  1. Running frantically, so fast he was tripping on the air around him he could hear the lights behind him turning off one by one. The darkness engulfed the ground behind him. Cries echoed all around. The boy tripped and landed on his right leg, twisting and injuring it. A dark tendril extended from the dark and scratched the nape of his neck, he screamed and jumped away back into the light. Hearing the shadows move towards him he staggered towards a building. Bracing for the impact he held his arms in front of his face and leapt through the window. Cuts emerged all over his body from the broken shards of glass littered all over the wooden floor, the boys limp made him an easy target for the dark and he knew this well. He also knew what would happen if those tendrils even so much as touched the tip of your hair, he got up and searched through the house conserving energy lest the tendrils appeared again. Trying to find a light source to keep the evil away from him.

  6. Two men fully equipped with a futuristic looking exosuit leaking light from the many slits in their armour opened the creaking door to a rundown house. Upon entering, one of the men, David noticed the broken window and the glass all over the floor. "Broken glass here must've jumped through the window." David said
  7. David was a pale white middle-aged man, stern and occasionally violent but just when it was necessary, to him failing a mission is equal to losing an arm. It must not happen under any circumstances, failure is unacceptable. Flicking a switch, a visor rose up showing his face. He had dark brown eyes and looked very old, a bit too old for a 49-year-old man. His hair which was just about visible from the visor was gray and much like his face, very old. Almost everything about David looked old, his skills, speed, and efficiency, however, was anything but old. He wasn't the best in Eden, but he sure as hell wasn't the worst.
  8. "Guess so, not like anything else could've done it." Johnson replied in a soft tone
  9. Unlike David, Johnson was young, reckless, foolish and very new to what they were doing. It was David's job to make sure he doesn't die on his first day of work.
  10.
  11. David whacked the switch and Johnson's visor rose up, blue eyes shone outwards into the dark of the house. Johnson's also pale face in comparison to David's looked like a baby, still young, 21 years old but showing promise in his line of work as one of the top recruits in Eden, but as they both knew, the real thing and practice holograms. They were very different and nothing could prepare you for what the real deal is about. Johnson turned his head and looked irritated, his cool black hair almost invisible in the darkness.
  12. Closing the door behind them they hooked their UV lights to their belts and unhooked a smaller light for a close quarters encounter just in case something lay in wait for them in this very house.
  13.
  14.
  15. "Another one?" David said
  16. "Yeah, another one." Johnson replied "looks as if he was trying to outrun them, jumped through that window tried to find some light maybe? God, I've never seen what those things do to us before. It's horrific." David wanted Johnson to do all the dirty work, for now, so he waited just outside the room he was in keeping his eyes wide open for any suspicious activity.
  17.
  18. Johnson looked at the boy's corpse, it lay there flat on the ground, skin turned pure black, as if he was cooked alive. Part of his body was strewn across the floor, blood all over the small room he had locked himself into.
  19. "Damn, check his number, might have some identification on him. We'll have to get someone notify his parents later too." the man sighed and began humming to keep themselves from feeling the insanity rise up again "Oh, wait. Pictures, you need to take some pictures too. We'll need those for HQ."
  20. The younger man snapped some pictures with his digital camera, the flash flew around the room straining their eyes.
  21. Bending over he noticed a six digit number and a name on his wrist. "Found his identification, 65353, Timothy Timson"
  22. "Sending it to HQ now, they'll send someone to his family." He sighed heavily "What made this stupid kid decide to leave Eden I wonder? Not like he could've missed all those announcements we were playing around Eden."
  23.
  24. Unable to think of a response Johnson stood up and said a prayer to the deceased boy. He placed a small canister on top his chest and his body began to crumble into ash, the canister vacuumed and filled up with the boy's ashes. "I never understood how this canister even works, it's weird. Then again, our entire world is weird, not like this is anything special." Johnson inquired, picking up the canister they David flicked a switch on his helmet. His visor shot back down and they hooked their small lights back onto their belt and then unhooked the bigger, more powerful UV light. A bright purple light filled the room and not a single shadow remained. "Put your visor down or you'll get a headache." David remarked as they both left the house and returned to Eden.
