  7. COMMENTS IN BRACKETS [] IS WHAT THE PLAYER IS DOING OR WHERE THEY ARE
  8.
  9. -----------------------------------------
  10.
  11. {How are you dealing with the plague?}
  12.
  13. Scorched near every sickly whoreson we've come across - so yeah, we're managing.
  14.
  15. Though their numbers don't seem to be dropping, they damn gain another two for every one we light up. Gods knows how many still live out there.
  16.
  17. An' we can't be sending any more lads out their way, don't want any more of us falling foul of this pox.
  18.
  19. This pox seems sentient, sparing those in the prime of their lives yet laying low the old and the very young.
  20.
  21. {Have you found a cure yet?}
  22.
  23. Just the usual concoctions to stave off the disease, nothing to have us rid of it yet. The priests are working tirelessly to brew up a remedy no doubt, yet I fear it may be too late when they do.
  24.
  25. {Need any help in the meantime?}
  26.
  27. How convenient, yes friend, we do need some help.
  28.
  29. You see, these orange skins aren't content with rotting away in some hole - they're turning vicious. Lashing out and coughing their lungs out on any who draws near.
  30.
  31. And that bile they vomit can burn down to the bone. We thought the gear the Kingdom supplied could protect us somewhat, but we soon learned otherwise.
  32.
  33. {Go on...}
  34.
  35. You may see where I'm going with this - had a friend who caught the worst of their venom, must have sprayed through his visor. Now he's vanished, and had no clue to where.. Till recently...
  36.
  37. News surfaced that he's cozening up with the sick just north of here, up in the ravine. Too many afflicted for us to do anything about it just yet.
  38.
  39. Now all we need is some information, get him to spill his agenda - and as you should expect, you're not to go bargin' in there sword in hand.
  40.
  41. So a friendly talk, all we ask - you capable of that?
  42.
  43.
  44.
  45. And as fate is often ironic, had taken the worst of their venom. We first saw the signs of him developing that bloated skin weeks ago.
  46.
  47. {So you just want me to talk with this rogue, right?}
  48.
  49. {Sure, I can do it}
  50.
  51. Gift of the gab, not the gift of the blade - keep it calm and it'll go smoothly. An' if that option's not open...
  52.
  53. Then take this, pop the flare if you sense trouble, high enough so we can see. I'll send the boys over to cover your escape. Good luck.
  54.
  55.
  56. {I'll have to decline, I'd rather not return diseased}
  57.
  58. I'll admit, it'd be something I'd refuse too - but if you're keen on entering this city, then there's no other way than doing good on this job.
  59.
  60. Know that the gates to evermore remain sealed as long as the those afflicted are present. You should return to Arnima if you want to keep your health.
  61.
  62. {The rogue attacked and I had to put him down}
  63.
  64.
  65. *Sigh* 'Course he would have, foolish of me to think he'd be any less bone headed than he was here. Surrounding himself with those who are on edge...
  66.
  67. {You'd knew he'd attack?}
  68.
  69. Not when I sent you, but mulling over this whole situation did put things in perspective. Should have known better than to send you alone, though then again, having an armed party attend wouldn't have made it any better.
  70.
  71. A reward, for what it's worth. Would have been happier if he'd told you what they've been planning.
  72.
  73. The gates are unlocked, hope I don't regret letting you inside - stay out of trouble and enjoy the luxuries of Evermore.
  74.
  75. {The Rogue said he needs some potions of health, it may help loosen his lips}
  76.
  77. I hope the information will be worth it, and we're not just giving them more munitions. Here take these.
  78.
  79. Only have a couple left, may need to put a word in to the city for a resupply.
  80.
  81. Alright, take 'em. Hope that information is worth it.
  82.
  83.
  84.
  85. {The rogue talked about amassing a force to harass the cities}
  86.
  87. Just as we suspected, he was a talented mage, such a pity that we're going to have to cut him down, as well as those that colluded with him.
  88.
  89. Damn fool, what does he hope to achieve in sending his sickly crew against the walls - does he wish for death?
  90.
