  1. PILOT:
  2. In January 2031, Lieutenant Masayuki Sakamoto receives orders from Resistance High Command to return to Canada via the I-80. Reluctant to leave his men and his family behind, and unsure of why a minor Tac-Rec officer be recalled on such short notice, he insists that his wife and children be allowed safe passage with him. This is not granted, and he is forced to leave them in Reno, assuring them he will be back within the month.
  3.
  4. After 1 week, Masa arrives at Lake X, Tac-Rec's Regional Headquarters. He shares a reunion with his parents and brothers. His father, now in his 60's and suffering from lung cancer, has retired from the role of village doctor, which has fallen to Masa's brother Masahiro. All are eager to hear about Masa's new family, but he is quickly summoned to the command bunker, where he is given his orders by Admiral McKenzie and his staff.
  5.
  6. The mysterious figure known as "The Captain" has apparently resurfaced in the Black Hills of South Dakota, after 5 years of no contact. Masa's former Squad Leader, Seth Hunt, never returned after searching for him on apparently false leads. The Black Hills, characterized by almost 10 years of violent conflict between the Lakota Confederacy and the 45th Deadwood Battalion, has been mediated by Tac-Rec under a tentative armistice, but it is broken without hesitation and hundreds have been killed.
  7.
  8. As the sole remaining connection to both Hunt and the Captain, Masa is tasked with leading an expedition into the wartorn region under the guise of a humanitarian party. Without blowing their cover, Masa was expected to confirm the survival of the pair and secure their extraction. Masa is thus presented his first combat command, despite having spent most of his life as a medical officer. "Admiral Mack" talks privately with Masa and warns him not to trust anyone, and that both Hunt and the Captain have the potential to be dangerous men if under the wrong alliances.
  9.
  10. After being reassured that Tac-Rec will hold no responsibility in the event of his death or capture, he is packed into a convoy and sent to Alberta. Before he leaves, Masa says goodbye to his family, and his father presents him with his grandfather's sword from the Japanese Army.
  11.
  12. He first arrives in the home territory of the Lakota Confederacy in Montana, a reservation town called Lame Deer. The LC are somewhat friendly to Tac-Rec representatives, and have agreed to provide a scout. After bartering for additional supplies and gathering rumors, Masa learns that the LC has begun to gain the upper-hand in the war, and that the 45th are in danger of being pushed out of the area. They are also much more hostile to any non-Lakota in the area, including Tac-Rec themselves, and have begun to splinter into tribal factions.
  13.
  14. After leaving Lame Deer, the search party consists of 10:
  15. Masa, as acting Lieutenant, is considered the fireteam leader, but officially is listed as a diplomatic envoy.
  16. Sonya Adams, a 20-year-old Lakota scout, is Masa's interpreter, guide, and assistant. She is considered jumpy and inexperienced, but she possesses the greatest knowledge of the Black Hills out of anyone in Lame Deer.
  17. "Rook" O'Donnell, a former Reaper and friend of Masa.
  18. Lionel, a Reprogrammed T-800. As the Lakota vehemently target all drones, Skynet or not, Lionel is a captured infiltrator that had attempted to replace a Sergeant. He is rumored to be defective, as his technician complained that he would not immediately follow directives.
  19. 5 84th aid specialists, who are genuinely tasked with humanitarian aid as per the "official" objectives.
  20.
  21. The group stops in an abandoned mining town for the night, but as they begin to cook dinner, they come under heavy attack from a Skynet patrol, consisting of T-800's and T-600's. As Masa realizes that they are about to be overrun, he peers over the ridge. At the last minute, they are saved by a large group of soldiers armed with M2 Humvees and plasma.
  22. End of Pilot.
  23.
  24. Episode 2.
  25.
  26. With the attack finally repelled, Masa counts his losses: 10 pounds of food, 2 aid specialists (1 of the 54th was killed), and his confidence that this is a good idea. Despite his misgivings, the 45th Sergeant offers their escort to safety, to which Masa eventually agrees. Several of the men hold Masa and his party responsible for the death of their friend, and jeer at Masa for bringing an "Injun" as a sign of bad luck.
  27.
  28. Though the journey is fairly dangerous, the party eventually arrives in the town of Deadwood. A mirror image of its Old West incarnation, the town is heavily fortified and contains a general store, saloon, a brothel, and even stables with horses. Given shelter by the 84th in an old synagogue, the group settles into the town to plan their next move.
  29.
  30. From the sheriff, shopkeep, and town doctor, they learn that the town is being held under martial law by the 45th and that their occupation is taking its toll. To the sheriff's chagrin, Major Lang forces his deputies to assist in crackdowns against individuals suspected to be spies and saboteurs, and many of these are imprisoned or executed. This is in response to terrorist bombings in the town and multiple kidnappings by the Lakota of civilians, but the sheriff fears that it is becoming ethnic cleansing.
  31.
  32. The general store is unable to provide for the townspeople, and traders no longer enter the area due to the inherent violence. Cultivation of crops has ground to a standstill and the troops receive priority for supplies, meaning that apart from the booze, people are going hungry and getting angry. The town doctor, after delivering a stillborn baby, pleads with Masa to end the gridlock and stop the plunge into starvation.
  33.
  34. Meanwhile, the group tentatively explores the bizarre town. Lionel is drawn into the brothel, and cannot be reached on radio. Masa, Rook and Sonya decide to seek a meeting with the battalion commander in the morning before heading to the saloon.
  35. Sonya is harassed by two drunk soldiers, both of whom are from the squad that rescued them. Many bar patrons side with the soldiers, circling her in as the two push her around. Rook and Masa, playing a game of billiards, attempt to come to her aid, sparking a vicious bar brawl. Rook, a vicious knife-fighter, nearly castrates one of the men before he and Masa are swiftly knocked unconscious.
  36.
  37. End of Episode 2.
  38.
  39. Episode 3:
  40. The commander of the town, Major Joshua Lang, visits the jail in the morning, and allows their release.
