 "Elliptic" Streak Game #27: MiAK^Lugonu (Part 1) [DUNGEON CRAWL STONE SOUP]
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZXi3LDF7Zc&list=PLDaRV3E1ecibDeKDyvFUCYOKMPcO3FKLl&index=69
  3.
  4. @1:18 "I played a couple of Hill Orcs and almost died on both of them."
  5. Further evidence that streak was luck.
  6.
  7. @5:44 Picked Str for his first stat level up. Went 16->17. Wrong.
  8.
  9. pot exp leveled MiAK (falchion) to XL3, picked Str.
  10. fsim ogre:
  11. aed = (+ 4.7 1.8)6.5
  12. mons aed = 5.7
  13. swap 1 str to dex
  14. aed = same
  15. mons aed = 5.6
  16. swap another str to dex
  17. aed = (+ 4.5 1.8)6.3
  18. mons aed = 5.2
  19.
  20. delta aed = .2/6.5 = (/ .2 6.5) .031
  21. delta mons aed = .5/5.7 = (/ .5 5.7) .081
  22.
  23. value Dex:Str = (/ .081 .031) 2.6
  24. Big difference.
  25.
  26. Dex > Str when Str > Enc.
  27.
  28. @6:35 Won't use ID scroll on enchanted hunting sling because "I don't want to end up as a sling guy on a minotaur of lugonu". Wrong. "Again, not gonna train slings." Wrong.
  29.
  30. @1:34:23 I get the feeling that no matter how much I bait Malcolm, I can still extract DCSS-related compliance from him at the price of a few Twitch bits per hour, which is cheaper than renting time on a 486 chip. Elliptic's qw bot has really driven down wages.
  31.
  32. @1:44:32 "Yeah don't listen to Leo with regards to trying to do Zin in the early game. It's not bad, but it's really not good either, compared to some other choices that you could make."
  33.
  34. ManMan> "Keep in mind that Leo has not won a single game and excuses his early-game deaths as "exploring the early game""
  35.
  36. False. As a scoreboard snapshot will demonstrate, the vast majority of my games are quits. Of the few deaths, causation ranges from inexperience to impatience to experimentation to unskillfulness. The latter I am always keen to correct, regardless of whether it results in a death. As long as I am learning things in the early game that allow me to restart and improve my characters, I feel no need to progress. The early game affects strategic decisions made later on, so learning it takes logical precedence. Moreover, build path is far less affected by later stages of the game. Thus learning DCSS mainly means learning the early game. My HOFi run through Abyss and Zot 1:4 was enough exposure to let me plan all but maybe the last stage of the essential build paths.
  37.
  38. There's often a tradeoff between short and long-term power, so knowing just how OP one can make the essential combos in the early game affects what follows. Also, initial god choice has wrath and branch sequence implications. It just makes sense to do things in this order, if one's goal is to be systematic rather than social.
  39.
  40. @1:58:42 Self congratulatory discussion between Malcolm and ManMan et al about my intelligence and character, the math debate, and my DCSS knowledge. The usual.
  41.
  42. @2:00:47 ManMan> One of my favourite bits about Leo is that he claims to have extensively explored the early game
  43. which knowing Leo, is a round-about way to say he's died a lot
  44. MR> Right that was kinda the joke ManMan, I agree with that entirely
  45.
  46. Idiots. I tell them how I cracked their meta by looping the early game, and they think it's a joke.
  47. How else would one do it? Nobody's going to out-invest Yermak. One must take a radically different approach.
  48.
  49. Isolation is a basic analytical principle. It holds across the scientific method - good experimental design isolates a variable - and learning by chunking subskills. All I'm doing is deliberate practice.
  50.
  51. @2:16:16 Says CK should ditch starting chaos weapon ASAP: "For Chaos Knights, yeah, I would say you ditch it ASAP, because it could just kill you, regardless of anything." Wrong. Keeps Xom amused, allows desperation plays.
  52.
  53. @2:24:13 on Fedhas: "He's a very bad god." Wrong. He's essential for many species in Lairiable branches.
