  1. -------Spirit of Winter make me hate myself for writing it so I won't be updating any time soon.-------------------------------------Maybe I'll write it when winter comes around hur hur hur----------------------------------
  2.
  3.
  4. >All is quite.
  5. >Save for the sweat rolling down your forehead.
  6. >It’s hot in here. Really hot.
  7. >And even though you’re not anywhere near the fire Twilight had you start, you’re still sweating. What’s worse is that you can’t do anything about it with Twi holding you in a death grip.
  8. >She’s been complaining how cold it is all fall and has been keeping things extra warm in the library. Frankly you weren’t bothering by the heat all summer and for most of autumn, all you needed to do was stay in the heat constantly to bring your body temperature up.
  9. >It’s only now that it’s become unbearable.
  10. >Just two days until winter. Then you’ll have to travel across Equestria for a few weeks to meet with the nobles. Once that’s done you should be able to come back to Ponyville.
  11. >Especially with how hot Twi is; mare is absolutely on fire.
  12. >You can do this… Just two days until winter and you can enjoy the cold weather. Part of you still doesn’t want to make things too cold… But Jesus fuck it’s hot!
  13.
  14. >It take a while before Twilight loosens her grip on you and gives you a little bit of room to roll out of bed.
  15. >You just need a little air. Then it’s back to bed.
  16. >You glide down the stairs and to the door where you slip out noiselessly.
  17. >Oh god this is nice. It’s so nice and cold out.
  18. >Feel s like Suv’s little sister must have made is colder than usual out.
  19. >Probably not, but it’s still nice out.
  20. >Just a few minutes to let you cool off and then it’s back into the furnace.
  21. >A slight breeze picks up the rustles the leaves.
  22. >Oh god it’s so nice out.
  23. >Maybe you should stay out here for a little bit longer, it’s probably not for you, if you just stay in there and roast alive.
  24. >Everything is so peaceful out. It’s absolutely silent save for the sound of the wind through the trees, it’s almost enough to make yo-
  25. >What was that?
  26. >I swear you saw something go into the alleyway. Something low to the ground, something long and slim.
  27. >….
  28. >Shit.
  29. >With your feet completely bare you quietly walk toward the alley where you saw the thing slither into.
  30. >It’s dark as hell out and without the moon you can’t see anything at all. You decide to circle around to the other side of the shops and see if there’s anything skulking around.
  31. >You squint slightly.
  32. >It’s pretty dark but you still don-
  33. >Shit.
  34. >Something come trotting out of another alleyway and down the street rounding the corner. It was fairly slender and held its head low… And it was big.
  35. >Timber wold. This is not good, not good at all.
  36. >They don’t normally come very far out of the Everfree, let alone into town. This is bad, something’s wrong with it.
  37. >You start to sprint after it. The worst thing it could do to you is take a chunk of flesh out of your shoulder, but it could kill sompony.
  38. >Shit shitty.
  39. >Your eyes dart back and forth, it couldn’t have gone very far. It shouldn’t be hard to spot either, considering its size.
  40. >You wait a few seconds.
  41. >There! You see the wolf slink out of another alley way and down the street.
  42. >You sprint after it again with a fistful of ice.
  43. >It stops to look back at you before running in the opposite direction
  44. Where you going mother fu-
  45. >Your face hits the ground along with the rest of you.
  46. >Something has it teeth in your neck. Something that feels like it’s teeth are made of burning iron.
  47. FUCK!!
  48. >This is not good. What the fuck is going on!?
  49. >You swing your arm back in hopes that you can get a grip on whatever is on top of you.
  50. >It doesn’t work.
  51. >You feel your blood begin to run cold.
  52. >In a few seconds you feel like you’ve frozen solid.
  53. >Got to… Got to do something…
  54. >Everything starts to spin before you feel whatever is on you let go of your neck and step on your head.
  55. You… fucker…
  56. >You bring your eyes up to see it in front of you. It looks like another timberwolf.
