You are Cthulhu, a god.

You are Cthulhu, a god. You’re bored and decide you want to destroy the universe, but before you can do that, you have to find something to occupy your time with. So you go searching for some sort of creature or object that will satisfy your hunger. You decide that you want to eat a planet because it’s so big and there is nothing else in the universe for you to consume. You begin to search through all the stars for one that has life around it, until you eventually come across an inhabited world.

You stare at the planet for several minutes as if trying to determine whether it might be edible. Finally you turn away from it and walk back to the ship. The crew looks at you like you’ve gone mad. They don’t know what to make of this strange behavior.

"What are you doing?” — they ask.
"I’m looking for something!” — you say, angrily.
"We’re not eating planets! We’re exploring them!” — they yell at you.

You stand up and start walking towards the crew, but before you can reach them, you realize that you have no idea how to do that. You think about punching someone, but then you remember that you’re supposed to be the captain, and that means you should be able to command respect. You tell the crew to respect you and you’ll show them how to do it. They laugh at your suggestion, but you get the impression that they agree with you. You take a deep breath and continue to move forward, towards the crew.

You hold your gun and begin to wave your arms around. This works well enough, until you notice that the crew aren’t really paying attention to you. They’re too busy laughing at you. You try again… But this time, you fire a bullet into Karen’s head. She falls backwards, hitting her head on the floor. You quickly run over to her and pull her limp body off the floor and throw it against the wall. You look down at her lifeless body and feel sick.

“See this? You don’t want this to happen to you all, do you?” — you say, as you point your pistol at yourself. You look at the empty chamber and slowly lower the gun to your side. You then turn to the rest of the crew, "Now, respect me!” — you yell. The crew looks at you strangely. Some of them smile, others just shake their heads. You continue to speak to them, but none of them seem to listen to you. They watch you carefully, waiting for you to change your mind. Eventually you nod and return to your cabin. You sit down and close your eyes. After a few moments, you hear the sound of footsteps coming down the hall. You open your eyes and see a man standing before you.

“Karen, is that you?” — you ask.

He nods his head and smiles. He walks past you and opens the door. He steps inside and closes the door behind him, then sits down on the bed and begins to cry. He cries for hours, but eventually he stops, picks himself up and walks over to you.

“What do you want?” — you ask again.
“Karen, I love you.” — he answers, sobbing.

You scream at him, but he doesn’t respond. Instead, he continues crying for a while longer, until he finally turns around and leaves. You sit alone in your room for days, wondering why you did what you did. Eventually you go to sleep and never wake up.
