  1. Name: Tenjin
  2. AKA: Sugawara no Michizane
  3.
  4. Tenjin, as far as the lore goes, it the odd man out in the Amatsukami, for he has the distinction of being the only god to rise from mere mortal to their ranks.
  5.
  6. Once upon a time there had been a simple government worker, rising high and falling to treachery and plot. But shortly after his death the capital was struck by what could only be seen as wrath of the gods and maybe even the workers angry spirit. And thus the emperor himself ordered it placated by giving his memory a special place in his shrines. Over time, as his texts and poetry circulated, raising the regard for him even higher until finally the workers name was forgotten and there was only Tenjin, Kami of Scholarship.
  7.
  8. Now, the truth behind the matter may be more complicated. Theories are abound if Sugawara no Michizane had been the child of another Kami, a scion, who had ascended to full godhood. Or had Tenjin been around „forever“ like the other Kami and simply taken the form of Michizane to make himself a place in this world?
  9.
  10. The god of scholars only reaction have been cryptic Haiku on the matter.
  11.
  12. Scions of Tenjin have a tendency to be bookish, learning, with ambition to use it but a poetic heart at it. They tend to be the people who make things *work*, the trains run on time and write a nice poem about it.
  13. Like their divine progenitor they do have a tendency to attract people plotting against their rise a lot, though.
