  1. You hold your talisman tightly and concentrate on summoning your squirrel.
  2.
  3. With a soft chitter, a sleek squirrel arrives and raises itself onto its hind legs, looking up at you.
  4.
  5. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  6. The sleek squirrel scampers off.
  7.
  8. You sense that your familiar has caught up with Xelten and you concentrate on its vision...
  9. It's pitch dark and you can't see a thing!
  10.
  11. It's pitch dark and you can't see a thing!
  12.
  13. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.

  15.
  16. Xelten glances at a sleek squirrel.
  17. Xelten glances at a sleek squirrel.
  18.
  19. You sense your sleek squirrel sit down.
  20.
  21. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  22. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  23.
  24. From the darkness you hear a voice ask, "I do not see many squirrels here. To whom do you belong?"
  25.
  26. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  27. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "My mistress says she is your daughter."
  28.
  29. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  30. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  31.
  32. From the darkness you hear a voice say, "I have many of those."
  33.
  34. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  35. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "My mistress is confused. She thought she was only one of two?"
  36.
  37. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  38.
  39. From the darkness you hear a voice ask in Ilithic, "Do you know where I am, my dear?"
  40.
  41. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  42.
  43. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  44. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "She does not. She says it is difficult to see through the darkness."
  45.
  46. From the darkness you hear a voice say in Ilithic, "Then allow me to illuminate."
  47.
  48. Xelten holds a ruby-eyed gaethzen phoenix in his hand and closes his eyes in concentration.
  49.
  50. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "There. How about now?"
  51.
  52. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  53. You concentrate on the vision of your familiar...
  54. The light from Xelten's gaethzen phoenix allows you to see...
  55.
  56. [Hidden Cave]
  57. A sizable niche is carved into the earth, useful for either storage or protection from the harsh elements above. At the back of the cave, an ironwood shelf is positioned beside a sturdy steel chest, and above them hangs an aged iron sconce. You also see a dimly lit hole.

  59. Also here: Xelten who is sitting.
  60. Obvious exits: none.
  61.
  62. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  63.
  64. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  65. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "Is this a cave my mistress can reach safely?"
  66.
  67. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  68.
  69. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  70.
  71. The rain falls harder and is now a heavy downpour.
  72.
  73. You glance up at the sky.
  74. It's raining heavily.
  75.
  76. Xelten says in Ilithic, "It must have been decades since you were here, I suspect. Safely... that depends on how much you have grown. The climb is not easy."
  77.
  78. [Shard, Ruby Street]
  79. Ruby Street cuts through the heart of the only section of Shard that survived the wars with the Dragon Priests, a fact that is readily apparent in the antique appearance of most of the shops here. One inn built of seasoned wood seems to be the main attraction of this section of the lane, a cherrywood sign painted with a black rose hanging over the door. Young children of the streetrat persuasion scamper past as they run out of or into a side street that leads to the inn's stableyard.
  80. Obvious paths: north, south.
  81.
  82. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  83.
  84. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  85. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "My mistress advises that climbing is not a favorite pasttime of a lady."
  86.
  87. Xelten smirks.
  88.
  89. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "I am in Ilithi, at any rate. Where are you?"
  90.
  91. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  92.
  93. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  94. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "My mistress is outside Milene's, but is willing to travel for your comfort."
  95.
  96. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Meet me west of the city. I will show you the way."
  97.
  98. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  99.
  100. (Travel)
  101.
  102. You run west.
  103. [Shard, West City Gates]
  104. Glossy black and opaque, the diamondique West Gates of the city gleam alongside the brightly burnished armor of its guards. The crystal walls are equally bright, all resulting in a whole that would be blinding were they any more perfect or the sun any more bright. You also see a Shard sentinel, the Sentinel Kureta, a ladder to the top of the wall and a prominent warning sign.
  105. Obvious paths: north, east, south.
  106.
  107. You pass by the sharp gaze of the Sentinel Kureta who is guarding the city gate.
  108. She says, "Farewell, Madam Asilyia. Safe journeying!."
  109. [Shard, West Bridge]
  110. The walls of Shard gleam with an inner light rivaling the sun for magnificence, the carefully cut crystal reflecting and refracting light in amazing patterns. Wyvern Mountain rises up in the west, a huge shadow against the daytime sky.
  111. Obvious paths: west.
  112.
  113.
  114. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  115.
  116. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  117.
  118. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  119.
  120. You hold your talisman tightly as you concentrate . . .
  121. The sleek squirrel squeaks, "I will follow, if you lead."
  122.
  123. Xelten nods.
  124.
  125. Xelten puts his phoenix in his hooded longcoat.
  126.
  127. Xelten rises to his feet fluidly, like a large, graceful cat.
  128.
  129. Xelten gestures.
  130.
  131. In the blink of an eye, Xelten disappears into his surroundings.
  132.
  133. You sense your sleek squirrel stand back up.
  134.
  135. You sense that your familiar is traveling.
  136.
  137. With a waver like a mirage, Xelten fades into view.
  138. You notice as a sleek squirrel scampers into the area.
  139.
  140. [Shard, West Bridge]
  141. The walls of Shard gleam with an inner light rivaling the sun for magnificence, the carefully cut crystal reflecting and refracting light in amazing patterns. Wyvern Mountain rises up in the west, a huge shadow against the daytime sky. You also see a sleek squirrel.
  142. Also here: Xelten.
  143. Obvious paths: west.
  144.
  145. Xelten catches you up in a fierce embrace, swinging you around exuberantly.
  146.
  147. The sleek squirrel sits down.
  148.
  149. You pull Xelten to you in a tight hug.
  150.
  151. Xelten grins.
  152.
  153. You beam at Xelten!
  154.
  155. It has been 434 years, 184 days since the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer.
  156. It is the 5th month of Uthmor the Giant in the year of the Silver Unicorn.
  157. It is currently summer and it is mid-afternoon.
  158. You're guessing it's almost the Anlas of Meraud's Cloak.
  159.
  160. Xelten gently kisses you on the forehead.
  161.
  162. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  163.
  164. You say to Xelten in Ilithic, "Hello, Father."
  165.
  166. You smile.
  167.
  168. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Come, let me show you the way."
  169.
