Doesn't the dark imply bad?
No, in this case it only implies hidden from view. This is intentional because it would not make sense for Google to index sites that users cannot connect to without special software. You can however find and browse onion sites on google through the Tor2Web project. Aaron Swartz was one of the creators of Tor2Web.