  91. Now as per our orders, he has to be cut down - as well as those that colluded with him. We can't entertain even threat of this disease breaching this gate.
  92.
  93. Cheers for the help, I was hesitant that you'd perform this well, but here you are with everything I asked for.
  94.
  95. Have this for a good day's work, the gate's open to you for now - plenty of vices to blow your coin on in Evermore, you can trust me on that.
  96.
  97. The gate has been unlocked, make sure to not cause any trouble in there, and keep safe.
  98.
  99. The gate is unlocked for you now, you seem to be somewhat trustworthy, I hope I don't come to regret letting you in.
  100.
  101. {I decline}
  102.
  103. I'm sure many men would say the same, the offer is still open if you reconsider.
  104.
  105. [Scene where player returns to Guard after killing his friends]
  106.
  107. Halt, stay your feet. I told my boys to return with you, if they didn't then I'll know something went seriously wrong.
  108.
  109. So tell me, traitor. Have my friends turned invisible or are they dead?
  110.
  111. {Dead, as will you be}
  112.
  113. Should have set you alight when I had the chance. Burn scum!
  114.
  115. {I never did anything! They told me to go ahead while they secure the camp!}
  116.
  117. Got wax in your ears fool? I told them to COME BACK to me once they found you, we were going to burn their refuge to the ground once we got the call from the city.
  118.
  119. To think I would fall for those lies...
  120.
  121. Pathetic, I hope you carry your shame to oblivion. Now burn...
  122.
  123. [Scene where guard is startled by player, who is an Orc]
  124.
  125. Woah, wait Orc! I know how you want this to go down but I promise you that it wont end well for our friends if you come at me.
  126.
  127. {Breton pig, I'm going to enjoy gutting you.}
  128.
  129. You savages never surprise, do you? Come then, give me another green scalp for the belt.
  130.
  131. {Look Breton, I'm giving you a chance to turn tail and run. If I'm sent back up here again, I will strike you down. }
  132.
  133. Mercy? From an Orc? The moons must have aligned... I've got it too good in Evermore to drop it all for you. Damn, how am I gonna explain desertion this time.
  134.
  135.
  136. {Wait Breton, I need your amulet. With a little of your blood on it.}
  137.
  138. What? Why? If I lose this trinket then the boys back home will think I've dishonored their orders. We're supposed to protect this above all else. I could get hanged!
  139.
  140. {And the boys I know will think I let you live and betrayed our cause - now come on, hand it over before I change my mind.}
  141.
  142. Ugh... Alright, here take it. Bloody mara I'm gonna be in trouble.
  143.
  144.
  145. [Scene where player enters a town that has stopped Orcs from entering]
  146.
  147. Woah... What dungpit did you crawl from greenskin? You think you're getting into this town?! Haha, take another step and the only thing that'll be getting through this gate will be your degenerate skull on a pike.
  148.
  149. {I'm innocent, besides, is this a smart thing to do with Imperials in the area?}
  150.
  151. That a threat? Gonna run to your imp masters huh? We've been butchering your greenskin kind all in plain sight of those ponses for years.
  152.
  153.
  154. You're pissin' me off Orc, and I haven't swung my sword arm for a while.
  155.
  156. Let's see how you bleed.
  157.
  158.
  159.
  160.
  161. [Scene where a fellow knight approaches this NPC, where NPC informs knight of activity in nearby village]
  162.
  163. No noise from there except the wind, and they still continue their sulking. However they've picked up in activity within the mines..
  164.
  165. And the appearance of that rowboat, which must have come ashore in the dead of night. Other than that, nothing.
  166.
  167. Nothing out of the ordinary save one new quirk; that which involves the mine they've holed themselves up in.
  168.
  169. From what I could see, the peasants are spending more time within the mines instead of their homes - with brief stints outside, seemingly recovering from their condition then succumbing to it yet again hours later.
  170.
  171. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, I will hold the bridge to the best of my ability. Pray it goes smoothly.
  172.
  173. [Scene where soldier talks with lord of Arnima; town in the reach.]
  174.
  175. Merosa has become increasingly distressed following the rumors and supposed activity within this town. She has sought instruction from Sigmayne and his council: they are deliberating as we speak.
