  1. Overview: The world of Urnum, founded by an ancient race of forgotten Elven people and torn apart by civil wars, imperial conquest and a threat that stretches across every continent. It has gone into a dark age with the seemingly unstoppable force of unsavory magics corrupting endless armies to keep nations constantly fighting for survival. You work as a warrior, diplomat, merchant or inquisitor for a powerful noble who has taken it into his hands to gather a taskforce of kingdom officials to help maintain stability and prosperity throughout all the lands.

  4. Magic and religion: The magic in Urnum is much different than conventional magic. The basics of it are that there are two forms of magic, dubbed "The essence" by humanity and eventually adopted by other races. One is typically represented by a lighter, more pure aspect of magic and used in traditional human societies by their sorcerers. This is obtained through lifelong dedication to the study of the essence and if dubbed worthy, they will find that they can use the powers of magic. This magic can place courage, knowledge and skill into the individual who is blessed by a powerful essence sorcerer. The other form, simply known as Heretical magics by society or "Old magic" as called by the Sylvalur is the outcast form of magic, obtained through debt, decadence, desire for power and indulgence. There are few powerful sorcerers who have studied and mastered this form, but many more seek out blessings from this magic, as it is easy to recieve and gives it's users the basic powers in exchange for an eternal debt they owe to the magic. Once they die, or are called upon by a heretical sorcerer they are conscripted into their armies for conquest.

  7. History of the world: Millennia ago, An elven race of people walked the earth and ruled, called the Sylvalur. They worshipped magic without any deity's and the two sides of the essence had equal control over the people that inhabited Urnums lands. The now accepted side rewarded the dedicated with wisdom, leadership and courage. The other side rewarded it's followers with physical strength, charisma and pleasure. The Sylvalur built 4 towers, scattered across the remote areas of Urnum to worship and empower the two sides of the essence and maintain unity between them.

  9. But one year, a powerful leader of the Sylvalur, Tavas syllium, had taken a strong interest in the Old magics, as they were once called. He studied them, searching to obtain more power through them to overthrow the governments of Urnum and take them as his subjects. Upon immersing himself with the Old magics, he eventually obtained extreme power through years of study, using his own armies to take part in utilizing the magics to give them strength and begin to conquer the peaceful world.

  11. After years of waging war against his bretheren, the other Sylvalur opposed him with bloody rebellion, reduced to small strongholds that fought him with a scorched earth strategy. They stormed Tavas' cities and torched what they could, bringing their whole society to ruins to avoid him from ruling over them. However, the few Sylvalur who had kept from joining the ranks of his invading hordes went into hiding.
  12.
  13. Once his armies swept across all continents of Urnum, Tavas found that all his subjects had undergone deformations and lack of neccessary skill to rebuild a society in exchange for their magic induced loyalty and strength. His empire was reduced to scavenging war camps and ancient ruins. He found himself physically changing over time as well, the old magics had taken him as a vessel, seeing him as the mortal leader of their followers.
  14.
  15. This forced Tavas to take refuge in one of the distant towers, erected to worship the essence scattered across Urnum, as they remained untouched in their desolate and remote locations. He commanded his empire of deformed cultists, maintaining power in small pockets across the world, waiting for years until something else might come along and rebuild the cities so he may take them.
  16.
  17. And after Many Centuries, offspring of the last rare Sylvalur called the humans, had populated the world, being sent out to rebuild while Tavas' forces hid away in the corners of Urnum. They created empires and kingdoms, warred with eachother and based on their ancestors stories, condemned old magic and worshipped the essence that Tavas fought against. With the human societies thriving in Urnum, Tavas sends his malformed hordes of followers to begin taking their lands.
