  1. HOW TO PLAY: Guizhang 70 Man Battle Mod for Shenmue I Dreamcast [Undub Definitive Edition]
  2. _____
  3. WHAT YOU NEED:
  4.
  5. [1] A copy of “Play as Guizhang Mod”;
  6. Download on my Google Drive. 4 builds are available. Select the one you’d like to play.
  7.
  8. DOWNLOAD MOD: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12lzgUWx25vehD_bszoU8lZ4qHiv2_762
  9.
  10. BUILD INFO
  11.
  12. BUILD 1 – Modded moveset with Music ON: Playable Guizhang + Full moveset with a couple of moves altered (e.g. ability to block was restored (normally, it’s broken). Music was left untouched, so “Earth & Sea” will play during time trial mode.
  13.
  14. BUILD 2 – Modded moveset with Music OFF: Same as 1, but “Earth & Sea” was disabled. This is for people who want to put their own music in background.
  15.
  16. BUILD 3 – Vanilla moveset with Music ON: Playable Guizhang + Full move set with no changes. This means Guizhang won’t be able to block at all (due to some kind of bug). Music was left untouched, so “Earth & Sea” will play during time trial mode.
  17.
  18. BUILD 4 - Vanilla moveset with Music OFF: Same as 3, but “Earth & Sea” was disabled. This is for people who want to put their own music in background.
  19.
  20. Of these 4 builds, BUILD 1 is the one I recommend the most (the inclusion of blocking really improves the experience). BUILD 3 is meant for purists who don’t care about my changes or the blocking bug, and just want to use the moveset as developed by AM2. BUILD 2 and BUILD 4 remove the music, so you can better concentrate/put your own music (that’s one thing I’ve grown to do a lot recently).
  21.
  22. Refer to the Guizhang move list document for a list of all move inputs and info on the custom moves I’ve added.

  26. [2] A Dreamcast emulator;
  27.
  28. In case you don’t have one, here are some options.
  29.
  30. 1. Flycast. Modern, full of options to customize your experience, not too difficult to set up, has save states (a ton of slots), fast forward, Widescreen cheats, doesn’t require bios (you heard that correctly!) and, most importantly, emulation quality is excellent. The only minus is it kinda struggles on old/low-end PCs, but if you keep graphic options low, it’s still going to be a good emulation experience. For people with good PCs, this emulator is a beast, and by far the best Dreamcast emulator!

  36. Download Flycast: https://flyinghead.github.io/flycast-builds/ [If you’re on PC and have Windows, download the latest “Windows x64”]
  37.
  38. 2. Redream. Modern and popular, very easy to set up, has save states (kind of), fast forward, Widescreen cheats, also doesn’t require bios (always a great thing!) and, most importantly, doesn’t use a lot of PC resources, so it will run great, even on old PCs!
  39.
  40. Redream actually comes in 2 versions: one you have to pay for, and it’s great and full of options (like Flycast); the other one is free, but is limited in customization. Free version is still good enough and will run well on most (if not all) PCs. Shenmue won't look particularly pretty though, as the limited customization really impacts on the enhancements you can apply.

  45.
  46. So in short:
  47.
  48. 1. Flycast if you have a decent PC and are willing to put some time to tweak settings, the game will look great.
  49. 2. Redream if your PC is kind of old but you still want a good experience, plus it’s easier to set up.
  50.
  51. I’ll also mention a couple of alternatives:
  52.
  53. 3. Flycast on Retroarch. This one I’m not going to add a download link, since it’s kind of a mess to set up. All I’m going to say is Retroarch has an exclusive version of Flycast, which I find to be underrated. Making it run well is kind of a gift, as options are more limited, but input delay is somehow much better here than on “standard” Flycast.
  54.
  55. 4. Demul. This is a more old-school emulator, which hasn’t seen new updates in years. It’s not too complicated to set up, but it requires bios (linking them is illegal and they’re always a pain to find) to boot games, plus adding new VMU saves is a mess if you don’t know how it works. Unless you already have it and are used to it, I’d personally stay away from it and pick either Flycast and redream, but I must say, Demul’s emulation quality is surprisingly decent.
  56.
  57. 5.Real hardware. I don’t own a Dreamcast so I couldn’t test this of course, but there’s no reason to believe my mod shouldn’t work on it. If you know how to create bootable discs or have some kind of mod to read GDI images directly on your Dreamcast, then by all means go ahead and try! You will need a Clear Save on your VMU to access the 70 Man Battle time attack mode though.
  58.
  59. [3] A VMU save that contains a “CLEAR” file for Shenmue.
  60.
  61. You need it for the 70 Man Battle time attack mode to appear on the main menu after the title screen (it will appear in "Options").
  62. If you don't have one, I included my own VMU save in the folder, compatible with UNDUB and PAL versions of Shenmue, and works on all mentioned emulators.
  63.
  64. HOW TO INSTALL VMU
  65.
  66. To install VMU saves, you must know where your emulator stores them.
  67.
  68. In Flycast, they can be found in “Flycast/data”. Make a backup of your own “vmu_save_A1.bin” if you got any saves on your VMU, then take my VMU save, drop it in the folder and overwrite the existing file.
  69.
  70. In redream, they can be found in redream’s main folder. Make a backup of your “vmu0.bin” file if you got any saves on your VMU, then take my VMU save, rename it “vmu0.bin”, drop it in the folder and overwrite the existing file.
  71.
  72. In Flycast (Retroarch core version), they’re in “Retroarch/system/dc”. Make a backup of your own “vmu_save_A1.bin” if you got any saves on your VMU, then take my VMU save, drop it in the folder and overwrite the existing file.
  73.
  74. In Demul, it’s in “Demul/memsaves”. Make a backup of your “vms00.bin” file if you got any saves on your VMU, then follow this procedure. Run Demul, go to Config, Maple Device Manager, then on Port A, select Edit on the corresponding VMS/VMU slot, Select Vms and add my VMU (name doesn’t matter). A Shenmue icon will appear on the Vms Editor. From there, press ok and you will have added my saves to your VMS/VMU.
  75.
  76. On real hardware, I have no idea how to import saves on a real VMU, so I’m afraid I can’t help you with that.
  77.
  78. Check the "70 Man Battle VMU Save" folder to download my VMU (vmu_save_A1.bin) and make sure to check the readme for additional info.