  176.
  177. To discuss the claim of this fiefdom, and your position in it. If you do not cease with the disruption of trade and harassment of merchants, then your privileges will be relinquished.
  178.
  179. Understood, I will part with your words so she can hear them.
  180.
  181. {Why is there a shrine for mara with Akavari architecture?}
  182.
  183. The akaviri stonework was discovered long before the building of raven.. I mean Arnima, probably from their early incursions into Tamriel.
  184.
  185. The Priests thought it would bring attention to the town to "pretty" it up, yet they needn't do that, as our lady Mara had her figure chiseled from the finest gold in the province.
  186.
  187. A pretty enough sight without the glitter.
  188.
  189. {Gold doesn't peel off...}
  190.
  191. Ha, why's it that people can't enjoy beauty for what it is, always gotta pry.
  192.
  193. {I'm sure it's the message that counts}
  194.
  195. That light you see if the Priests doing, minor alteration magic they say - though no magic is minor when it comes to those impotent in the art.
  196.
  197. Aye it does, there's only so much grey you can put up with, gold helps to break up the dullness of life.
  198.
  199. It also helps to attract Pilgrims from all temples in the land, meaning Arnima itself doesn't fade completely into obscurity either. Helps with the politics.
  200.
  201. Pilgrims come and go just to visit that shrine, and it means Arnima doesn't completely fade into obscurity when it comes to politics in the province.
  202.
  203. {Anything going on at this end of Evermore?}
  204.
  205. All is fine on this front, although one of our boys were supposed to set up camp not far from here. Hasn't reported back since yesterday.
  206.
  207. So if you see our man, tell him to hurry his ass back up here.
  208.
  209. And if you do go venturing out, be careful going pass Karthgran, dangerous folk on the road there.
  210.
  211. {I found your man, looks like some Exiles robbed him. Unfortunately he's dead}
  212.
  213. What?! Bastards! Tell me you dealt with them.
  214.
  215. {I did what I could}
  216.
  217. We find any more of their ilk around here and I'll see to be their personal executioner. Gods man, we just initiated that boy into the ranks and now the scum takes him from us.
  218.
  219. Glad you cleared this up for us, gonna need a moment to dwell on this.
  220.
  221.
  222.
  223. {Where can I find some work?}
  224.
  225. Heard the local clergyman, you know: Fenig - well he's been making a bother about a potential cure for that plague that dooms the west of this test. Grab his attention and ask if you can help, hopefully this time the cure works.
  226.
  227. Other than that, there's always Entemon. He's the one you'd like to see if you're of the mercenary stock, which from the looks of you, is a good judgement.
  228.
  229. Seen the state of Sabbat? Necromancer shields himself behind an army of our dead brothers and sisters in the mines, east of the hamlet - see if you can oust him from his hole. Get yourself a tall stack of coin for your deed.
  230.
  231. Wait, let me see your neck.... Nah, not an exile, a mercenary then? Same type of scum. Really wanna earn your coin then try the cemetary just north of the town - undertaker been having problems with the dead. *sigh* Another day in the reach.
  232.
  233. Just south of Arnima are the most dishonorable whoresons on Tamriel, you may have seen them already; Corsairs - all the way from Dragonstar. Redguard thieves that plague the great bjoulaise - Jackos has been making plans to kick their asses back into the river.
  234.
  235. And by the gods good graces, they'll drown in that river. If you're up for some retribution, then Jackos is the man you want to see.
  236.
  237. Priest has been looking for a fool to fetch a ring for him, no offense to the incredible man the ring belonged to but that quest is sure to end badly. Go find the priest in his temple if you're deadset on meeting your gods, if you get my drift.
  238.
  239. Evermore is a peaceful city, a civil city - we don't have any problems that warrant warriors to seek their fortunes. However, there are and will always be problems outside our walls.
  240.
  241. We have a bloke called Vaeser; Imperial emissary in Sigmayne's council. He most certainly has problems that could be solved with some muscle - few care what happens outside the city, most are busy with their vices, save for Vaeser - who's always hard at work.
