A la Carte Valentine Summary

Simple summary of stories:

Madoka wants to make plenty for chocolate for all her friends, so she meet up with PMHQ to go to Mami's house to do it. Before that, she decides to go to Kamihama and buy ingredients with Kako.

They shared with each other the dreams where they become monsters destroying everything, and change the issue when Kako mentioned there is a shop that sell chocolate that shows the buyer's destiny. Out of curiosity, they visited the shop and is surprised when the old guy shop owner have chocolates appear from nowhere into their hands.

The owner revealed his true colors and it is indeed a rumor, and its familiars stole the chocolate from muggles, Kako and Kanako who were present, causing them to faint.

Madoka's chocolate tell her that only those with the chocolate granted by the keeper can escape, and she refuses to give the others up. After some one-sided convincing, Madoka broke her huge chocolate and share it with everyone else, allowing them all to escape. Note that this is consider bad as it is sharing her destiny with others. Everyone lose their memory of the shop though. On the actual day, everyone but Homura showed up, but Madoka manages to invite her out on another time to give her the chocolate, end of story for now with the ominous Madoka Magica latin logo.

Sayaka is simple. She asked for Kyouko's help to create another set of chocolate other than the PMHQ gathering for Kyosuke under the guise of making a surprise for everyone. Kyouko agreed to help and they managed to create a good one. On the actual day, Sayaka is having cold feet on giving it to Kyosuke, and Kyouko who already see through her first threatened to eat the thing up since Sayaka claims that she wants to look at the chocolate for a little longer, and give the sound advice of act and don't just look since someone else might take the prize away.

Aimi wants to give chocolate to her crush who is a really nice guy, but since she failed last year, she decide to get help from Kokoro and Masara. They seem pretty familiar with each other since the two are used to Aimi getting caught in her daydreaming.

Aimi gave pretty wacky plans which are discouraged by the two, and eventually act on Masara's plan: Make chocolate for everyone and this will also lead to her giving it to the guy as well and prevent Aimi from getting cold feet.

The plan works, but due to Masara being lacking in the romance department, the giving has no romantic notions at all, and Aimi gave the wrong one (she made one with heart) to another person (girl), so at least she manages to achieve her goal.

Kokoro felt sorry for Aimi since everything went well, and Masara is just puzzled since Aimi did manage to give the thing out like planned. Pretty nice and fun stuff.

She wants to give chocolate and confess to the guy at the same time and shared her intentions with Akira, Meiyui and Emiri who made up the Troubleshooting corner of Emiri's. On the actual day, she heard from the guy and his buddy that her crush is interested in a sexy beauty upperclasswoman which broke her courage and gave up on the confession.

She meet up with the trio in tears and dump the chocolate to Emily and ran away crying despite the trio's efforts in counseling her. On the way, she detected a witch and transformed to deal with her accordingly while complaining about her luck.

Surprisingly, the guy she is interested in is also caught in the barrier, so she knocked him out since he is starting to recognize her.

She defeated the witch easily, but it decides to Allah Akbar her.

Fortunately, she was saved by Emily, Akira and Meiyui. The trio tried convincing Hinano to go on with her plan which she refuses at first. That is until they point out she is the second eldest Puella Magi and thus fit the reliable elder sister role, and Emily got into tears as she say how the brave, bold and reliable Hinano is her respected elder, and hiding and giving up is not like her. Hinano realized she has nothing to give, but Emiri threw the chocolate back at her (memoria CE) as Meiyui and Akira revealed that Emiri intended to return it back anyway.

Hinano go through with the act, giving the chocolate and confessing, but stopped the guy from giving his answer and tell him to just forget everything. The guy refuses and says he will treasure the chocolate and eat it with gratitude.

The trio asks Hinano why she stopped the guy since it is obvious he will say yes. She replied that it is very hard to say no when he just woke up from a freak event and stared down by three friends of the person confessing. In the end, she took Emiri's advice and scream out her love for the guy while in tears and Emiri responded by saying she will be cheering on her until she succeed.

