- What would your ideal home be?
- AMITY:
- "Man, like, an actual house? Tough question. I guess I'd want like... I dunno'. I don't want to be anywhere near a city. I don't need that much space. Contrary to what you'd imagine looking at me, I don't have any vast gold hoards or anything I have to hide away. So... I guess just a little cabin in the woods? Y'know, somewhere no one's going to bug me."
- AUGUST:
- "Oh, dude. I'd want a HUGE mansion. Like, giant, marble pillars, statues and fountains just everywhere, the dumbest, most opulent shit you could imagine. Like, I'd have to walk like two whole miles of hard marble floor to go to the... uh... chess room? How do rich people use all that space? Just, I think that'd be hilarious. This guy? Living in a big dumb house like that? Just worth it to see the look on people's faces."
- AYA:
- "You know... I think a lot about returning to, I guess... Warden life? I miss it sometimes. The idea of settling down in a dilapidated little home, making it my own. Brushing the moss. My house now is nice, but as... uh. It almost feels a little ungrateful, actually, ha, but, as nice as my house is now, I really do long to return to my... natural... habitat? If you can call it that? So, yeah, that, I guess. But I'd never do that, I don't think. The very concept of dilapidation kinda' requires me to be away from other people most of the time."
- CLAIRE:
- "Well, with six souls between us, it has been something of a blessing to not have to make that decision! With no need for permanent shelter, we really, truly do prefer the nomadic life. If we were to settle down in a home, we worry that even one of our souls might become restless. It's hard to find that common ground between all of us, and keep it. When we've no need for a home anyhow, it's best to avoid the conflict, hm?"
- CYRIL:
- "At this point, if I ever see another gold filigree again, I might just permanently lose my shit. So, allow me to make that clear: no, I don't want somewhere ostentatious or fancy. In fact, I think my ideal home is a well in the ground that I can crawl out of whenever I need to feed, like my lovely progenitors. Ha. But, really... I suppose I'd most like a quaint home. An older home perhaps, that I could fix up. It would be nice to have a project. Idle hands are the Beast's workshop, you knoow. Somewhere with a lot of open space. Minimal decor. Room to breathe. The clutter of my laboratory, even if its supposed 'perfect' state, is starting to suffocate me, I must say."
- DARCY:
- "Hmm. What a lovely question! I've never thought about it too much, mostly just disjointed ideas about what I would like in a home that don't really add up to a full picture of a home. Things like... only one floor, so that when I get old I won't have to worry about the steps! Or, a balcony... but... those two rather conflict. Hmm. Maybe a house with an attic that has a balcony, so that I don't have to worry about anything important being upstairs, and I can simply forget about the balcony when it becomes untenable? And..."
- ELEANOR:
- "I dunno'. Fuckin'... you know what? I want to live on a train. I bet you totally could. Trains have bathrooms, they have electricity in the cabins now, you could totally just set up a whole little house in one cabin. That'd be awesome. Sure, eventually you'll have seen the whole route a hundred times, but at least it's better than waking up in the same place every day. Plus, I think the rumbling from the train moving would be nice."
- EZRA:
- "A question I've considered for quite some time. Must say, I'm sick to death of the pure, sterile towers the nobility fetter in. Even for my library. If it were up to me, and I didn't need to live in this rat's nest, I think I'd find myself at home in a lovely house in the woods. Settled on a mountainside, big windows to overlook the forest, a balcony I can sit on and read. Yes, I know. A goat, on a mountain? Preposterous."
- FEN:
- "Well. This may seem like a strange answer, but even I tire of the cleanliness and perfection of our little clinic. There's an old house on the edge of Kattua that, as far as I know, belongs to the village. It has been locked up since I was a child, under the orders of the mayor. I remember getting into it one day with August, when I was just 16, and I remember balking at the beautiful architecture inside. It's a truly wonderful home, just... old, and imperfect. Just big enough, just ostentatious enough without being the stuff of the sickeningly wealthy, and I'm certain very storied. I would want a place like that. Big, but not wastefully so; old, but not dilapidated; maybe a little tacky, but not overwhelmingly so. You know, somewhere imperfect, a touch weird, and possibly haunted. Somewhere interesting."
- FOXFIRE:
- "Biggest house. Maximum space! Foxfire needs as much space as possible, for keeping things. Things like horses, for riding and also for shows, because Foxfire would be rich and rich people do horse things. Collections. Piles of money. Many many rooms so that Foxfire would never ever run out of space, ever."
- FRAN:
- ". . . I cannot have a permanent home. My work would not permit it. Would that circumstances shifted, though, I suppose I would find comfort in being by the water. I would need chambers capable of achieving sterile conditions, and enough space to work. A larger home, then."
- GAIL:
- "Y'know, I've thought a fair bit about that question, myself. You see all sorts of architecture and meet all sorts of folks who live in all sorts of places in my line of work, and, I hate to be stereotypical, there really isn't anything quite like a little ranch house in a valley. Mountains reaching for the sky at all sides, beautiful views that you don't have to be high up to get... can't go wrong."
- HALLEY:
- "Oh, wow! What a fun question! I've seen so many places, but you know what? The nicest places I've seen are the real modern ones! I guess like, people are coming up with these new fancy materials, and now there's so many strange shapes you can build a house in! I'd want one with all sorts of weird features. Funny shaped windows, bright colors, funky architecture. Fun stuff!"
- IKALI:
- "I already have the home I want. It is small. Warm. I have enough space for a large garden. I have adequate space to keep the things I need, but not so much space as to have room for things I don't. I have everything I need."
- ISABELLE:
- "... Why are you asking me this? I have more important things to be doing. Nngh. I suppose if I were pressed to answer, I'd say I want... somewhere far away. Underground, perhaps. Heavy stone walls, considerable defenses and plentiful space. Does that answer sate you?"
- JACIE:
- "Huh. You know, some of the witches I've met live in these... wild little burrows. Like, I thought that was some shit Starpeak made up to portray witches as weird freaks who live in holes, but having actually been in one of those dens, it's actually really cool. There's a bunch of logistical challenges I guess, like ventilation and stuff? But they figured it out, right?"
- KENZO:
- "I've lived out in forests and small towns most of my life at this point. As... blasphemous as it would be to say, ha, I think I long for city life. Just to taste it, at least. I like to people-watch from time to time, just see folks going about their business, talking, having fun. So, if I were to choose my ideal house right now... it'd have to be an apartment somewhere like Osivyver. Just enough space to keep all my stuff, a nice view of the street, and perhaps I'd be happy."
- MARY:
- "Well, I would say I already have my ideal home! It's actually the very same home my mother lived in for quite some time, and she passed it down to me. I used it to simply dump my things and then hit the road again for so long, but when I finally settled down I started to appreciate how beautiful it was. My parents put a great deal of effort into it, and I'd practically be insulting their effort by wanting to live anywhere else. It has such a warm and inviting atmosphere, even entering the... 'business' side of things, it feels like walking into a well-loved, old-fashioned home. I wouldn't want anything else."