  57. >You swear you could see the moonlight shine through it before your pass out.
  58.
  59.
  60. >The sun had already risen when you finally woke up.
  61. >The memory of what happened in the night. You need to get to Applejack and tell her that some Timberwolves were wandering around town in the night. The mayor should probably know too.
  62. >You had made it back to the house in no time at all. Twi was still asleep which was good. What wasn’t good was how she woke up as soon as you crawled into bed.
  63. >She yelped and shot out of bed.
  64. >You didn’t know it but you were as cold as ice. Maybe colder.
  65. >She asked why you were so cold and you told her that you stepped out for some air and fell asleep outside.
  66. >She doesn’t really need to know what really happened. It’d give her a heart attack.
  67. >Then you just spent most of the morning cuddling in bed.
  68. >The feeling of roasting to death had completely gone away, and frankly you didn’t want to leave the house if that meant getting cold.
  69. >It was a weird felling. You always used to like the cold, now you’re here trying to convince Twi to just stay in today.
  70. >”We have errands to run, I want you to come with me.”
  71. >”…”
  72. ...
  73. >”Pleeease just come with me.”
  74. >You respond by pulling the sheets over your head.
  75. >To which Twilight responds to by levitating you out of bed and onto the floor.
  76. Fine, fine just let me get dressed.
  77. >The rest of the day was spent around town with Twilight going from shop to shop, to prepare for the winter. Some ingredients for potions go out of season during the winter along with other things that she gets for the winter.
  78. >You weren’t really paying attention.
  79. >Now you’re back home waiting for the night before winter to be over.
  80. Sssssoooooo….
  81. >”Hm?”
  82. What’s going to happen tomorrow?
  83. >Twilight does a spit take before looking back at you.
  84. >"You don't know!?"
  85. Do you?
  86. >"No!"
  87. >Twilights mane starts to get frizzy as set jumps off of the couch and heads down to the main Library.
  88. >You really don't know what your suppose to do, Luna said something about raising the moonstone for the first time in Ponyville for a thousand years and there's suppose to be a festival, but that's about it.
  89. >"This is bad, this is very bad!"
  90. >"Twilight what's-"
  91. >"Not now!"
  92. >Twi's yelling must have woken Spike up, it's a wonder that he's not used to her freaking out by now, you really can't think of a day where she hasn't been doing work or studying for some personal project.
  93. >"Ooooh! We must have a book on ancient rituals somewhere!"
  94. >She stars to go through several books with her mane getting frizzier and frizzier by the second.
  95. >"Wait!"
  96. >She turns around and jump on you.
  97. >"Do you remember what happened at the Summer Sun Celebration?!"
  98. >...
  99. ...
  100. >"S-sorry."
  101. It's alright...
  102. >"I mean it's just... Do you remember what what Summer did?"
  103. Uh... She just stood behind Celestia and shot into the air before.... Things happened...
  104. >"Anon I'm so sorry..."
  105. >You can't help but smile at how cute she is and cup you hand on her chin to give her a kiss on the forehead.
  106. It's all behind me now. Tomorrow everything will be fine.
  107. >She blushes brightly.
  108. >These last few months have been amazing. It's been a while since things have actually been somewhat normal. Sure there was the occasional disaster, but it those were usually gone as soon as the came.
  109. >"Wait!"
  110. Again?
  111. >"I think I know now!"
  112. What?
  113. >Twilight gallops over to the shelf opposite you and levitates a deep blue tome down.
  114. >It reads: "Royal Traditions from Antiquity to the Modern Era."
  115. >Makes sense.
  116. >"Let's seeee... Royal Diplomacy, Royal Mannerisms.... Ah! Spirits!"
  117. >You should probably look this over with her.
  118. >"Hm. Spring, Summer Autumn and Winter. After the passing of Autumn and the resting of the earth, the festival of Winters Dawn will take place at the settlement mandated by both Princess Celestia and Princess Luna."