Cheerleader and Homura are having tea talking about plans for Valentine. Cheerleader informs Homura that girls give chocolate as a sign of friendship to each other as well, getting Homura excited since she wants to give it to Madoka and Cheerleader since they are her friends. Cheerleader cheers her on.

The next day, Homura visited a shop near the hospital she is in and was dismayed that it has moved. She detected a witch in the hospital and proceed to deal with it, finding a black feather(BF) fighting it already.

After defeating it together, BF thanked Homura for giving her the GS since she is weak, and refuses to give her name due to the rules of Magius who believed their God will eventually come to give them equal happiness.

They discover they are alike, having stayed in the same hospital and lacking confidence, and eventually agree that they will go shop for chocolate together. They did, and encourage each other to give it to their friends, finding each other a kindling soul.

Homura was not able to give the chocolate to Madoka on the actual day, and decide to do it when they head to Mami's place for the party and give it to everyone at the same time. Kamihama gang's will have to wait.


While waiting for Madoka after school to head to Mami's place together, Homura received a call from the BF crying for help at the hospital. Homura rushed there without a second thought.

What she find is a badly wounded BF with her SG closed to being fully tainted. She moans on how some people have the worst timing (implying she is bullied in school) and how she is worthless despite becoming a Puella Magi and joining Magius. She confessed that she was at the hospital to rescue a nurse who was very good to her when she was hospitalized and even she failed at that.

She berates herself form getting in over her own head and being useless, while crying out that she loves the world, everyone in it and Homura as well and begged her to give her something to show that she is not worthless and have nothing to hold dear.

Homura is in tears and tries convincing her to stay calm and tells her that she has chosen a unique chocolate for her as a sign of friendship and should not say she is worthless.

While thankful, BF apologizes to Homura that it is too late and that she should wish to become a hero like those in stories instead and turned into a witch. Homura had to euthanize BF.

At the park waiting for Madoka (followed from her story), Homura berates herself for being useless and in over her own head, believing that she can help people like Madoka. Her SG is purified by Madoka who has arrived and exchanged chocolate. Madoka holds Homura's hands and keeps talking about how nice her chocolate is and little nothing. Perhaps she knows Homura is down and is trying to cheer her up without asking about the issue.

Momoko's team agrees on giving each other friend chocolate on Valentine's day. Rena notices that Momoko seems a bit down, but the latter claims that she has recovered from her failure to confess to the guy she likes. Secretly though, she admits that she has not fully recovered yet.

The next day, she hears that a rumor where a beast will appear on Valentine's Day when couples give each other chocolate or confess, and will twist their feelings into hating each other. Momoko gathered Rena and Kaede to investigate, and she realizes the culprit is Rena who transformed into one of the mob girls to spread the rumor.

Rena confessed her crimes, but claimed that she didn't expect it to spread out of hand. She did to because she realize Momoko has not fully recovered from heartbreak and wanted to create a fake case so she can deter her from those thoughts. She hates to see Momoko still hurting. Momoko thanks her, but decides to create another rumor to remedy the damage done.

The rumor is just an anti-monster who will aid couples on Valentine's Day. It didn't spread as well, but Momoko think it is enough. She is correct since couples gave chocolate and confessed per norm as the trio watches. Momoko muses that it takes huge courage for girls to confess, so those decided will not be deter by mere rumors. Sadly, the fiasco led to the trio prepared nothing for each other. Rena suggest that they should meet at the local supermarket that night.

Rena bought almost all the chocolate there with the money she saved for idol concert since she think it is her fault that so many were not sold. Momoko laughed and shared the costs since she believe she also have responsibility as Rena did the deed because of her. The trio then give each other chocolate from those they bought, and on the way back they see the guy Momoko is in love with enjoying his time with his GF.

Momoko led the other two away to not disturb the pair, claimed she is relived that they are enjoying Valentine's Day, and claimed that it is thanks to Rena that she feel this way and not walloping in self-pity. The three then open the chocolates together and eat them, and Momoko secretly thanked Kaede and Rena for giving her a happy Valentine's Day.

Ren wants to give chocolate to her friends on Valentine's Day to show her gratitude. The list includes Rika, Emeiri, Hinano, Kanoko, Akira, Konomi and Ameria. She laments that she doesn't know what they like and gets confused by the huge range of selection.

