Grettir - Fights two strong men

The suggestion was made that one of the Thord brothers should fight Grettir, who for his part told them to decide. Grettir was standing there waiting, when one of the brothers came forward and suddenly threw himself with all his might at him. But Grettir's feet never budged. Then he reached down over the man's back until he got hold of his pants and yanked him up off his feet. Grettir threw the man backwards over his head so that he landed on his shoulder. It was a very hard fall.

Next, men said that both brothers should fight Grettir at the same time. Now the real contest began, with each side at times getting the better of the other. Although Grettir usually had one of the brothers down, both of them were in turn brought to their knees, and each was thrown. They fought so fiercely that they were black-and-blue and covered with blood. Everyone thought this great entertainment.

When they finally stopped, everyone thanked them for the wrestling. It was the judgement of those present that the two brothers together were not stronger than Grettir alone, even though each of them had the strength of two full-bodied men. The sides were so equally matched that neither had an advantage over the other, no matter how they tried.
