  1. Hololive presents: Hoshimachi Suisei's Music Space!
  2. Good evening everyone!
  3.
  4. Appearing like a comet in the night,
  5. a star in the making,
  6. I'm the idol VTuber, Hoshimachi Suisei!
  7.
  8. This program features
  9. Hololive's virtual idol, Hoshimachi Suisei:
  10. a songstress-to-be whose voice
  11. resounds through the stars
  12. putting wishes and dreams into song.
  13.
  14. Just starting and already,
  15. I'm close to messing up my lines!
  16.
  17. Anyway, it's my new radio program
  18. on Bunka Housou, Chou A&G+!
  19.
  20. *cheering*
  21.
  22. The script here says "woohoo"
  23. but I have no idea whether it means
  24. I have to say it or
  25. someone plays a sound effect--
  26.
  27. And the staff is just nodding "uh huh",
  28. so I guess I was supposed to say it!
  29.
  30. Okay!
  31.
  32. Up 'til now, I've had a lot of
  33. solo talk streams on Youtube before,
  34. but this is the first time
  35. I'm doing an actual radio program.
  36. I'm so nervous!
  37. I was almost fumbled my lines!
  38. I thought I could pull it off because
  39. I could handle my streams easily
  40. but now that I'm here...
  41.
  42. So nervous...
  43.
  44. Okay, moving on!
  45.
  46. When I was first invited to do a radio program,
  47. I asked "Me? Really? Are you sure?"
  48. It's such an honor!
  49. This is Bunka Housou!
  50. There's 70 years of history right there!
  51. And I've been an avid listener of Chou A&G+!
  52.
  53. Moving on.
  54. First off, you must all be thinking,
  55. "Who the heck are you?!"
  56. So I'd like to announce-- Announce?!
  57. I'd like to introduce myself!
  58.
  59. I'm just going to
  60. read right off the script:
  61. Says right here,
  62. "Since when has Hoshimachi Suisei been active?"
  63. Well, so, let's get to the introducing.
  64. In terms of actual activity,
  65. since 2018 -- two years ago -- on March 22.
  66. It's April 5 today, so pretty close.
  67. It being March 22nd means that
  68. I've been active for two whole years.
  69. Early on, I introduced myself
  70. as a songstress-to-be,
  71. so I sang some songs and stuff,
  72. also played some games,
  73. and then some free talk like this too.
  74. I've done a variety of things!
  75. Things I like...
  76. Errr... Idol anime, I suppose.
  77. iDOLM@STER... That's a must.
  78. Have you all seen THE iDOLM@STER?
  79. Watch it.
  80. I became an idol because
  81. I wanted to become like the girls in iDOLM@STER.
  82. That's just how much I love it.
  83. Others, hmm...
  84. What else, PriPara? Do you guys know that?
  85. This one isn't exactly idols, but (Kiratto) PriChan.
  86. Also, LoveLive!
  87. And also, Ensemble Stars!
  88. I love that stuff, idol anime.
  89. My personality...
  90. As you can tell, listening up 'til now,
  91. I'm uhh *laughs* an idol with a bit of a potty mouth.
  92. Everyone tells me to fix that but well,
  93. this is who I am!
  94. I just-- I've been holding myself back today,
  95. but when I play games and stuff...
  96. Let's say, I get shot by someone and it's game over,
  97. I often scream, "Huh?! You stupid--! Dammit!"
  98. That's not good!
  99. I see the staff is also laughing!
  100. So if you want a one-sentence summary of Hoshimachi Suisei--
  101. at least that's what the script says--
  102. In short!
  103. An idol who is nothing like an idol.
  104. I'll be talking about all sorts of stuff after this!
  105. Okay, let's begin!
  106. Hololive Presents: Hoshimachi Suisei's Music Space!
  107.
  108. What a cool jingle...
  109. Hi again! This is Hoshimachi Suisei!
  110. This being the first broadcast
  111. I'd like to continue my introduction.
  112. And for that, I have something to help!
  113. Hoshimachi Suisei: Ask 10!
  114.
  115. Eh? Wait, what was that just now...?
  116. Okay! I'll ask myself questions, then answer them
  117. like some kind of soliloquy.
  118. First! How does everyone call me?
  119. Everyone calls me "Sui-chan"!
  120. Even I sometime s refer to myself in the third person:
  121. "Sui-chan did this, Sui-chan did that"
  122. I often say it, and everyone else followed suit.
  123. Actually, I have no other nickname!
  124. Like using anything else is heresy!
  125. I'd love to know of any other nice nicknames.
  126.