  170. You nod.
  171.
  172. You smile.
  173.
  174. You join Xelten's group.
  175.
  176. You follow Xelten west.
  177. [Shard, West Bridge]
  178. The Lake of Tears stretches out below and to the sides of this causeway, surrounding the city of Shard and serving as its oldest defender. Wyvern Mountain dominates the landscape west beyond the Journey's Rest.
  179. Also here: Xelten.
  180. Obvious paths: east, west.
  181.
  182.
  183.
  184. Xelten's group climbed up a long earthen stairway penetrating the trees.
  185. [Crystal Forest, Secluded Clearing]
  186. Perched high in the mountains, a clearing surrounded by thick snow-covered trees provides a breathtaking view. In spite of constantly frigid conditions, the sound of a short waterfall gives way to a swift unfrozen stream which rushes down a nearby slope and away from the icy summit. Steam rises from the water, evidence to its origin beneath the bitter surface of the Dragon's Spine, and bits of precious vegetation hold onto life in the damp ground. You also see a gargantuan rowan tree bearing a number of scraggly squirrel's nests in its branches, a rocky byway, a long earthen stairway penetrating the trees, a fieldstone cabin and a spacious aspen lodge.
  187. Also here: Xelten.
  188. Obvious paths: northeast, northwest.
  189.
  190.
  191. Your squirrel talisman makes the climb more difficult.
  192. Xelten's group climbed up a rocky byway.
  193. [Dragon's Spine, Rivyn's Rise]
  194. From this towering vantage, it is easy to see just how colossal the Dragon's Spine -- and how expansive Greater Ilithi -- really is. The treetops seem to fall for eternity like frozen tears into the basin of Wyvern Road far below, while the city of Shard floats, as if by some magic, on its lake to the southeast. Deep to the south, the mountains and valleys swallowed by the Dark Hand appear to move with an unnatural life as the corrupted child of Nature waits for its moment to expand again. You also see a pile of rubble, a rocky byway and a fortified black granite chateau flanked by tall spires.
  195. Also here: Xelten.
  196. Obvious paths: none.
  197.
  198. Room Number: 6461
  199.
  200. You notice as a sleek squirrel scampers into the area.
  201.
  202. Xelten searches around for a moment.
  203.
  204. Xelten's group went through an inconspicuous hole.
  205.
  206. It's pitch dark and you can't see a thing!
  207.
  208. You feel fully rested.
  209. You notice as a sleek squirrel scampers into the room.
  210.
  211. Xelten gets a ruby-eyed gaethzen phoenix from inside his hooded longcoat.
  212.
  213. Xelten holds a ruby-eyed gaethzen phoenix in his hand and closes his eyes in concentration.
  214.
  215. Xelten takes a seat.
  216.
  217. You put your talisman in your hooded cloak.
  218.
  219. You smile.
  220.
  221. You say in Ilithic, "This is nice."
  222.
  223. You look around, trying to appear nonchalant.
  224. The light from Xelten's gaethzen phoenix allows you to see...
  225.
  226. [Hidden Cave]
  227. A sizable niche is carved into the earth, useful for either storage or protection from the harsh elements above. At the back of the cave, an ironwood shelf is positioned beside a sturdy steel chest, and above them hangs an aged iron sconce. You also see a sleek squirrel and a dimly lit hole.
  228. Also here: Xelten who is sitting.
  229. Obvious exits: none.
  230.
  231. Room Number: 13104
  232.
  233. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Cozy, is it not?"
  234.
  235. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Do you remember it now?"
  236.
  237. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  238.
  239. You shake your head.
  240.
  241. You say in Ilithic, "My memory must not be so great."
  242.
  243. You sigh.
  244.
  245. Xelten says in Ilithic, "That is all right. As you saw on the way, it is just under my ancestral home, though that has been usurped as well."
  246.
  247. You nod.
  248.
  249. You frown.
  250.
  251. The sleek squirrel sits down.
  252.
  253. You say in Ilithic, "That is too bad."
  254.
  255. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  256.
  257. You say in Ilithic, "My memory is hazy, but I recall it being a very nice home."
  258.
  259. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  260.
  261. Xelten smiles.
  262.
  263. Xelten says in Ilithic, "That is, of course, on the Sargenis side. The Tyrsin side would, I suspect, be chillier still."
  264.
  265. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  266.
  267. You give a slight nod.
  268.
  269. You gaze down at the floor.
  270.
  271. You say in Ilithic, "Yes, I received your letter with the family history. It was... not as I expected."
  272.
  273. Xelten cocks his head at you.
  274.
  275. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Are you disappointed?"
  276.
  277. You shrug.
  278.
  279. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  280.
  281. You ask in Ilithic, "A little?"
  282.
  283. You say in Ilithic, "But mostly just because it was a surprise."
  284.
  285. You sigh.
  286.
  287. You say in Ilithic, "I always thought our family was pureblood. But we cannot change our ancestors, I suppose."
  288.
  289. Xelten narrows his eyes.
  290.
  291. You gaze at Xelten.
  292.
  293. You say in Ilithic, "I mean no offense."
  294.
  295. You say in Ilithic, "I... I'm sure they were lovely."
  296.
  297. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am only offended by the poor quality of your teachers."
  298.
  299. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Do not worry. You are every bit your mother's daughter, and it is her echo that the Court will see when they look at you. But there is clearly much that you do not know about who we are."
  300.
  301. You ask Xelten in Ilithic, "Perhaps you could... enlighten me?"
  302.
  303. You gaze at Xelten.
  304.
  305. Xelten rises to his feet fluidly, like a large, graceful cat.
  306.
  307. Xelten says to you in Ilithic, "First and foremost, the purity of the Mountain lies in our convictions, our ambition, and our skill to persevere."
  308.
  309. You give a slight nod.
  310.
  311. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  312.
  313. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Secondly, the People are the People, no matter how they have grown and adapted. We are all born from the Mother and the Father."
  314.
  315. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  316.
  317. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Thirdly, the Mountain is but a child compared to some of the other clans. We came from the Wind, running the plains, long before we learned to delve in stone."
  318.
  319. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  320.
  321. You nod.
  322.
  323. You say in Ilithic, "Yes, I learned of that in my lessons."
  324.
