Crucible Family

Family History
	The Crucible family's history begins three hundred years ago in Thurgrim Valley with the slaying of the black dragon Gothradon by the man named Sieghard Crucible, AKA The Pale Knight, grand patriarch of the Crucible family. In doing so, he liberated the mines Gothradon had taken residence in, allowing his family and workers to move in and begin mining once more. The rich natural resources within the mine were like a treasure trove to the black dragon, as it had no need to pillage when all the gold, silver, platinum and gems were right there in the walls.
	The Crucible family's specialty is not only mining, but smelting and metal craftsmanship. Becoming an apprentice under the Crucible family is a sought-after position by many young craftsman in and out of the valley, and is practically a certificate in quality assurance. The valley has its share of farmers and loggers, as well as miners and craftsmen.
	The Crucible family does not take much stock in blood purity, as it has commonly married into and from the peasants and common folk in the valley. In fact, the recent marriage of the current patriarch, Count Thurmill Crucible, with the Dame Hedora Lorenz, was only the third instance of such a thing in the family's history.
	The family has managed to remain in good graces with other nobles and most races, save for dwarves- before the dragon had taken over the mine, it was held by the now-lost Axchin family. Since the slaying of the dragon, several related dwarven families had stepped forward to claim ownership of the mine, but have been dismissed by legal precedent or trial by combat.

Thurmill Crucible
	The current patriarch of the Crucible family, aged 89. His first marriage and children were born while he was middle-aged, and his wife, Rosen Flume, unfortunately passed away after sharing eleven years and three children together. He was married again to Hedora Lorenz and had a child at age 79. He was known to be a warrior of some renown for quite some time, going into battle up until his mid-70s and wearing at least full chain mail. It is said that his longevity, strength, and vitality is granted to him by a strange deformity on his left ring finger, which rumor says is actually a magic ring embedded under his skin. It is known, however, that a metal plate is embedded over his heart, in order to help protect himself from assassins.
	He has deteriorated somewhat in his age, but still remains strong enough to dual-wield a longsword while wearing breastplate. He is bald, but has a long white ponytail and a well-trimmed beard, and towers over all others at 7'.  He does not walk while armed, but keeps his weapons and armor in his bedroom, and often practices and teaches with them with his youngest son, Krim.
	His relationship with Shawl is rather distant. He regularly sends money to her via messenger, though it is mostly consolation for his inability to connect with her. Starting with the birth of his first daughter, followed by her scale growth, infertility, and leaving the valley to learn magic, he would become more and more disconnected with her throughout her life. Even while she occasionally visited the family for some holidays, he would rarely talk to her and would even regard her as alien and unfamiliar.
	In regards to Creed, the eldest Crucible child is his clear favorite. Having taught Creed in the art of combat while he was a child, Thurmill regularly involved himself in Creed's life and would start making large donations to the church once his son became a clergyman. From, his youngest son born of Rosen Flume, is almost the opposite- he would rarely speak to him, had him sit farthest from the head of the table during meals, and allowed the purchase and delivery of magical tomes to further From's magical learning with little thought. He gets along well with Lore Lorenz, Hedora's son from her first marriage, teaching him in combat, business, and governing like he had with Creed while he was a child, and seems to be intent on doing the same with Krim.
	His marriage to Hedora is strong, and his mind is sharp enough to allow himself to continue running the valley and mine by himself, though he requires reports and things from employees as he rarely leaves the castle.

Rosen Flume
The late matriarch of the Crucible family, who had married Thurmill at age 25 and died at 36, shortly after the birth of From Crucible. She had lived in the Durhin forest nearby Thurgrim Valley with her family, all of whom had died in a forest fire caused by the witch Theroma. Theroma was slain by Thurmill, who had taken Rosen to be his wife. In regards to Shawl's draconic ancestry, it is possible that it came from Rosen's family, whose ancestry had went unrecorded.

