45. Following the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his men are charged with finding the so-called weapons of mass destruction, whose existence justified American involvement, according to the Pentagon and their man in Baghdad, Poundstone. Veteran CIA operative Marty tells Miller that there are no weapons, it is a deception to allow the Americans to take over the country and install a puppet leader. Also suspicious of Poundstone is Wall Street Journal reporter Lawrie Dayne, who lets slip to Miller that Poundstone told her he had secret talks in Jordan with an important Iraqi, code-named Magellan, who told him about the weapons, though it now seems likely Magellan's true information was to the contrary. So begins a hunt for the truth. Who's playing whom?
46. Discovering covert and faulty intelligence causes a U.S. Army officer to go rogue as he hunts for Weapons of Mass Destruction in an unstable region.
47. Green Zone has been classified as a rare miss for both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass. We remember when Green Zone was first released showing the trailers, it was relatively hyped up and described as a "Bourne film in war". The film wasn't received as well as the first three Bourne films and has flopped at the box office.

Within the story, It's 2003, where we see Matt Damon plays (Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller), head of a WMD-finding unit in Baghdad which keeps coming up empty at all the alleged sites. Suspecting bad leads, Miller goes maverick in his attempts to trace their original source, raising eyebrows and fighting the received orthodoxy. With all we know about the wool-pulling to make the case for war, it's a kick to follow a main character on the ground who smells a rat this early, wary of the stalling tactics the Pentagon are offering instead of conclusive proof.

Overall Green Zone doesn't grad the attention as one would have hoped for. It has its moments but in comparison to the Bourne films, Green Zone doesn't stack up and comes up short. Also compared to the Hurt Locker, in which we can see some similarities but the Hurt Locker feels as much of a more superior film.
48. The film is based upon the US's war on Iraq and its search for weapons of mass destruction which are believed to be hidden somewhere in Iraq itself, how much of the above fact is true forms the basis of the movie.Never before the truth has been searched for so deeply and sensibly especially by an American soldier itself.Matt Damon executes the role perfectly which is why i think nobody could have done the job better.the film questions the reasons which started the war in Iraq and beautifully depicts the flaws that exist in them.A deeply thought movie like this should never be missed especially when it concerns a serious issue,so after seeing THE GREEN ZONE i feel glad that i did not miss this no way short of a masterpiece...
49. To pretend that the film doesn't make a political statement is silly. Of course it does. It wouldn't be effective at all if it didn't.
50. Yes, Allied forces recovered thousands aerial bombs and artillery shells filled with nerve gas of the same type used by Saddam in the Iran/Iraq war and to kill over 3000 people in the Kurdish town of Halabaja in 1988. However the manufacturing system that produced them had long since been abandoned as a result of UN sanctions, Iraqi exiles fleeing the regime telling Western intelligence agencies that they were still functioning in order to convince them to liberate Iraq from Saddam's dictatorship. In interviews before his trial Saddam stated that he obstructed UN inspectors who could verify the truth so as not to lose face and expose Iraq's military weakness to Iran, thinking that any Allied campaign would be limited to airstrikes. No, Saddam was a worldwide sponsor of terrorism supporting movements such as Islamic Jihad and others and it is know that his agents met those of Osama Bin Laden for talks but there is no evidence that he provided any actual support. In interviews prior to his trial Saddam dismissed Bin Laden as a 'zealot' who would encourage Islamic extremism in largely secular Iraq. a5c7b9f00b