  325. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  326.
  327. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Take the strength that our people have learned in these places, but take also the strength that came before. That includes the Snow, for you, which is a gift few of our kind will ever know."
  328.
  329. You fidget nervously.
  330.
  331. You nod.
  332.
  333. You say in Ilithic, "I... I will keep that in mind."
  334.
  335. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  336.
  337. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Stagnant empires crumble to dust. Use what you have to be better than that. We are pure Elves, and that is all the purity you need."
  338.
  339. You say in Ilithic, "Mother was very thorough in her lessons about the origins of our people. It is merely the... the political associations that made me concerned."
  340.
  341. You sigh.
  342.
  343. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  344.
  345. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "How so?"
  346.
  347. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  348. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  349.
  350. You say in Ilithic, "Mother is of nobility within the Mountain. I worried it would affect the way they view me."
  351.
  352. You hesitantly say in Ilithic, "I am still learning about all the political aspects of the world. It is all still new to me."
  353.
  354. You sigh.
  355.
  356. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  357.
  358. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Less you forget, my father was of a major house as well, and there was no issue with him marrying a half-Snowborn."
  359.
  360. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  361.
  362. You give a slight nod.
  363.
  364. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  365.
  366. You say in Ilithic, "That is good, then."
  367.
  368. You say to Xelten in Ilithic, "I am sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to."
  369.
  370. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  371.
  372. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Study your history well. The Mountain has no qualms with its allied clans, and the Queen knows well the value of integrating that which makes us stronger. You do not offend me; I am only concerned for your well-being, and I would not see your potential stunted by misinformation."
  373.
  374. Xelten smiles.
  375.
  376. You say in Ilithic, "That is my fault, I suppose. I... never showed my mother your letter. I was so surprised, I was afraid to tell her. Perhaps she would have explained, had I done so."
  377.
  378. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  379.
  380. nag asil
  381. Don't you get enough of that from your mother?
  382.
  383. Xelten hugs you, and you wrap your arms around him with a warm smile.
  384.
  385. You hug Xelten who wraps his arms around you with a warm smile. A faint scent of fresh water clings to his skin.
  386.
  387. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Forgive me. You did not come to me for a lecture."
  388.
  389. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  390.
  391. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  392.
  393. You say in Ilithic, "No, it has been so long, I... I was curious to see you."
  394.
  395. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  396. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  397.
  398. Xelten says in Ilithic, "You seem to be doing well. You have grown a bit since last I saw you. It is a shame that you could not have come with Casari and me on my last trip. I suspect you would have found it fascinating."
  399.
  400. You smile at Xelten.
  401.
  402. You say in Ilithic, "I trust I would have. My training has simply... taken me in a different direction, it seems."
  403.
  404. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "And what direction is that?"
  405.
  406. You say in Ilithic, "I was in Crossing for some time, but it was difficult, being under my mother's shadow. I decided to go to Therenborough to train, as it is somewhere she has not spent as much time."
  407.
  408. [Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am sure you know, but be mindful of the Therengians."
  409.
  410. You nod to Xelten.
  411.
  412. You say in Ilithic, "I have heard stories."
  413.
  414. You say in Ilithic, "They really do seem quite dull."
  415.
  416. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Dullness aside... There are places where my name would be an ally to you, but that place is one where it would be a knife in your back."
  417.
  418. You nod.
  419.
  420. You say in Ilithic, "I have mostly tried not to speak to people there."
  421.
  422. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Wise. So what have you been training there?"
  423.
  424. You say in Ilithic, "Fighting, mostly. I have been hunting the vines and creepers."
  425.
  426. You smile at Xelten.
  427.
  428. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  429.
  430. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I recall that part of my life well. Watch out for the gypsies, though."
  431.
  432. You nod in agreement.
  433.
  434. You say in Ilithic, "Yes, they are troublesome."
  435.
  436. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  437.
  438. You nibble your lip thoughtfully.
  439.
  440. You ask in Ilithic, "You mean the Marauders, right?"
  441.
  442. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  443.
  444. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  445.
  446. Xelten says in Ilithic, "And the rest of their clan."
  447.
  448. You nod to Xelten.
  449.
  450. You say in Ilithic, "Of course."
  451.
  452. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  453.
  454. You hesitantly ask in Ilithic, "I just meant... there are other kind of gypsies that are not so bad, I think?"
  455.
  456. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Such as?"
  457.
  458. You ask in Ilithic, "The ones from Taisgath?"
  459.
  460. Xelten scoffs.
  461.
  462. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  463.
  464. You gaze at Xelten.
  465.
  466. Xelten says in Ilithic, "They can seem all right. Some can be all right. But I would not trust them."
  467.
  468. You hesitantly ask in Ilithic, "No?"
  469.
  470. You fidget nervously.
  471.
  472. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Fateweavers can bend one way and snap back the other before you know it. Lunar mages are chaotic enough, but none moreso than they."
  473.
  474. You quietly say in Ilithic, "Oh..."
  475.
  476. You quietly say in Ilithic, "I... I did not know that."
  477.
  478. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I gather you must have befriended one."
  479.
  480. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  481.
  482. You give Xelten a slight nod.
  483.
  484. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  485.
  486. You say in Ilithic, "Just friends, but... they... seem nice."
  487.
  488. You sigh.
  489.
  490. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  491.
  492. Xelten says in Ilithic, "A man, then."
  493.
  494. You blink.
  495.
  496. You ask in Ilithic, "What makes you think that?"
  497.
  498. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  499.
  500. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Unless there is something else I do not know about you, then you would not have emphasized mere friendship for a woman."
  501.
  502. You say in Ilithic, "Oh."
  503.
  504. You say in Ilithic, "Well, it's just..."
  505.
  506. You say in Ilithic, "People assume, because.."
  507.
  508. You say in Ilithic, "Well, I'm a girl..."
  509.
  510. You shrug.
  511.
  512. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "And he is male?"
  513.
  514. You gaze down at the floor.
  515.
  516. You nod.
  517.
  518. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Tell me of him."
  519.
  520. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  521. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  522.
  523. You say in Ilithic, "Well... we are friends. He... he took me around Therenborough and... and showed me Throne City."
  524.