  119. Okay.
  120. >Twilight turns the page.
  121. >"What in all of Equestria?"
  122. >The next page is completely unreadable. All the words are smeared and distorted with some sort of reddish brown substance covering the page.
  123. >Twi looks absolutely crestfallen.
  124. >"How could this... I- I keep all the books in that library in perfect conditions and I just examined and re-shelved each one last week."
  125. Twi it's-
  126. >"What is this stuff!?"
  127. We'll order another book, this one isn't even that old, so we won't have to have is special made or anything like that.
  128. >"But our stipend! We've already spent a lot of money and the next won't arrive until next month."
  129. I can pay for it.
  130. >"But-"
  131. >You put your finger over her lips.
  132. Don't worry about it. Just let me take care of things.
  133.
  134. >You spend the next few hours helping Twilight go through every book in the library to see if any other books have been damaged.
  135. >Luckily for her and you, there were no signs of the brownish read smear.
  136. >"Have you seen the copy of December Skies? "
  137. I'm look at it right now, and no this one's fine.
  138. >"*Phew* that good, I wanted to read that one again."
  139. >A Brief History of the Northern Griffon Kingdoms, all good, Magics Blue and White, good, The Star of Dawn and that one's good too.
  140. That's the last one
  141. >"Hold on a second... Okay, the Brothers Black is in near mint condition."
  142. >Poor girl looks like she's about to collapse.
  143. >You look up at the clock and see that it's already midnight. You two need some sleep.
  144. About ready for bed?
  145. >Twilight looks up at you and rubs her eyes.
  146. >"Yeah... Carry me."
  147. >She leans up against you and wraps her hooves around your neck and yawns as you stand up.
  148. >"You're so warm..."
  149. What?
  150. >"You're really warm..."
  151. >Warm...
  152. >You really do feel warm...
  153. >It feels so nice... To not be so cold.
  154. >You feel like you're going to pass out as soon as you hit the bed; being so warm for once feel like being massaged by a burly Siberian woman named Slata.... Wait...
  155. >"Anon..."
  156. Yea.
  157. >"You don't have to buy that book for me... You're going to need the money for your trip north."
  158. Have I ever told you to not worry about it? Twilight you know I'd do anything for you, I'd walk to Foal Chi Minh city to buy you the finest silks in the world, I'd dig into a mountain to find you the mountains heart and mount it on a ring for you, I'd raise a castle of ice in the Buffalo plains for you. I want to take care of you, like you've taken care of me,
  159. >"Anon-"
  160. >You cut her off with a kiss. She's absolutely burning up from blushing so much.
  161. You know I love you.
  162. >"I love you too."
  163. >You both quickly fall asleep.
  164. >You just want to get a peaceful sleep before tomorrow.
  165. >And you dreams are the peaceful blankness that you have sought for so long.
  166. >'I hope that is a promise you can keep.'
  167. >Your eyes open and are met with the darkness of a moonlit night.
  168.
  169. >You never knew things could go from a hundred to zero in such a short amount of time.
  170. >You barley slept that night.
  171. >All night you just stared at the wall. It was all you could really do.
  172. >You knew tossing and turning, trying to sleep, would just wake Twilight up.
  173. >So that all you did, you just stared at the wall while the hours passed by and the wind battered the window.
  174. >At times, if you listened carefully enough, you could hear the tree groan and bend with the wind. Your mind would imagine the face of an old blue skinned man, blowing the north wind down, into the night.
  175. >There was a small part of you that fear you would become that blue skinned old man.
  176. >The thought of you what you could become, scared you a little. Eventually you decided to not wander in your own mind for a while.
  177. >You think you can actually see the shadow of the moon moving across the floor.
  178. >How long have you been like this?
  179. >Doe it really matter?
  180. >Time just keeps going faster and faster, eventually nights like this will seem like nothing.
  181. >Just imagine how Celly must feel, or even Luna. Especially Luna.