Creed Crucible
	The firstborn of the Crucible family, Creed was drawn towards faith from a young age, growing into a strong and erudite man who finds beauty in the world around him. Now in his late 30s, he is a member of the local clergy, until it is time for him to take his father's seat.
	He is taller than Shawl, standing at 6'7, and has a shaved head with a black, trimmed beard. His personality can be jovial or serious. He commonly can be seen out of the church, helping the commoners and preventing mischief and wrongdoing in the town. He often spends the evenings in the taverns, having himself a good drink and keeping bar fights from breaking out.
	Creed rarely wears armor or carries a weapon, preferring to walk around in robes and using his bare hands to solve physical disputes. Upon his code of honor he does not start fights, and engages only to end the fight. He will arm and armor himself only in defense of the town or church.
	Being only a year older than Shawl, he was close with her as they grew together, and would regularly play and explore with his younger sister. During the ordeal of her scale growth, he would stay by her side and help keep her cool, give her medicine, and read to her. After the death of Rosen Flume, they started to grow apart. He was supportive of her choice to learn magic, though her father was nonchalant about it. He would attempt to help raise From, but the age gap was a hindrance and the youngest Crucible child was distant to all but his wet nurse.	As From grew and began learning magic, Creed approved little of it, but supervised him to some degree and made sure that his younger brother's knowledge would be used properly.
	His relationship with Hedora Lorenz is strange, as she is only a year younger than him and married his father at an advanced age while she was in her late 20s. While his sure that his father and step-mother's relationship and love are genuine, he always finds something strange about seeing the two of them together. Lore Lorenz and Krim Crucible are more like his nephews than his brothers, having trained them in reading and writing himself, and loving them genuinely.

Shawl Crucible
	The second child and only daughter of the Crucible family, Shawl's draconic lineage manifested itself at age 6 in the form of dragon scales painfully growing along the outsides of her her arms, ribs, and legs. At age 10, she began demonstrating magical abilities, and a medical exam at age 12 revealed that she would be infertile. Depressed in the wake of her mother's death, and feeling ostracized by her family and the court in regards to her magic abilities and mutations, Shawl moved away to learn magic from the sorceress Melevar of the Great Swamp.
	Her relationship with her family is distant, but appreciative. She got along well with Creed, loved her mother deeply, but always felt something of an estranged relationship with her father. Despite visiting the family occasionally during her adolescence and adulthood, she never felt much connection to her younger brother From, always associating him with the death of her mother, though she is somewhat impressed by his growing magical ability.
	She was not present for the marriage of her father and Hedora Lorenz, and did not meet her or Lore Lorenz until the birth of Krim Crucible. She has never felt completely comfortable about the notion of their marriage, or just being around Hedora. She has minor regard for Lore, respecting his achievements in hunting and dueling, and regularly has sweets or a gift for Krim whens he visits the family.

From Crucible
	The last child of Rosen Flume, who died four months after his birth. From was primarily raised by his nurse Magrat Thelan, who would teach him reading and writing in lieu of his father or older brother. From rarely connected with his actual family, instead latching onto family surrogates, like Magrat instead of his dead mother, Blacker the lead blacksmith in place of his father, and captain of the guard Brass Fine in place of his older brother.
	From barely knew his sister before she left home to study magic, as he was only 3 when she left. Perhaps his choice to study magic was in response to this, wanting to impress Shawl with his own skills while not having to leave the family estate, though he would learn little in terms of running the family business or governing. It functions as one of his only reasons for his father to speak with him, as he regularly has to request money to purchase new books or have them delivered. He occasionally ventures from the valley to acquire knowledge, though he brings a number of attendants with, rarely walks, and spends large sums over the course of his journeys. He has some experience in fighting with weapons, as he is a Crucible man, though he has rudimentary training as opposed to his magic ability.
	His knowledge of magic is on the cusp of a great development, as he taken on a pact with a mysterious entity currently beyond his understanding, but wishes to do so. His fear or trepidation are outweighed by his curiosity and search for greatness.
	His physical strength is equal to or greater than his magical ability, to some degree. While he keeps it in mind to train physically when not studying, he does eat quite a bit. His musculature is hidden under his fat, and he uses it to his advantage sometimes- most don't expect his feats of physical strength after seeing his round babyface or large belly. his hair is brown and cropped short, and he seems to be incapable of growing a beard. He often wears comfortable robes, or trousers and a long shirt.
	When driven to battle, he usually wears a chain shirt, leather gloves, thick trousers and leather boots. He commonly makes use of the Elritch Blast cantrip, using it from a distance while closing in to attack with his N'Kulba greatsword, a hybrid staff and sword. When he has time to prepare, he will cast Armor of Agathys and use the Armor of Shadows invocation to strengthen himself. His training has given him versatility in combat, and he may use the variety of his various cantrips to surprise and confuse his opponents.