  525. You say in Ilithic, "He helped guard me when I had to go to Throne City for a guild mission."
  526.
  527. You nibble your lip thoughtfully.
  528.
  529. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  530.
  531. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Noble of him."
  532.
  533. You nod at Xelten, in complete agreement with his views.
  534.
  535. You say in Ilithic, "I thought it was rather kind of him."
  536.
  537. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Where did you meet him?"
  538.
  539. You say in Ilithic, "And he stayed with me to make sure I was safe when the Gorbesh attacked..."
  540.
  541. You clear your throat.
  542.
  543. You say in Ilithic, "Well..."
  544.
  545. You ask in Ilithic, "You have spoken to my mother?"
  546.
  547. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  548.
  549. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I have."
  550.
  551. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  552.
  553. You ask Xelten in Ilithic, "Did you... did you meet Ez?"
  554.
  555. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I did."
  556.
  557. You say in Ilithic, "My friend is... is Ez's cousin. He is from Elamiri, but... is my age. A few years older."
  558.
  559. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "A fateweaver from Elamiri?"
  560.
  561. You nod to Xelten.
  562.
  563. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  564.
  565. You say in Ilithic, "He does magic tricks with cards."
  566.
  567. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Why did you deflect my question?"
  568.
  569. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  570.
  571. You gaze at Xelten.
  572.
  573. You ask in Ilithic, "Which question?"
  574.
  575. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  576.
  577. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Where did you meet him? Mind you, steering conversation is a valuable skill, but I have been at it for a bit longer than you."
  578.
  579. You say in Ilithic, "Oh... that."
  580.
  581. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  582.
  583. You say in Ilithic, "Well, Ez introduced us a few months ago. We were all having breakfast in Arthe Dale and Ez invited him, since he was in the area."
  584.
  585. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  586.
  587. You say in Ilithic, "He travels a lot."
  588.
  589. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  590.
  591. You say in Ilithic, "My friend does."
  592.
  593. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I was never much a fan of the food in Arthe Dale."
  594.
  595. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  596.
  597. You shrug.
  598.
  599. You say in Ilithic, "I have eaten worse, I suppose."
  600.
  601. You say in Ilithic, "It was... pleasant."
  602.
  603. You fidget nervously.
  604.
  605. Xelten smiles.
  606.
  607. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am in no position to judge your taste in men, Asilyia. Do not worry of my disapproval in this matter. As long as your mother approves, that is well enough for me."
  608.
  609. You blink at Xelten.
  610.
  611. You say in Ilithic, "Oh... but we... we are only friends."
  612.
  613. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I find that unlikely."
  614.
  615. You gawk at Xelten.
  616.
  617. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  618.
  619. You worriedly ask in Ilithic, "Why do you say that?"
  620.
  621. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Your mannerisms are too much like your mother's, and I have seen her worried more times than I would care to admit."
  622.
  623. You scratch your head.
  624.
  625. You ask in Ilithic, "What makes you think I am worried?"
  626.
  627. You fold your arms across your chest.
  628.
  629. You cough.
  630.
  631. (Asilyia looks uncomfortable.)
  632.
  633. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  634.
  635. Xelten says in Ilithic, "A solid effort, but a bit late."
  636.
  637. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  638.
  639. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  640.
  641. Xelten says in Ilithic, "You must lead with the confident tone and distract from any anxieties you may harbor."
  642.
  643. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  644.
  645. You nibble your lip thoughtfully.
  646.
  647. You sigh.
  648.
  649. You ask Xelten in Ilithic, "You are not angry?"
  650.
  651. You say to Xelten in Ilithic, "Please don't tell my mother... yet."
  652.
  653. You fret.
  654.
  655. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  656.
  657. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Oh, I see."
  658.
  659. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am not angry that you are a woman, Asilyia. I am a tad disappointed that you have not discussed this with your mother, however. She should be your anchor in all matters, or at least there is no one else I would trust to be so."
  660.
  661. Xelten says in Ilithic, "You must care deeply for him, or at least still be blinded by the new sensation."
  662.
  663. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  664. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  665.
  666. You ask in Ilithic, "It is just... we are still mostly just friends? If that makes sense?"
  667.
  668. You say in Ilithic, "I don't want mother to worry if... if there is no need."
  669.
  670. You say in Ilithic, "But I do like him. He is very sweet."
  671.
  672. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I have been on the other side of where you are standing a few times. I understand. And so would she."
  673.
  674. You give a slight nod.
  675.
  676. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Bear in mind, when she cautions you, it is because she does understand far more than you have yet ascertained."
  677.
  678. You give a slight nod.
  679.
  680. You gaze down at the floor.
  681.
  682. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  683.
  684. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Chin up. That is no look for an Evyntine, of that I can assure you."
  685.
  686. You smile at Xelten.
  687.
  688. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  689.
  690. You say in Ilithic, "It is just a bit... of an unusual subject."
  691.
  692. You say in Ilithic, "I'm not used to... to having male friends."
  693.
  694. You nibble your lip thoughtfully.
  695.
  696. Xelten smirks.
  697.
  698. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Do not mistake me. If he wrongs you, I will rend his family up and down."
  699.
  700. You gaze at Xelten.
  701.
  702. Xelten says in Ilithic, "It is my duty, after all."
  703.
  704. You give a slight nod.
  705.
  706. You nervously say in Ilithic, "I... I hope that is not necessary."
  707.
  708. Xelten says in Ilithic, "It will be less likely to be necessary if you speak with your mother sooner rather than later. You will not understand this yet, but I will tell it to you anyway. Your mother and I both navigated what you are feeling without guidance, as we had no parents or anyone of the like. That is a path that I do not recommend. The pitfalls are more dangerous than you can yet imagine."
  709.
  710. With a final flicker of power, Xelten's gaethzen phoenix extinguishes.
  711.
  712. You gaze at Xelten.
  713.
  714. Xelten holds a ruby-eyed gaethzen phoenix in his hand and closes his eyes in concentration.
  715.
  716. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  717.
  718. You ask in Ilithic, "Dangerous?"
  719.
  720. You ponder.
  721.
  722. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Extremely."
  723.
  724. You say in Ilithic, "It does not seem like it would be so."
  725.
  726. You act puzzled.
  727.