  182. >Christ fuck, let morning be here soon.
  183. >The moon has already moved several inches, and you can hear the wind begins to die down.
  184.
  185. ----------
  186.
  187.
  188. >Before today, you remember birds chirping in the morning. In the summer, spring and fall, they would rise with the sun and chirp happily. It was almost as if they were telling everyone how wonderful it is to be alive.
  189. >But not today. Outside the window you can’t hear a single bird sing.
  190. >Meanwhile Twilight is busy going through her sparse wardrobe.
  191. >”Ooooh. What do you think I should wear? I don’t really have anything for winter clothes other than this old saddle.”
  192. >Apparently Luna has something for you to wear before she raises the moon, but other than that you’re stuck with what you usually wear for the entire festival.
  193. Didn’t Rarity make you something?
  194. >”Mmm, no I don’t think she really made anything. This is the first time I’ve ever celebrated Winters Dawn.”
  195. What? Really?
  196. >”Mhm, I never heard about it until, well…”
  197. Til’ I came along?
  198. >She nods.
  199. >You chuckle slightly.
  200. I really don’t think this is something you need to get dressed up for.
  201. >”I want to look nice for today. Everp0ny has been getting ready for it since the running of the leves.”
  202. I think you look fine as you are.
  203. >”No. I’m going to look nice for the festival.”
  204. >You really don’t know what to say.
  205. >She’s got in her mind to dress up for the festival and there will be no convincing her otherwise.
  206. >Shit she’s got absolutely nothing to wear, think Anon, think…
  207. Errr… Rarity- We’ll get you something from Rarity!
  208. >”What? No, there’s no time.”
  209. Uhhh, yes there is, she’s probably already made something.
  210. >Twi squints slightly while you give her a shit eating grin.
  211. Please?
  212. >”mmm. Fine.
  213. >Words can’t describe how relived you feel. Know Twi she would have rummaged through her closet for another hour, before consulting some tome on fabric alteration.
  214. >Twilight still puts on a scarf anyways before the two of you head downstairs.
  215. >”Spike, we’re going out, meet us at the square around ten okay?”
  216. >The little dragon grumbles and pulls his blankets over his head.
  217. >”Just turn off the lights, please.”
  218. >Twi smiles and looks over at you.
  219. >You flick off the lights and follow her out the door.
  220. >You’re tempted to slam the door, just to annoy Spike, but you the smile on Twilights face tells you otherwise. So you settle for the next best thing.
  221. >”I wonder what dragon tastes like?”
  222. >Twilight scowls and levitates a small twig and starts to hit you with it.
  223. >”I thought you said it wasn’t an addiction!”
  224. I- OW, it’s- not-ow- I’m kidding.
  225. >Twilight finally stops after several more hits and give you a dirty look. You just smile and start off with her to the Boutique.
  226. >Already there are several stands being set up along with other shit you don’t know the names of, all with blue and white coverings.
  227. >There are even flags with a crescent moon raised in the town square.
  228. >So far you have yet to see AJ anywhere. She and Granny Smith were making a big deal about a new recipe for their apple cider. Apparently special for the festival.
  229. >Yet you still can’t shake what your feeling right now.
  230. This is weird…
  231. >”What? Why?”
  232. I don’t know, everp0ny doing all of this, this whole thing is about winter and it just feels weird.
  233. >”I know it’s tough, but we’ll help you through it.”
  234. >You smile slightly and wrap your arm around Twilights neck and give her a kiss.
  235. You are an absolute sweat heart.
  236. >”Stoop everp0ny can seee~.”
  237.
  238. >When you both arrived at the Boutique, Rarity was up busily putting makeup on and working on her mane.
  239. >Now she’s hovering over her vanity mirror, leaving you and Twilight to sit and watch.
  240. Soooo…
  241. >”What? What? What is it?”
  242. >Twi doesn’t really want to ask so you decide to just do it yourself.