  242.
  243. Hey, you're a knight, I should be asking you for work! But I see you're a fresh body within the ranks - maybe have a talk with horustair for anything that requires an extra blade.
  244.
  245. Kegor, our commander of arms, is agitated about something. Hasn't really disclosed what that agitation is about, though none of us have asked - see if he's willing to spill his mind to you.
  246.
  247. Ripped this bounty from the notice board, gotta have something to take your mind off guard work. Have a look.
  248.
  249.
  250. {Who is the lord here?}
  251.
  252. Governor*, and her name is Merosa - she's not keen on meeting strangers, especially those born in foreign lands, so speak with care. If there's a good first impression then she'll be more than welcome to hear any questions.
  253.
  254. {Can you take me back to skyrim?}
  255.
  256. Got the gold to make this trip worth my time? Hay for the horse, oil for the wheels, food for myself...
  257.
  258. {On second thoughts...}
  259.
  260. You shouldn't waste other people's time.
  261.
  262. {Yes, just take me back}
  263.
  264. Someone's in a hurry, fine, hop abroad and get comfortable. It's a long trip.
  265.
  266. [Scene where NPC argues with merchant in town]
  267.
  268. It's always Evermore, never us that you care about. Why is that merchant? Gold more important than blood huh? And nah, we're keeping the whole lot of it.
  269.
  270. Besides, the Inn stopped selling quality ale a good while ago, nothing but piss pints now.
  271.
  272. Hear hear, now we're a generous lot, so your horse and whatever rags your wrapped in are all yours - and this is only temporary so don't feel too glum.
  273.
  274. Ha, too right. Been ages since we've had a good drink. Could probably buy a whole fortnights worth of rum on your behalf merchant. Those ponses at Evermore will have to wait for their next batch of fancy jewelry.
  275.
  276. Yeah, bugger off before we get ol' morty involved.
  277.
  278. {Hey, that merchant looked distraught over this cart. I'm sure you're just keeping it here temporarily right?}
  279.
  280. What are you? His lover? We're just assessing any items that may be sold as munitions for our enemies. The rest of it may be distributed to the people of Arnima to help their suffering, we're doing a good thing.
  281.
  282. [Persuade - Success]
  283.
  284. What succubus did you have to kill for that magic tongue? Alright, tell the merchant to grab his stuff. Gods know this town doesn't need more enemies.
  285.
  286. [Persuade - Fail]
  287.
  288. Ha, you best piss off through that gate with your lover - or I can get serious and have both your hands on display in the middle of town.
  289.
  290. [CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER GUARDS]
  291.
  292. What I would do to get into Evermore, finally settle down and live easy.
  293.
  294. Wish I could be one of the fortunate sods that lives in Evermore, anything beats this.
  295.
  296. Who doesn't want to live in Evermore? Even Oblivion itself starts to look appealing after a day in this swamp.
  297.
  298. Good luck with that, they only let in those rich snobs now. Everyone else has to fend for themselves.
  299.
  300. Can't believe how much it costs to live there though, ever since the plague hit the city practically shut its gates to us Reachmen.
  301.
  302. I don't think anyone in the reach has the coin to live there, those who do are already comfortable behind those walls.
  303.
  304. They're just a bunch of ponses, hiding behind us, it's the common folks spilled blood that allows the rich to live in peace, and denial.
  305.
  306. Not everyone is so lucky, besides, their safety depends entirely on us risking our lives. I'm sure some of them are grateful for that.
  307.
  308.
  309. Aren't you worried about the plague?
  310.
  311. Do you think the Afflicted will ever attack? What if they join up with those Witchmen?
  312.
  313. Nah, we have men outside the walls that can handle it. Plus that fancy magic from the priests, we'll be fine.
  314.
  315. We're more than safe behind these walls, just feel sorry for those unlocky sods in the reach. Witchmen, Orcs and even their dead. Grim times.
  316.
  317. Redguard thieves, bloodthirsty Orcs and now even the dead come for us?!
  318.
  319. Don't worry, we'll find the bastard who did this, and we'll feed him to the dogs. The souls of Sabbat wont be at peace until we do.
