  1. Developing awareness of nutrition-related concepts from a young age and properly cultivating this knowledge throughout childhood is fundamental in ensuring a child maintains a healthy lifestyle. Research has shown that children as young as 3 years of age can benefit from nutritional education, and at 5 years are able to express what they’ve learned through differentiating healthy and unhealthy foods (In-text reference). If a child is capable of identifying which foods are nutritious, then they are able to have a direct impact on their own health and wellbeing, as well as influencing others to do the same. Not only will proper education allow for children to gain a further understanding of healthy dietary habits, but it will also allow researchers and educators to detect where a child’s understanding of nutrition is weak, to more effectively implement educational initiatives to target childhood obesity. Thus far, researchers have been able to determine ((that children are weak in food preparation and muesli bars))