  728. Xelten smiles slightly.
  729.
  730. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  731.
  732. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Choose to trust me."
  733.
  734. You gaze at Xelten.
  735.
  736. You give a slight nod.
  737.
  738. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "So where is this gentleman of yours?"
  739.
  740. You ponder.
  741.
  742. You ask in Ilithic, "I'm not sure?"
  743.
  744. You say in Ilithic, "I made the journey to Ilithi myself."
  745.
  746. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  747.
  748. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  749.
  750. You say in Ilithic, "When I heard you were in town, I wanted to come visit."
  751.
  752. You smile at Xelten.
  753.
  754. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "And I am certainly glad that you did. Will you be heading back soon, then?"
  755.
  756. You say in Ilithic, "I think so."
  757.
  758. You nod.
  759.
  760. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  761.
  762. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  763.
  764. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Well, when you do decide to go, perhaps I can escort you. There have been quite a lot of attacks in Zoluren lately, and in any case, I know some shortcuts to reach Therengia."
  765.
  766. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  767.
  768. You say in Ilithic, "Oh... perhaps? I... I still have business I should do while I am in town and... and I should probably stop and see my mother."
  769.
  770. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  771.
  772. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am by no means rushing you to leave Ilithi. I will be remaining here for a while myself, anyway."
  773.
  774. You nod.
  775.
  776. You smile at Xelten.
  777.
  778. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Have you seen Cas yet? I know she missed you, too."
  779.
  780. You say in Ilithic, "I will let you know when I am ready to return to Therenborough, then."
  781.
  782. You smile.
  783.
  784. You nod to Xelten.
  785.
  786. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  787. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  788.
  789. You say in Ilithic, "We had a chance to speak briefly."
  790.
  791. You say in Ilithic, "She suggested I come find you."
  792.
  793. Xelten smiles.
  794.
  795. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "So what else have I missed?"
  796.
  797. You ponder.
  798.
  799. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  800.
  801. You say in Ilithic, "If you missed it, I did as well. Other than the Gorbesh. And my mother said something about crystalline frostweavers, but I did not see them."
  802.
  803. You say in Ilithic, "I was already out of town when that occurred."
  804.
  805. You ask in Ilithic, "There have been some people being rather mean to Mother and Ez, but... I think that's just people?"
  806.
  807. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  808.
  809. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What people, and why?"
  810.
  811. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  812.
  813. You say in Ilithic, "Something about the Tavern Troupe? They were seen hugging and welcoming necromancers at their gatherings, so Mother and Ez politely removed a few of their members from a concert they were planning to host here in Ilithi. I guess it ruffled some feathers."
  814.
  815. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  816.
  817. You shrug.
  818.
  819. Xelten smirks.
  820.
  821. You say in Ilithic, "But Prince Fayne came to the show. And so did the Tower Steward. So I think it still went well, despite the people who said they would boycott the performance."
  822.
  823. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  824.
  825. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Yes, I had heard His Highness was in attendance. I recently stayed in Elamiri for a short while after returning from the south."
  826.
  827. You smile at Xelten.
  828.
  829. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  830.
  831. You say in Ilithic, "He said Mother was one of his favorites in the show."
  832.
  833. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I would pay little mind to the Troupe. Their art is barely that."
  834.
  835. You nod.
  836.
  837. You say in Ilithic, "Mother and Ez have been abstaining from attending their functions, for now."
  838.
  839. Xelten says in Ilithic, "And yes, I am not surprised. There was a time that the three of us had an understanding. Like friendship, to the extent that he can extend such."
  840.
  841. You nod.
  842.
  843. You say in Ilithic, "He said he would gladly come to the city to watch another show, so long as Mother was among those on the stage."
  844.
  845. You ponder.
  846.
  847. Xelten smiles.
  848.
  849. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  850.
  851. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I would not mind hearing her sing again, myself."
  852.
  853. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  854.
  855. You smile at Xelten.
  856.
  857. You say in Ilithic, "She sang a song she wrote herself. About sapphires."
  858.
  859. You giggle.
  860.
  861. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  862.
  863. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Naturally."
  864.
  865. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "How about you? Do you sing?"
  866.
  867. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  868.
  869. You nod to Xelten.
  870.
  871. You smile.
  872.
  873. You happily say in Ilithic, "Ez said I might be able to sing in the next concert."
  874.
  875. You beam!
  876.
  877. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Then you can be assured I will be seated in the optimal position."
  878.
  879. You smile at Xelten.
  880.
  881. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  882.
  883. You say in Ilithic, "That would be nice."
  884.
  885. You say in Ilithic, "I will be sure to send you word, when the next show is scheduled... if I am on the roster."
  886.
  887. Xelten nods.
  888.
  889. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  890.
  891. Xelten says in Ilithic, "And do not forget to tell your sister, also. I am sure she would like to attend. I would personally like to see her perform, as well, but ah... convincing her to do that seems to be an uphill battle."
  892.
  893. You chuckle to yourself.
  894.
  895. You ask in Ilithic, "Maybe I could convince her to? Does she write songs?"
  896.
  897. You ask in Ilithic, "They usually prefer originally works. Unless they decide to do a talent show?"
  898.
  899. You ponder.
  900.
  901. You shrug.
  902.
  903. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Write, sing, dance... she does it all, and she surpassed me long ago. But getting her to show anyone is a challenge."
  904.
  905. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  906.
  907. You smile.
  908.
  909. You say in Ilithic, "I invited her to come see me. Maybe I can convince her."
  910.
  911. Xelten grins.
  912.
  913. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Good luck."
  914.
  915. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  916. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  917.
  918. You grin.
  919.
  920. It has been 434 years, 184 days since the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer.
  921. It is the 5th month of Uthmor the Giant in the year of the Silver Unicorn.
  922. It is currently summer and you believe it is nighttime.
  923.
  924. You nibble your lip thoughtfully.
  925.
  926. You ponder.
  927.
  928. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  929.
  930. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Is there another place on your mind?"
  931.
  932. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  933.
  934. You shake your head.
  935.
  936. You smile at Xelten.
  937.
  938. You say in Ilithic, "I was just thinking."
  939.
  940. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Do tell."
  941.
  942. You say in Ilithic, "Oh... There is going to be something interesting happening in Therenborough soon."
  943.