  320.
  321. This realm just keeps getting bleaker by the day. Why do you think the gods have stopped answering our prayers?
  322.
  323. What makes you think they were ever listening?
  324.
  325. [GUARD TERRIFIED BECAUSE OF DAEDRIC REALM, TALKS TO PLAYER]
  326.
  327. Where in oblivion are we friend? Stendarr give me strength! I hope you know where to go.
  328.
  329.
  330. [CRUEL GUARD TALKS TO SERF]
  331.
  332. That coin is going to a better cause, for the realm and the god appointed lord, so that this land doesn't descend into chaos. Are you so selfish to forgo our welfare just for another loaf of bread?
  333.
  334. And if those whispers become loud enough that I happen to overhear them, then we will be seeing more heads adorn the pikes; only one way to reason with rebellious scum, and it's not with mercy.
  335.
  336. Now get back to your duties, serf. Lest my temper sours further.
  337.
  338. [NEUTRAL GUARD TALKS TO SERF]
  339.
  340. Sometimes I yearn for those simpler times where a cold winter was the worst of our concerns - returning to those days with a rake in hand rather than a sword.
  341.
  342. Pardon my blasphemy, but that title would hold water in any other kingdom - those recently knighted; vagabonds, scoundrels and other miscreants now make up that once extolled rank.
  343.
  344. A mirror to the decadence of our capital wouldn't you say? Not much virtue in culture and tradition when coin brings a more immediate relief from our mutual mortal turmoil.
  345.
  346. [REGRETFUL GUARD TALKS TO SERF]
  347.
  348. I just can't get used to it, Evermore has become so wealthy, if you saw this city some 30 years ago you would have thought that a dragon break had taken place.
  349.
  350. It's just not natural, to change so suddenly, where did all the wealth come from? Why is the reach so distinct? - like an ever pervading squalor that you can never erase.
  351.
  352. Watch it! There's good men back there, just brought down by a whole slew of bad..... *Sigh* You must be right though, this is a just world after all, no one would suffer if they didn't deserve it right?
  353.
  354. [Scene where Guard hassles merchant for his supplies]
  355.
  356. It's always Evermore, never us that you care about. Why is that merchant? Gold more important than blood huh? And nah, we're keeping the whole lot - don't want any contraband slippin' through.
  357.
  358. Besides, the Inn stopped selling quality ale a good while ago, nothing but piss pints now.
  359.
  360. Hear hear, now we're a generous lot, so your horse and whatever rags your wrapped in are all yours - and this is only temporary so don't feel too glum.
  361.
  362.
  363.
  364. [MISC DIALOGUE]
  365.
  366. Shouldn't have ran through that portal.
  367.
  368. Hope I make it out of here, can't die in a hole like this.
  369.
  370.
  371.
  372.
  373.
  374.
  375.
  376. [NPC ATTEMPTS TO ARREST PLAYER]
  377.
  378. {I'd rather die than go to jail!}
  379. Ha, as you wish.
  380.
  381. {Fine, I'll pay my bounty.}
  382. Be thankful there is a bounty to pay off. Next time it’s off with your hands.
  383.
  384. {I submit, take me to Jail.}
  385. You're going to be rat food soon enough, scum.
  386.
  387.
  388. In the name of King Sigmayne, halt and submit!
  389.
  390.
  391. [NPC REACTS TO PLAYER STEALING]
  392. Brainless criminal, I'll cut those hands off!
  393.
  394. [NPC DYING WORDS]
  395. Mara..Take me..
  396. Peace...
  397.
  398. [NPC REACTS TO FRIENDS DEATH]
  399. You murdering bastard!
  400. You'll bleed for that.
  401.
  402. [NPC ATTACKED]
  403. Bollocks!
  404. Ugh!
  405. Crafty bugger.
  406. Mara save me!
  407. Agh!
  408. Fool!
  409.
  410. [NPC BLOCKING ATTACKS]
  411. Childs play.
  412. It'll take more than that.
  413.
  414. [NPC BLEEDING OUT, ON KNEES]
  415. Stendarr ... give me strength.
