- Attacker(s): Jake Bird
- Description: Bird, a hobo with an extensive criminal record, was prowling through Tacoma,WA, when he found an axe in the woodshed outside the home occupied by Bertha and her teenage daughter Beverly. He took off his shoes, before entering the house. When he was confronted by Bertha, he hacked her to death after attempting to r*pe her. When Beverly confronted Bird, he hacked her to death, before fleeing the scene.

- 11-18-1928 - Joseph was found in his bed with his head crushed.
- 11-19-1928 - Gertrude and her sister Creda were found hacked to death in their home.
- 11-30-1928 - Freda woke up to Bird standing over her bed with an axe. He attacked her and her husband Harold. She pleaded with him to spare her life, and so he marched her down Carter Lake Road for 3 miles, before finally letting her go.
