Master Emerald Malfunction

A/N: A brain child of mine mostly typed out on my New 3DS XL in the middle of the fucking night because my body only likes to sleep after being awake for at least 24 hours, and then, only for 12+ hours at a time. Long story short, my body hates me. Sleepless Nights Worked On (up to this point): 3.

(yes this is technically a DBZ-Sonic the Hedgehog crossover fanfiction. I did not put this in the crossover section because the only thing I am borrowing from DBZ is the concept of the Saiyan race and its transformations.)

Prologue: Echidna Fables

When an Echidna is young, their mothers always share with them the fables and legends they heard as a child themselves. One such fable involves a mighty warrior, a creature made of chaos itself, and their people's treasure: the Master Emerald. It goes something like this....

Long ago, when the Chaos Emeralds were still young, the planet was at peace. All creatures were friends with one another. However, an alien had taken a liking to their planet, and wished to live there. While most creatures turned him away, the Echidnas welcomed him with open arms. They befriended him, and he enjoyed their company. One day, while the alien was helping some Echidnas, a blob-like creature attacked, killing the alien's friends. The alien ran after the blob, wanting revenge, eventually cornering and fighting it in the temple grounds. After many hours, the alien was tired and realized that he cloud not defeat the blob. He called to his friends to seal the blob away in a crystal prison. He also called out for them to seal him away as well, to make sure the blob never escaped. With heavy hearts, the Echidnas sealed the alien and the blob in the biggest crystal they could find using the Chaos Emeralds' power. And so, the Master Emerald was created to seal away their foe and their friend.

While this story saddens most children, it is told so that they never worry about being attacked by the blob creature. Most mothers finish the story by talking about how when the need is great enough, the alien will appear once more to protect the Echidnas. No-one ever talks about what would happen if the alien warrior were set free, however...

Chapter 1: A Master-Emerald-napping?!

Knuckles laid on his back, staring at the clear blue sky. His legs were crossed as he lay on the Master Emerald. He felt almost in sync with the Master Emerald. Cool, calm, and collected. It was almost as if the Master Emerald were keeping Knuckles's emotions in check.