She is interrupted by a witch, and Aimi is already fighting it already. Together, they beat the witch, and Aimi manages to convince the lost Ren to shop together to see what chocolate and ingredients are suitable.

After window shopping for a while, Ren admits that she has no idea what to give since she does not know her friends' preference, but Aimi ask her if Ren think her friends will refuse her gift. After thinking back where Rika gave her handmade present on her birthday, Ren decides to try to make chocolate for all her friends. She also takes Aimi's advice and decides to decorate the chocolate with flowers. Since she is too shy to even speak, she intend to let her feelings be known via the language of the flowers on the chocolate.

On the actual day, Ren got cold feet since she thinks the chocolates sold in shops look way better and nobody would want her handmade stuff. Rika appears and claimed they are all worried since Ren did not show up at Emeri's shop. Rika gave her chocolate to Ren first and notices her bag. After some gentle prodding, Ren mustered her courage and gave her chocolate to Rika who loved it since it is carefully made and decorated with a flower.

The flower is chosen for Rika is the Periwinkle, as in reminiscing fond memories shared. She thanked Rika for her friendship, and hopes they can create more fond memories together. With Rika leading, they head to Emiri's place so that Ren can give out the rest of the chocolate which are tailor-made for each of her friends.

Tsukasa's story (full translation available via main pastebin)

The twins made an appointment to exchange chocolates on V. day, but they can only meet at 18:00~18:30 since the dark one[Tsukuyo] is very busy with lessons.

Tsukasa made preparations to ensure she can be on time, being 30+ mint chocolate for her class, asking her friend to deliver it for her, a backup plan just in case Take, one of her father's disciple is unable to stall him from returning early so she can cook for them quick and go meet her sister.

Take failed as expected, but Tsukasa manages to finish cooking despite her dad and students return back early. Take mistook Tsukasa being secretive is because she is making preparations for V.day for them. Tsukasa is annoyed with this, but her emergency preparation works, being preparing a chocolate fountain and fruits for them to enjoy. She manages to bolt when everyone is distracted.

She wasn't able to make it on time since she was caught in a witch's field, but everything works out since her sis is also caught in it. They beat the witch together and shared the GS. Her sis proceed to give her the chocolate, and it is then Tsukasa realized she had none: her gift was thrown into the fountain to give the men in the household an example on how to use the fountain. Luckily, the chocolate her sis made is a pair of crescent moon, and thus they shared the chocolate happily, though her sister has to go since it is close to 18:30 already.

Back home, Take saw the honmei chocolate Tsukasa made in the fridge.. It seems she had forgotten to take it out after all, and the guy finally realizes that Tsukasa's whole fiasco was to go on a date, and the story ends.

Sana used to hate V.Day since her mom can openly ignore her since it is a day where women give chocolate to the men the treasured. While washing the dishes, Sana watched how her mom give handmade chocolate to her stepbrothers and stepfather after a meal as they enjoy some quality family time.

Sana revealed that she tried giving chocolate to her stepbrothers for the first two years when her mom married her stepdad, but she found the chocolate on the garbage bin near her house as she head to school the next day and thus give up.

Back to present, Iroha and Sana are shopping for groceries for their hotpot dinner, and she thank Iroha for saving her and the Nanami family for accepting her. Thus, she decide to show her gratitude by buying chocolate for them.

The next day, she is a little worried that she is the only one excited for the day and would dampen the atmosphere if only she had prepared for it. But she convinces herself the kind people of the house will not to that and muster her courage to buy the chocolate. Unfortunately her wish turned her invisible to muggles and thus cannot buy on her own. After considering about giving up, Sana decides to go to a further super with auto-selling machine to buy the chocolate, and decides to skip school since nobody will known as it will be too late to go there after school.

On the actual day, Sana arrived at the place and buy the chocolate, even treating herself the Gorogoro Cat chocolate. On the way back, she sees a guy kissed by a witch and detect a faint presence of the barrier, and decides to follow the guy since the place is too far and the gang will not arrive in time.