  243. Think you could uh.
  244. >”What? Spit it out darling.”
  245. Er- Twilight kind of needs uh something to wear for the festival.
  246. >”What!”
  247. >You see Twilight jump slightly out of the corner of your eyes.
  248. >”I- But- It’s almost time for the festival!”
  249. It starts in ten minutes actually, unless Celly raises the sun a little early.
  250. >”Oh no, no, no no,no! This will not do! Oh Twilight dear why didn’t you say that you didn’t have anything to wear!?”
  251. >”Well I was going to ask you, but, umm, I was doing some research about the spirits…”
  252. >Rarity immediately takes Twilight over to the platform, thing, in the middle of the store.
  253. >”Oh, we will certainly be late, but it’s a good thing we have similar figures; I had a design I nwas working on for you, oh but I just haven’t had the time. No! I shall complete it! Here and now! Anonymous if you please, I need to as much solitude as possible.
  254. I- duh- Should I?
  255. >Twilight smiles and nods slightly.
  256. Well okay.
  257. >You can hear the whirring of Rarity’s sewing machine before you close the door behind you.
  258. >Well.
  259. >What now?
  260. >It took you no time at all to find AJ. You just hat to look for the stand covered in apples.
  261. >But it takes you way longer to convince her to leave the stand for a few minutes and let Big Mac pour pints for awhile.
  262. >”Ahm tellin ya, if ya just gave it a try, you’d be hooked.”
  263. I’m not drinking wood corn juice.
  264. >AJ gasps.
  265. >”What the buck do you mean “wood corn juice”!? “
  266. I mean that you distill corn and then let it sit in a barrel for several years and then you drink it. The little water is more refined and they’re constantly trying to figure out how to make it more pure.
  267. >”Pffft, that vodka of yours is jus something mares drink to get rutted on weekends.”
  268. Because I drink cocktails, yeah.
  269. >”Juss drink yer cider and loosen up.”
  270. I am loose.
  271. >You give AJ a wink and wiggle your eyebrows. She furrows her brow.
  272. >”Quite bein weird and buckin drink yer cider.”
  273. >Why did you let her convince you to drink this glorified water? Either way you manage you one shot it.
  274. >So far this entire thing has been insanely boring, mostly due to the fact that you’re still weirded out by the whole festival for you.
  275. >”Lord Anonymous!”
  276. >You turn around and are immediately grabbed by a pair of gray guards.
  277. >”Lord Anonymous you are late, you have kept our Lady waiting.”
  278. Wha-
  279. >”There’s no time!”
  280. >You instantly feel your pants fly off of you and quickly replaced with a par of wool trousers.
  281. Wait what? What!?
  282. >Next your coat comes off and is replaced by a wools coat with several layers of undershirts.
  283. >You’d be pissed about being dress raped, but you’re stopped by the feeling of being crushed to death.
  284. >”Our apologies lord Anonymous but your garments will need to settle”
  285. Gah! Fuck! What is this!
  286. >”Your garments are magically infused to remain with you.”
  287. >The pain finally stops.
  288. Ergh… Fine…
  289. >”If you please my lord.”
  290. Uh. What?
  291. >”Our Princess Luna is waiting my lord.”
  292. I don’t. I don’t know-
  293. >”That is perfectly alright my Lord, we would be happy to escort you.
  294. >The two guards lead down the street toward the square, all the way down erp0ny is giving you weird looks.
  295. >You don’t blame them. The guards put you into something that you want to call over the top. But you’ve seen worse in Canterlot.
  296. >”Princess Luna is waiting in her ten my Lord.”
  297. >The guards have led you to a huge tent with two additional guards at the front, who wave you in.
  298. >Inside is Princess Luna along with… Autumn.
  299. >You really should learn her name.
  300. >”Ah! Anonymous welcome. Come in, come in we don’t have much time.”
  301. >They’re both leaning over a large map of… Northern Equestria?
  302. >”There is much to discuss.”