  127. Second! Any artists and songs you like?
  128. So for artists...
  129. I've been saying this for a while now
  130. but I like Shiina Ringo and Utada Hikaru.
  131. A long time ago, my mom would play
  132. Utada Hikaru CDs in the car all the time.
  133. I listened to /Automatic/ a ton.
  134. It's Au To Ma Tic!
  135. It's so nostalgic, I remember
  136. the smell of the car just by hearing the song.
  137. As for Shiina Ringo...
  138. It was when I grew up and started watching Youtube
  139. I was like, "Wow her songs are really good!"
  140. Her, I discovered on my own.
  141. The duet song with Shiina Ringo and Utada Hikaru is so good
  142. please listen to it.
  143. Also...
  144. Well!
  145. Those who listened to
  146. my earlier introduction would know
  147. but I really like anime!
  148. I binge on songs from
  149. iM@S and EnSta!
  150. and buy a ton of CDs
  151.
  152. Okay third!
  153. "What are some songs you've sung before?"
  154. So this...
  155. Songs from iM@S...
  156. I've just sung a ton of anime songs.
  157. Bluebird from Naruto -- that's Naruto right?
  158. Also songs from Macross--
  159. I haven't published song covers exactly
  160. but I often cover them in my singing streams.
  161. They're basically karaoke streams
  162. where I sing a bunch.
  163. I often sing Macross songs there.
  164. As for the most popular song cover
  165. there's this movie, "Promare".
  166. superfly sang a song for it, titled "Kakusei"
  167. and I covered that.
  168. This one's already passed a million views in my song covers.
  169. Please listen to it...
  170. A&G fans -- all you otaku -- go listen to it!
  171. Gotta self-promote!
  172.
  173. Next, fourth:
  174. "What songs do you want to cover?"
  175. Mmm, I still haven't posted a Shiina Ringo cover.
  176. I've sung her stuff in karaoke streams but...
  177. Well.
  178. I just haven't gotten to posting a proper video.
  179.
  180. Okay, fifth!
  181. "What is an 'idol' to you?"
  182. Now we're getting deep!
  183. The definition of an idol!
  184. I've wanted to talk about this on my streams
  185. but never found the chance.
  186. I don't think there's
  187. an actual, rigid definition
  188. of what makes an idol, an "idol".
  189. So in my beloved Ensemble Stars!
  190. there is this character, Tenshouin Eichi.
  191. The protagonist-like person asks him
  192. "Just what is an idol?"
  193. And he replies grandiosely
  194. on the same sense of what the cosmos is
  195. or how the earth came to be
  196. and I was like, "Yeah same!"
  197. And that got me thinking:
  198. What defines an idol isn't that clear-cut.
  199. I mean, heck
  200. if there is even one fan who considers someone an idol
  201. then aren't they already an idol?
  202. There's AKB, probably the penultimate idol group:
  203. the nation's idol.
  204. But then in school, you've got people,
  205. they get referred to as "the idol of class 3-whatever".
  206. That's an idol too!
  207. I don't think singing and dancing makes an idol.
  208. Doesn't being loved by someone make you an idol?
  209. At least, that's what I think.
  210. So anyway.
  211. People tell me I'm not a very idol-like idol--
  212. 'cause I swear a bunch and all--
  213. they tell me that, but there is a huge breadth of idols!
  214. Really.
  215. There are infinite possibilities.
  216. There are as many definitions of an idol
  217. as there are kinds of people.
  218. So Sui-chan is also an idol!
  219. Okay!
  220.
  221. So sixth question:
  222. "What is Hoshimachi Suisei's dream?"
  223. So when...
  224. When I first began posting to Youtube--
  225. They say your first upload to Youtube
  226. is your VTuber debut.
  227. So if you mean my dream from that time
  228. then my dream...
  229. Well, I said that it would be (performing at) Budokan!
  230. I have this image that an idol's dream should be Budokan.
  231. Maybe this radio program on Bunka Housou
  232. can be my first step to Budokan?
  233. That sounds good!
  234.
  235. Seventh:
  236. "Your thoughts on your 3D live in March?"
  237. Yes, early March -- March 1!
  238. I performed a 3D live, to celebrate my 3D model.
  239. Before anything, those of you listening
  240. might be wondering, "3D? Huh?"