The guy went up the building and is about to jump off, and Sana cannot convince him to not do so since 1. she is invisible and 2. witch victims are caught up with negative thoughts. Sana mustered up the courage to fight when she heard the guy's reason for vulnerability is because the girl he likes did not give him anything.


Sana soloed and defeated the witch snapping the guy out. As he cannot see her, he begin talking to himself, saying how despite being the closest to the girl, he got nothing from her. Sana sees this girl is the place where the guy's heart is. She linked it to how she see the Nanami family is also where she has a sense of belonging, and apologize to the guy for dismissing his reason for suicide as minor even though he cannot hear her.

Due to shared experienced, Sana decide to give the guy her Gorogoro neko chocolate and put it in his bag. Though he cannot see her, he heard his bag being opened and saw the chocolate. Although laughing at how it is cartoonish, he thinks that whoever give this to him should be close, and no matter who is responsible, he is still happy that someone cares. Sana wish the guy best of luck in finding a place where his heart can call home and left.

On the way back, Sana tell AI that she is glad Iroha broke her out of the barrier and for the family to accept her since it give her a chance to realize that she can do good and help others even if she is invisible to muggles. She becomes a little more positive and confident after this little event and is looking forward to give her chocolates away to Iroha, Yachiyo, Felicia and Tsuruno.

Iroha story summary:

As she is shopping for groceries for dinner, Iroha notices a leaflet on chocolate sale for V.Day and remembered how she used to prepare a chocolate cake for her sister every year with her mom. This year, she cannot do so, and is reserving the opportunity to make the cake for her and Nanami family. In return, she decides to buy unique chocolate for each and every member of the team.

The next day, Iroha had to leave school late since it is her turn to clean it, and she rushes to the super. On the way, she detected a witch and fought it. Although she beat it, it took too much time since it moves very quickly and it is already night and snowing by then. Due to snow, the super is only 3 minutes away from closing, but Iroha is dismayed that there are only few selections left. The keeper inform her that a group of girls has just bought everything and apologizes (link to Momoko story).

Returning home dejected, Iroha is informed that Tsuruno will be arriving soon with dinner. When she does, she brings in a trolley containing the V.day special menu from her family restaurant. As they dig in, they realize that the menu is just regular Chinese dishes with naming that suits the day, but they still enjoy the meal anyway.

Tsuruno happily exclaim that her restaurant gives 3 months time for customers to pay up, which Felicia advises against. Yachiyo says she will pay as usual.

Then comes the exchange time. Felicia bought a bundle which has 10 milk chocolate and share it with everyone. Sana's is those mentioned from her story and Tsuruno's is playing upon words, in which the dinner is her V.day present. Yachiyo's is a box set which contains different type of chocolate in which the girls like, milk for Felicia, Hazelnut for Tsuruno, Milk tea for Sana and pure white for Iroha. They all love it, and Yachiyo informs them that they can eat the rest to their liking since the box will be placed in the fridge.

Then comes Iroha's turn. She prepared a huge Kinder Bueno chocolate egg for Felicia which comes with a figure, a huge trophy shaped chocolate for Tsuruno and the Gorogoro Cat chocolate for Sana (the same one Sana gave to the suicide guy in her story). However, all she has for Yachiyo is a simple standard rectangular chocolate since there is nothing left in the supermarket by then and apologizes.

Yachiyo gently laughs it off and says that thoughts are the most important. After getting Iroha's permission, Yachiyo melts the chocolate and adds in some milk to make hot chocolate and shared it with the whole family, pouring the contents into their own mug. It warms not only their body (cold since it's snowing outside) but also their hearts. Iroha tells Yachiyo that she will return something of equal value on White's Day, and the latter replies that she will look forward to it.

The conclusion for the 10 day event is that different people have different experiences on V.Day, but no matter what it is, it will become a treasured memory that will be special for each of them.

Natsuki's Story (Valentine Yell):

Natsuki finishes giving chocolates to the people on her baseball team, and is relieved that everyone thought they were delicious. She realizes that everyone is probably going to start exchanging chocolates around now and wonders if they can do it. She decides that she wants to cheer for everyone on this special day. It's implied that she goes up to a high point in Kamihama, and screams out a cheer.
