- >Your eyes flutter lazily as the last rays of daylight cast their image softly on the side of your office wall.
- >Slumping forward in your desk, you nearly nod off.
- >But before your forehead can meet your desktop, you snap back to attention and focus your gaze on the calendar to your right.
- >You nod, making a silent resolution and get back to balancing Roseluck's accounts.
- >It had been quite a while since the two of you had become an item.
- >Funny enough, you met whilst you were shopping for a present for Rarity.
- >You had managed to snag a date with the purple-maned fashionista after days of pleading and weeks of saving bits in order to take her someplace fancy enough to woo her.
- >You had stopped by Rose's flower shop to buy a bouquet.
- >You were pulling out all the stops.
- >It turned out that you and Rose hit it off right from the start and, after a woefully terrible date with Rarity, you took a week-long breather and then asked Rose out.
- >The two of you had a whirlwind romance, finding comfort in each other's embrace and simple pleasures.
- >It wasn't long before your love turned intimate and you quickly found yourself moved into Rose's humble abode.
- >You starting helping her out around the shop, taking care of the accounting and business aspects of her small operation.
- >She was ever-grateful for your help, as it allowed her more time to spend with her precious flowers.
- >You loved seeing her smile.
- >Especially when it was midst of making passionate love to one another.
- >Of course, kids were the farthest thing from your mind at the time.
- >You assumed that, being different species, conception was impossible.
- >But love works in mysterious ways and, before you knew it, Rose was getting morning sickness and craving hayseed ice cream topped with fried pickles.
- >As if on cue, your evening musings are interrupted by your door bursting open.
- >In bounds an adorable little satyr, her strawberry pink and tea green hair and tail rippling in the wake of her march up to you.
- >"Hi, Daddy!" she shouts triumphantly.
- "Hey, honey."
- >You smile and ruffle her hair, pushing your checkbook and ledger out of the way.
- >Chrysanthemum approaches you, her head coming up nearly to your chest while you're seated.
- >You reach down, hoist her up, and set her down on your lap.
- "So Chrys, how was school today?"
- >Chrysanthemum turns her head in response to her nickname, one you gave her shortly after Rose picked her full name.
- >You delegated the naming of your child to Roseluck almost directly after hearing that she would be a mare.
- >It was a bit of a shock, even to you, when you realized that you'd always wanted a son.
- >Someone to carry on the family name...
- >Although, you still aren't sure if that's even how it works here.
- >It turned out that Rose's choice of name was perfect because you could always just shorter Chrysanthemum to Chrys.
- >Rose would shorten her name to Ann, in a playful attempt to counter-balance your masculine nickname with a feminine one.
- >Of course, you still loved your beautiful little girl.
- >The one giggling serenely in your lap right now.
- >She waves a hand in front of your zoned-out visage and pouts cutely.
- >"Daddy, are you even listening?"
- >You snap out of your half-daydream half-memory.
- "I'm sorry, honey. Daddy was thinking about something. What were you saying?"
- >"I said school was fine," she nods.
- >Always the dreaded answer, you chuckle to yourself and try to coax a little more out of her.
- "So, what did you do then?"
- >You bounce her slightly on your knee and rub her back.
- >"Hmm... nothing..." she says, tilting her head in thought.
- >You sigh, but keep your smile, turning to press your lips to her forehead and set her back down on the ground.
- "Nothing, huh?"
- >She nods.
- >You smirk and call out through your open door to the storefront where Rose busies herself with her plants.
- "Did you hear that, Rose? Chrys here isn't learning anything in school. She's getting smarter all by herself."
- >Rose calls back, matching your jovial tone. "Is that right? I always knew our little Ann was a smart girl."
- "She sure is. Maybe we should pull her out of school, save the bits, and to go visit Canterlot."
- >At the mere mention of the elegant city, Chrysanthemum's light green eyes sparkle.
- >You take notice and kneel down to her, rubbing her cheek.
- "Now sweetheart, you know how important Mommy and Daddy have told you that school is..."
- >She nods meekly and you plant a kiss on the top of her head. "I know, Daddy."
- "And I promise, one day soon we'll take a trip to Canterlot and go wherever you want, okay?"
- >She flashes a smile and nods.
- "Now go see if your mother's ready to go out for dinner."
- >You watch as she skips out of your office and into the shop.
- >Glancing at the assortment of papers on your desk and the date on the calendar, you smile feebly.
- >If you avoided going crazy on Hearthswarming events and drummed up some business during the holiday, you might just make it in time.
- >You and Rose might have to eat light for the next week or two but, with any luck, you'll be celebrating Christmas in Canterlot.
- >Getting up and walking to the exit of your office, you pause briefly at the doorway before hitting the lights.
- "One day soon."