  241. So let me explain a little.
  242. Look at me!
  243. Some of you are probably thinking
  244. "Move your dang arms already!"
  245. "Why can you only move side to side?!"
  246. See, us VTubers are pretty restricted
  247. in our range of motion, usually.
  248. It's like a limiter, so to speak.
  249. But there are times when that limit is broken.
  250. And we refer to those moments as "3D".
  251. When we become 3D, we can move our arms, legs
  252. and even move back and forth.
  253. So we can just move all over.
  254. The camera is able to recognize me
  255. in the three dimensions.
  256. With the camera we're using now,
  257. I can't move as much.
  258. So I was finally able to become 3D
  259. and we were showcasing that.
  260. Generally when Hololive members showcase
  261. their 3D, they play things like uhh...
  262. Twister? Did someone do that?
  263. They'd do stuff like that
  264. and bring in guests and
  265. hit each other on the butt with foam bats...
  266. Wow, Hololive is crazy!
  267. Anyway, they'd do stuff like that.
  268. In my case, I love to sing.
  269. So I did a full showcase
  270. of singing and dancing
  271. in the format of a live concert.
  272. So my thoughts on that...
  273. Ahh yes...
  274. The one thing that I'd have to say:
  275. It was way too frantic!
  276. There was so much stuff to do.
  277. The worst was that this song I was gonna sing
  278. I suddenly couldn't do it anymore
  279. because of reasons.
  280. I was practicing the dance to go with that song
  281. but it all went up in smoke.
  282. Plus, I only found out about it
  283. five days before the performance.
  284. Like oh my god only 5 days left...!
  285. And I had to learn a new dance.
  286. So I only had 5 days left to pick a new song...
  287. And learn the song, and learn the dance.
  288.
  289. So the eighth question:
  290. "Any problems you had while writing lyrics?"
  291. So I-- My third original song,
  292. NEXT COLOR PLANET -- it played a bit in the opening.
  293. It just released recently.
  294. I wrote the lyrics to that.
  295. The difficulties with the 3D live
  296. and writing lyrics are pretty interconnected.
  297. As for why--
  298. The deadline for the lyrics was exactly
  299. on the day of the live, March 1.
  300. Like, I have this performance!
  301. But I have to write the lyrics!
  302. It was just so frantic!
  303. That was the worst part of it all.
  304. It was also my first time writing lyrics.
  305. I mean I'd always wanted to write lyrics
  306. and I had some ideas floating around already
  307. but well... it was harder than I thought!
  308. Like, maintaining coherence...
  309. Good diction alone doesn't make for good lyrics.
  310. But just writing poetically doesn't work either.
  311. It's so hard, every step of it!
  312. Writing verses, making it rhythmic;
  313. choosing words with the right cadence was tough.
  314. What I was most conscious about
  315. when writing the lyrics
  316. was keeping a rhyme.
  317. So this song...
  318. The first verse has a line "pocket ni tsumekonde".
  319. But in the second verse, it's "comet ga nagaretara".
  320. I made pocket and comet rhyme!!
  321. This is some big brain genius stuff!
  322. I'm really proud of that.
  323. Also ending lines with the
  324. same vowel sounds in the chorus...
  325. I was conscious of that.
  326. Bascially, I worked really hard on it!
  327. Oh, also I'm terrible at English
  328. but because I wanted to cram English words in
  329. I couldn't figure out what words
  330. all the way until the recording.
  331. I just put parentheses saying "(cute english phrase)".
  332. All the way until the recording!
  333. And then on the day of, me and the composers
  334. figured something out on the spot.
  335.
  336. Okay, question nine!
  337. "Any VTubers you're close with?"
  338. So ones I'm close with...
  339. Within Hololive...
  340. I mean, we're all good friends so it's hard
  341. to single someone out, but...
  342. Let's see.
  343. Ones I hang out with often are
  344. 1st gen Natsuiro Matsuri;
  345. 1st gen Akai Haato;
  346. also 1st gen Shirakami Fubuki;
  347. and 3rd gen Shiranui Flare;
  348. 4th gen Amane Kanata.
  349. Outside of Hololive, from Nijisanji--
  350. Inui Toko -- we're good friends.
  351. We can just turn off our brains
  352. and do stupid things.
  353. If you have the time, please watch them!
  354.
  355. Tenth! What do I want to do in this program?
  356. Well!
  357. Going to Budokan! Thanks!
  358. Okay, that was a lot of questions answered!
  359. Have you learned a bit more about me now?