  944. You smile at Xelten.
  945.
  946. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What is that?"
  947.
  948. You say in Ilithic, "My guild... well, Mother and several others far more experienced than myself, are going to be conducting an experiment... unless the guild leaders halt them."
  949.
  950. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  951.
  952. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What sort of experiment?"
  953.
  954. You say in Ilithic, "They are going to attempt to open a sort of doorway to the Plane of Electricity."
  955.
  956. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  957.
  958. You say in Ilithic, "Up near the Ker'Leor."
  959.
  960. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Your mother?"
  961.
  962. You nod.
  963.
  964. You notice as a sleek squirrel scratches behind its ear.
  965.
  966. Xelten says in Ilithic, "That is... uncharacteristically risky for her."
  967.
  968. You say in Ilithic, "She is working to put the experiment together with Mazrian, Perune, and Saragos."
  969.
  970. You say in Ilithic, "They did another experiment a few months ago. They managed to create an anomaly they believe was a window into the Plane of Aether."
  971.
  972. Xelten folds his arms across his chest.
  973.
  974. You notice as a sleek squirrel wiggles its whiskers.
  975.
  976. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Well, I cannot say it is not fascinating, but leave it to warrior mages to be such hypocrites."
  977.
  978. You say in Ilithic, "It was mostly safe? They are working with one of the Grove Scholars."
  979.
  980. You gaze at Xelten.
  981.
  982. You ask in Ilithic, "Why are we hypocrites?"
  983.
  984. Xelten smirks.
  985.
  986. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "We can return to that subject. Tell me more of this experiment. How would your guild leaders be alarmed if the Grove is involved?"
  987.
  988. You say in Ilithic, "Because of the potential risk, I suppose."
  989.
  990. You ask in Ilithic, "Maybe they do not want to risk stepping on the toes of the Lord of the Void?"
  991.
  992. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Or causing local, if not global, bleeding together of the two planes. Yes, that would be a bit alarming."
  993.
  994. You fidget nervously.
  995.
  996. You say in Ilithic, "Yes, that was... part of the potential risk."
  997.
  998. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  999.
1000. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Mind you, despite how reckless it is, I of course would like to witness it from the front row."
  1001.
  1002. You grin at Xelten.
  1003.
1004. Xelten says in Ilithic, "That itself will be a bit risky... all the way to Ker'Leor...."
  1005.
1006. You say in Ilithic, "There is going to be a meeting in Crossing in the next few days, where Mother and the others are going to explain it all and provide locations and details for those who wish to participate or observe. If you would like to attend."
  1007.
1008. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Yes, I really must."
  1009.
1010. You say in Ilithic, "Maybe I will see you there, then."
  1011.
  1012. Xelten nods in agreement.
  1013.
1014. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Now then, I believe you wanted to know why warrior mages are hypocrites."
  1015.
  1016. You gaze at Xelten.
  1017.
  1018. You nod to Xelten.
  1019.
1020. Xelten says in Ilithic, "What they are seeking to do is vastly, catastrophically more dangerous than mixing mana frequencies."
  1021.
1022. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Yet there they are, sanctioning it."
  1023.
1024. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Even your mother, no less."
  1025.
1026. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  1027.
1028. You say in Ilithic, "But... it is not technically sorcery..."
  1029.
1030. You say in Ilithic, "And the Grove Scholars..."
  1031.
  1032. You ponder.
  1033.
1034. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "And what about being technically sorcery makes anything else wrong?"
  1035.
  1036. You fidget nervously.
  1037.
1038. Xelten asks in Ilithic, "The danger, is it not? Or are they afraid of something else?"
  1039.
1040. You say in Ilithic, "I think Mother is better versed in the argument about sorcery than I am."
  1041.
1042. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  1043.
1044. You notice as a sleek squirrel stretches up on its hind legs to look around.
  1045.
1046. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Those of us who can no longer bend the elements naturally must find our own ways. Alas, I am not at all attempting to turn you against your guild, let alone against your mother. It was merely an observation."
  1047.
  1048. You nod.
  1049.
1050. You say in Ilithic, "I just know it is a... a touchy subject... for a lot of people."
  1051.
1052. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Indeed."
  1053.
  1054. Xelten nods in agreement.
  1055.
1056. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Of course, life magic has its high points."
  1057.
1058. Xelten's eyes go distant as he quickly forms intricate patterns in the air.
  1059.
1060. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Here is one of my favorites."
  1061.
  1062. Xelten gestures.
  1063.
1064. A leaf-green wave of light ripples outward from Xelten. At first only a handful of iridescent blue botflies flutter into the area, but these few are quickly joined by teeming coalescing into a humanoid spawn that rises from the ground and readies itself for battle.
  1065.
1066. The light from Xelten's gaethzen phoenix allows you to see...
  1067.
  1068. [Hidden Cave]
1069. A sizable niche is carved into the earth, useful for either storage or protection from the harsh elements above. At the back of the cave, an ironwood shelf is positioned beside a sturdy steel chest, and above them hangs an aged iron sconce. You also see a plague spawn, a sleek squirrel that is sitting and a dimly lit hole.
  1070. Also here: Xelten.
  1071. Obvious exits: none.
  1072.
  1073.
  1074. You ponder.
  1075.
1076. You ask in Ilithic, "It will not harm my squirrel, will it?"
  1077.
1078. You notice a sleek squirrel tries to hide when it sees a plague spawn.
  1079.
1080. You pet your sleek squirrel.
  1081.
1082. The light from Xelten's gaethzen phoenix allows you to see...
  1083.
  1084. [Hidden Cave]
1085. A sizable niche is carved into the earth, useful for either storage or protection from the harsh elements above. At the back of the cave, an ironwood shelf is positioned beside a sturdy steel chest, and above them hangs an aged iron sconce. You also see a plague spawn, a sleek squirrel and a dimly lit hole.
  1086. Also here: Xelten.
  1087. Obvious exits: none.
  1088.
1089. A plague spawn pats itself down, ensuring its insectile legion is in place for battle.
  1090.
1091. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Ah, I did not mean to frighten your elemental. Do not worry, aethereal. This entity destroys only the undead."
  1092.
1093. The sleek squirrel sits down.
  1094.
1095. Xelten gestures at a plague spawn.
  1096.
1097. The iridescent blue botflies composing a plague spawn lose interest and scatter, vanishing quickly into nooks and crannies.
  1098.
1099. The light from Xelten's gaethzen phoenix allows you to see...
  1100.
  1101. [Hidden Cave]
1102. A sizable niche is carved into the earth, useful for either storage or protection from the harsh elements above. At the back of the cave, an ironwood shelf is positioned beside a sturdy steel chest, and above them hangs an aged iron sconce. You also see a sleek squirrel that is sitting and a dimly lit hole.
  1103. Also here: Xelten.
  1104. Obvious exits: none.
  1105.
  1106. You smile.
  1107.
1108. You say in Ilithic, "That is fascinating."
  1109.
  1110. You nod to Xelten.
  1111.
1112. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  1113.
  1114. Xelten nods in agreement.
  1115.
1116. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Magic is amazing."
  1117.
  1118. You nod in agreement.
  1119.
  1120. You smile.
  1121.
1122. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Ah, I still remember your first spell...."
  1123.
1124. You ask in Ilithic, "You do?"
  1125.
  1126. Xelten smiles.
  1127.
1128. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  1129.
1130. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Among my proudest moments."
  1131.
  1132. You smile at Xelten.
  1133.
1134. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Just simple wind magic, but you were very young."
  1135.
1136. You say in Ilithic, "Mother always said I was a natural."
  1137.
1138. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I suppose to call it a spell even is a bit much. But you had a talent for the elements from the start, indeed."
  1139.
1140. You say in Ilithic, "She told me she was unsure whether I would be a bard or a warrior magess."
  1141.
1142. You say in Ilithic, "Since I played that whistle the Consul gave me."
  1143.
  1144.
  1145. Xelten grins.
  1146.
1147. You say in Ilithic, "This one, actually."
  1148.
  1149. You giggle.
  1150.
1151. You say in Ilithic, "I still have it."
  1152.
  1153. Xelten nods.
  1154.
1155. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I believe following in the footsteps of your mother was always your destiny."
  1156.
1157. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Though where you diverge in the future remains to be seen, and I am most interested to learn."
  1158.
  1159. You smile at Xelten.
  1160.
1161. You say in Ilithic, "As am I."
  1162.
  1163. You nod.
  1164.
1165. You notice a sleek squirrel rub against Xelten for a moment.
  1166.
1167. Xelten gazes off into the distance.
  1168.
1169. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  1170.
1171. You ask Xelten in Ilithic, "Is... is everything alright?"
  1172.
1173. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  1174.
1175. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Indeed, it is. However, you must be getting bored of me by now, and I would not want to keep you from that very important conversation you will be having with your mother."
  1176.
  1177. Xelten smirks.
  1178.
1179. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  1180.
1181. You notice as a sleek squirrel twists around to clean its tail.
  1182.
1183. You slowly say in Ilithic, "Yes... yes, with my mother..."
  1184.
1185. Xelten says in Ilithic, "It is not a directive, but it is a suggestion that I hope you will consider."
  1186.
  1187. You nod.
  1188.
1189. You quickly say in Ilithic, "Oh, I will."
  1190.
  1191. You nod emphatically.
  1192.
  1193. Xelten raises an eyebrow.
  1194.
1195. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Very good."
  1196.
  1197. You smile at Xelten.
  1198.
1199. You say in Ilithic, "But I should not keep you, either."
  1200.
1201. You notice as a sleek squirrel looks up at you with bright eyes.
  1202.
  1203. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  1204.
1205. You say in Ilithic, "It was nice to see you."
  1206.
1207. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am afraid I am going to melt this gaethzen soon. I have charged it with thousands of streams by now."
  1208.
  1209. You nod.
  1210.
  1211. You chuckle.
  1212.
1213. Xelten says in Ilithic, "And yes. I am delighted to have seen you again, which is an event that must take place far more often now."
  1214.
1215. You nod at Xelten, in complete agreement with his views.
  1216.
1217. You say in Ilithic, "I would like that."
  1218.
1219. Xelten hugs you, and you wrap your arms around him with a warm smile.
  1220.
1221. You hug Xelten who wraps his arms around you with a warm smile. A faint scent of fresh water clings to his skin.
  1222.
1223. Xelten pats you on the back.
  1224.
1225. You ask in Ilithic, "I will see you again soon?"
  1226.
1227. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Indeed."
  1228.
1229. Xelten says in Ilithic, "But first, I think I will have to show you the way out of here."
  1230.
1231. You blush slightly, the tips of your ears flushing with warmth.
  1232.
  1233. You nod.
  1234.
1235. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Allow me a moment to first check that the exit is not watched. I would rather keep this as much a secret as I can."
  1236.
1237. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I trust you are not afraid of the dark."
  1238.
  1239. You smile at Xelten.
  1240.
  1241. You shake your head.
  1242.
1243. You say in Ilithic, "I am not."
  1244.
1245. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Then I will return in a moment."
  1246.
1247. Xelten's eyes go distant as he quickly forms intricate patterns in the air.
  1248.
1249. Xelten puts his phoenix in his hooded longcoat.
  1250.
  1251. Xelten gestures.
  1252.
1253. In the blink of an eye, Xelten disappears into his surroundings.
1254. With a waver like a mirage, Xelten fades into view.
  1255.
1256. From the darkness you hear a voice say in Ilithic, "The coast is clear, as they say."
  1257.
1258. Xelten clasps your hand tenderly.
  1259.
1260. Xelten's group went through a dimly lit hole.
  1261. [Dragon's Spine, Rivyn's Rise]
  1263. Also here: Xelten.
  1264. Obvious paths: none.
  1265.
  1266. Room Number: 6461
  1267.
  1268. (Travel)
  1269.
  1270. You follow Xelten east.
  1271. [Shard, West Bridge]
1272. Eerie chanting echoes over the bridge, filling the air with an ominous reminder that the World Dragon is still an influential power. Wyvern Mountain rises up blotting out the western sky.
  1273. Also here: Xelten.
  1274. Obvious paths: west.
  1275.
  1276.
1277. The steady rain falls down on the surface of your swan whistle.
  1278.
1279. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Ah, careful with that."
  1280.
1281. You notice that moisture has accumulated on your whistle.
1282. You put your whistle in your backpack.
  1283.
  1284. You nod.
  1285.
  1286. You sigh.
  1287.
1288. Xelten says in Ilithic, "A gift from the Consul is a rare thing."
  1289.
  1290. Xelten smiles.
  1291.
1292. You say in Ilithic, "I don't have a cloth to clean it..."
  1293.
  1294. You fret.
  1295.
1296. Xelten says in Ilithic, "That, we must remedy."
  1297.
1298. Xelten casually observes the area.
  1299.
1300. Xelten's group climbed up the city wall.
  1301. [Shard, West Battlements]
1302. High above the West Gate, embrasures pierce the stone battlements between the merlons that give cover to the defenders of the walls. The perch commands the main entrance to the city with a field of fire that covers the West Bridge.
  1303. Also here: Xelten.
  1304. Obvious paths: north.
  1305.
  1306. (Travel)
  1307.
  1308. Xelten's group entered a brown-trimmed blue shop.
1309. [Malik the True Bard, Instruments and Picks]
1310. Less a shop and more an extension of Malik's living room, several tasteful couches and lounges have been arranged in aesthetically pleasing positions about the room, the better to allow the true musicians who visit this shop to test the owner's handiwork. A fine array of instruments and their complimenting tools lay behind a display and hang from the walls, looking more than just pretty. You also see a polished oaken credenza with a catalog on it, a bucket of viscous gloop and the True Bard Malik.
  1311. Also here: Xelten.
  1312. Obvious exits: out.
  1313.
1314. You get a rosewood swan whistle from inside your backpack.
  1315.
1316. Malik nods at Xelten and says something to him.
  1317.
1318. Malik removes a chamois cloth from a drawer on his table and blows gently on it before placing it in Xelten's hands.
  1319.
1320. You ask in Ilithic, "Do you think it is already damaged?"
  1321.
  1322. You fret.
  1323.
1324. Xelten offers you a chamois cloth. Enter ACCEPT to accept the offer or DECLINE to decline it. The offer will expire in 30 seconds.
  1325.
1326. Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am sure it will be fine."
  1327.
1328. You accept Xelten's offer and are now holding a chamois cloth.
  1329.
1330. A rosewood swan whistle is not in need of cleaning.
  1331.
  1332. You see nothing unusual.
  1333.
1334. The swan whistle feels pretty light.
1335. You are certain that the swan whistle is worth exactly 451 Dokoras.
  1336.
1337. You carefully examine a rosewood swan whistle, but see nothing special.
  1338.
1339. You say in Ilithic, "I was worried when I saw it had gotten wet."
  1340.
  1341. You smile at Xelten.
  1342.
1343. You say to Xelten in Ilithic, "Thank you for the cloth."
  1344.
  1345. Xelten nods.
  1346.
1347. Xelten says in Ilithic, "You are welcome."
  1348.
1349. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Now then put that away safely, and I will get you back to the Rose."
  1350.
1351. Asilyia uses the cloth to clean off her already clean whistle.)
  1352.
  1353. You nod.
  1354.
1355. You notice that moisture has accumulated on your whistle.
1356. You put your whistle in your backpack.
  1357.
1358. You put your cloth in your backpack.
  1359.
  1360. Xelten nods.
  1361.
  1362. You follow Xelten out.
  1363. [Shard, Sapphire Avenue]
1364. Shadows fall like curtains, blurring the features of the homes that line the darkly cobbled street. In the distance, the Great Tower of Shard knifes the sky in a glow of silver light that shines through the night. To the southwest the Tower of Honor echoes that glow, a pale pearl shadow of the city's heart. You also see a brown-trimmed blue shop.
  1365. Also here: Xelten.
  1366. Obvious paths: northeast, southwest.
  1367.
  1368. (Travel)
  1369.
1370. Xelten's group entered an inn.
  1371. [Milene's Rose, Front Desk]
1372. Shadows drift in lazy patterns over the gleaming dark wood that compose the floor and walls, digging into the carvings of roses that gracefully climb in vines over the satiny planks. A black desk serviced by a young man curves out of the east wall. Stairs lead up, a pattern of black roses woven into the blue carpeting that covers them. You also see a short flight of steps.
  1373. Also here: Xelten.
  1374. Obvious exits: west, out.
  1375.
1376. Xelten says in Ilithic, "There you are."
  1377.
  1378. You smile.
1379. You get a rosewood swan whistle from inside your backpack.
  1380.
1381. You get a chamois cloth from inside your backpack.
  1382.
  1383. Xelten chuckles to himself.
  1384.
1385. Xelten says in Ilithic, "Fret not, it will be fine."
  1386.
  1387. You nod.
  1388.
1389. You say in Ilithic, "I hope so."
  1390.
1391. Xelten says in Ilithic, "In the meantime, behave yourself."
  1392.
  1393. You smile at Xelten.
  1394.
1395. You say in Ilithic, "Of course."
  1396.
1397. You say in Ilithic, "Always."
  1398.
1399. Xelten hugs you, and you wrap your arms around him with a warm smile.
  1400.
1401. You hug Xelten who wraps his arms around you with a warm smile. A faint scent of fresh water clings to his skin.
  1402.
1403. Xelten stops you from following him.
  1404.
  1405. Xelten waves.
  1406.
  1407. You wave to Xelten.
  1408.
  1409. You smile.
  1410.
  1411. Xelten goes out.
  1412.
1413. You rub a rosewood swan whistle with a chamois cloth.
  1414.
1415. You stare at your swan whistle in confusion, then rub at it a little with your cloth in an attempt to dry it. Your cloth soaks up the water easily, but remains noticably damp afterwards.
  1416.
1417. You put your whistle in your backpack.
  1418.
1419. The chamois cloth is very damp.
  1420.
1421. You wring out a wet chamois cloth, water dribbling down your hands to splash at your feet.
  1422.
1423. The chamois cloth is nearly dry.
  1424.
1425. You wring out a damp chamois cloth, squeezing out the last bit of water.
  1426.
1427. The chamois cloth is as dry as a bone!
  1428.
1429. You put your cloth in your backpack.
